MACOMB, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears arrived in Macomb on Thursday. And so did potential help for the Rams' offensive line.
Guard-center Chris Dishman, the former Arizona Cardinal, arrived in Macomb for a physical. Barring any unexpected medical finding, Dishman will be added to the roster, providing extra depth for the interior of the Rams' offensive line.
Dishman, 30, was a fourth-round draft pick by the Big Red in 1997 out of the University of Nebraska. He appeared in 92 games in seven seasons for Arizona, including 54 starts. A wide body at 6-3, 339, Dishman is considered a better run blocker than a pass blocker, and is considered a better guard than a center. He entered this offseason as an unrestricted free agent.
Center Dave Wohlabaugh's hip injury has left the Rams shorthanded inside. Last year's starting left guard, Andy McCollum, has shifted over to the starting center spot. In addition, guard candidate Scott Tercero has been moved out to tackle because of Kyle Turley's back problems and Orlando Pace's absence from camp in another contract impasse.
The Bears, now coached by former Rams defensive coordinator Lovie Smith, pulled up at Thompson Hall shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday. They will share the dormitory building with the Rams for the next 2½ days.
The teams are scheduled to practice against each other Thursday afternoon; Friday morning and afternoon; and then scrimmage Saturday morning at Western Illinois University.
Chicago's roster includes LB Joe Odom (Bethalto High), as well as three former University of Missouri players: WR Justin Gage, OT Rob Droege (Lindbergh High), and C A.J. Ricker.
