Speculation has it, he will be announcing Friday (during the game I am sure) signing the tender and reporting Monday.

None of this is a surprise. What would be a surprise, and a pleasant one at that, is if after signing the tender Pace negotiates and signs a long-term deal so that we don't have to go through this again next year.

Actually, I expect him to sign long-term this year. He has to see that the Rams will just keep on franchising him, therefore no signing bonus, and more importantly, less money to buy donuts. Unless he is an absolute moron, he signs long-term now and cashs in.

Actually, I expect him to sign long-term this year. He has to see that the Rams will just keep on franchising him, therefore no signing bonus, and more importantly, less money to buy donuts. Unless he is an absolute moron, he signs long-term now and cashs in.

His franchise tender money is guaranteed though once he signs it. While he'd probably enjoy the idea of making $16-20 million in bonus money up front, he made $5 million last year and $7 million this year when he signs, and again, it's guaranteed. So it's not like he's at a huge disadvantage, but the difference between the bonus and tender money is significant. I don't know if it's significant enough to warrant signing long-term, though.

Right, I'm definitely not disputing that. I'm just not sure if that extra $11-15 million is enough incentive to a guy who made $12+ million the last two seasons in guaranteed money, and is set to make $8.5 next season if franchised again.

Are you sure? I could have sworn that the tender money paid is on a week by week basis. Meaning that if he gets injured or cut (not likely to happen), then the team (RAMS in this case) are not obligated to continue paying him. I seem to remeber a "Tagged" player getting injured a few years ago, and the team gained cap room from the player being released.

The real disappointment is that he's just signing the tender and this time next year we will be going through the same garbage.
