With all this Faulk retirement and injury talk floating around suddenly, the Rams look like geniuses for making the move to get Steven Jackson back in April. Now more than ever, I'm pumped that this franchise traded up to get their back of the future instead of thinking they could grab one from the later rounds.

Re: You have to admit...
No, it does not make them look like geniuses. Most of us thought it was a good pick, yet few of us had any in-depth concerns about Faulk's knee. It would make sense that the FO knew more about the knee than was public. Hence perhaps that is why they moved up to get Jackson. That isn't genius, that is common sense. After seeing some of the FO's bozo pics during the last couple years, I'll settle for common sense.
And yes, if Faulk is shot, then like you, I am very glad the FO took Jackson. If Faulk still gives it a go, I am still glad they picked Jackson, cause we all know Faulk is winding down.

Re: You have to admit...
Speaking of genius....Is Martz a genius or a dolt for telling the football world that Faulk's knee had been rejuvinated after his second surgery in less than a year? Was there a strategy with this claim towards the draft? Martz saying that Faulk's knee was ok and leading everyone to believe they were not interested in a RB. Highly doubtful since it was no secret that the Rams were interested in Clarett. So, to me, it looks like another case of Martz opening his fat mouth and acting like a dolt when there is no need. I guess he just can't help himself when it comes to speaking out about his star offensive players. Hmmmmmmmmm? What was it that he said about Kurt Warner leading into last season? Please, just shut your trap, Mike!!!!!!!

Re: You have to admit...
Ok, this is where I take up for Martz. The surgery was before the draft right? What in the wide world of sports is Martz supposed to say? Knowing that Parcells takes as many gambles on draft day as anyone. Was he supposed to tip his hand and say; "Faulk is shot. His knee is spaghetti. We have to draft a RB." Don't think so. Tell the world everything is fine then make your change later and let your actions speak on the football field.
I don't give a rip if he tells me everyone is from Saturn. As long as he wins on Sunday, is fine with me.

Re: You have to admit...
I don't think Martz was "acting like a dolt" at all. I think he wants Marshall to be okay, was told that the medical reports were encouraging, and commented. The fact that he might be wrong does not make him a dolt.
You know, a few months back I was one of the few people recommending and predicting that the Rams take a RB in the first round (I had them taking Chris Perry, as I never expected Jackson to drop as he did). Many people, most notably Barry Waller, told me that I was nuts.
Its a good thing I'm not the type to say I told you so. :king:

He gets asked questions and he answers them. We will agree to disagree on this one. To me, don't give away company secrets. To you, tell all and let ethical matters handle the situation.
Remember, if he dosen't talk to the media he get's fined. So why give them anything to harm the Rams?

Re: You have to admit...
I am with tx on this, why in the world should a head coach tell every little thing that might be worrying them???
As a manager, I sure as heck would not tell my competitors every possible flaw out company had, so why should he?

Why didn't he just say that Faulk underwent knee surgery, the surgery was a success, and Faulk would be rehabing as soon as the doctors release him to do so. As far as details, all he would have to say is that he is not an orthropedic surgeon and the surgery was a success being as Faulk didn't die on the operating table. (ok the last part is a bit over the top).Curly ~ Horns

Originally posted by FerterNo, I didn't say that. I didn't say tell all, I said, say nothing, but if he must say something to avoid fines, then say as little as possible. He is the one who told all and leaked company secrects when he said that the surgery included an experimental procedure designed to stimulate cartilage growth, by pricking the bone. He leaked the details and at the same time claimed the knee was rejuvenated.
