    Bits and pieces:
After Saturday morning's scrimmage with the Chicago Bears, the Rams had the rest of the day and most of Sunday off. They returned Sunday evening for meetings.
QB Chris Chandler and DE Sean Moran, offseason free-agent pickups, are in their second stints with the Rams. Chandler played for the Los Angeles Rams in 1994 and Moran was with the team in 2000 and 2001.

    Overheard:
"He looks like the Marshall of old out here, but we'll see. We're really cautious with him. He feels so good, and when he's like that we try not to put a damper on it. But we also just want him to be cautious and take this thing in stride." - Coach Mike Martz, on frisky RB Marshall Faulk.
"I felt comfortable hanging the whistle over my neck and the stopwatch. That was pretty fun, telling kids what to do." - C-G Chris Dishman, on his duties as a high school coach in Lincoln, Neb., before Martz persuaded him to "unretire" and report to Rams camp.

    Bits and pieces:

Among healthy Rams who didn't dress for Saturday's scrimmage with the Bears were S Aeneas Williams, WR Torry Holt, RB Marshall Faulk, WR Isaac Bruce and RB Lamar Gordon.

The biggest cheer of the day came when former Western Illinois University QB Russ Michna, a Rams rookie, took the field for a series.

Roger Hacker, the son of former Cardinals coach Rich Hacker, is a member of the Bears' PR staff.

    Overheard:

"They're always contenders for tops in the league, and they're always contenders for the Super Bowl. So that makes it that much sweeter."
    - Veteran DT Bernard Holsey, on being acquired by the Rams in the offseason.

"He's an innovator. I could talk on and on about Mike Martz. He's one of the better guys you will meet and, of course, one of the better coaches in the league."
    - Bears coach Lovie Smith, on his former boss.

    Bits and pieces:

RB Lamar Gordon skipped Thursday's workout. He's had chronic ankle problems and has been gimpy at times during camp.

Damione Lewis and Ryan Pickett have been solid in the middle of the defensive line.

    Absent: OT Orlando Pace (contract).

Today's schedule: One practice (full pads) is scheduled, beginning at 8:10 a.m. Time is subject to change. For up-to-date practice information, call toll-free 1-866-726-7226. Practices are free and open to the public.

    Bits and pieces:
Defensive tackle Ryan Pickett missed Sunday afternoon's practice because of illness.

Rookie S Jason Shivers made a leaping interception of a Marc Bulger pass intended for Kevin Curtis in seven-on-seven drills. S Justin Lucas also picked off a Chris Chandler toss intended for Mike Furrey.

Curtis turned in the catch of the day, a diving grab in the back of the end zone that ended with him skidding into the plastic fencing that encircles the fields.

Overheard: "The days are the days, whether they're the dog days, good days, good days, dog days, dog days, dog days, good days, good days - whatever you want to call it. It's still training camp." - WR Torry Holt, when asked whether the "dog days"
of camp had set in yet.

"I'll be happy to leave Macomb. It's boring out here." - CB Jerametrius Butler.
