  • Lions cut Page

Soloman Page was cut by the Lions today. He is a 5 year starter for the Cowboys and Chargers. The Lions tried to move him inside and he was not quick enough, as a tackle he is showed solid years. Might be an option for us.

I know he only played in 8 games, last year, was he hurt or what? Hm, he played well in Dallas, might be worth a look. Wander why the Lions didn't leave him outside?

Nick, do you have any insight on this West Virginia guy?

The Lions are really deep at tackle. It is the inside blockers that have killed them for a couple of years. I believe the Chargers also signed him for gaurd and he ended up getting hurt.

Thanks, Wraith, good to know. He might be worth a look.

Interestingly enough, Page played at WVU during the same span as Bulger, and was part of the '98 team that helped Bulger have one of the best performances by a college football QB that season. I think Page has all the talent in the world. He was very good in pass protection and had quick feet and agility. Pretty explosive off the line. He just doesn't have the heart. He reminds me of Amos Zereque in that he'll do enough to get the job done, but nothing more. He's a fifteen-pieces-of-flare kind of guy, if you've seen Office Space. I think he could do some damage as a right tackle for an offensive line, but he has had some health concerns and you'd have to have him in the right mindset.

If I knew, I'd be working for the NFL because I'm sure the Cowboys and Chargers would have liked to know. He's got motivation problems and injury problems. If that's something the Rams want to put up with, sign him. Personally, I'd rather spend the reps with younger guys that have more upside hoping to find a diamond in the rough. I won't question Page's skill, but I don't think he's what this line needs right now.
