With the horrible commentary and the even worse camera view, I'd think this is a high school game. I can't even see what's going on. What gives?

Re: Horrible Broadcast
it was beyond pathetic commentating.
i heard them say jamie duncan was in on a tackle.
then the commentator wondered why mike furrey didn't step out of bounds on a kick off return.
those are just a couple of the major blunders by the commentators.

Re: Horrible Broadcast
I agree that the broadcast angles and the commentary was a debacle. They kept saying Gordon on another carry when it was harris. I too caught the comment on the tackle by jamie duncan, which you had to know was a morons comment since even when duncan was on the team he never tackled anything that was physically moving.
Actually, it was too different sets of announcers. the first half was the raiders feed, and they kept cutting away from the offense to interview raiders. The second half was the rams guys, and thats where the awful camera work took over.

Re: Horrible Broadcast
its ok dont feel bad here in los angeles we actually had the rams game on two channels channel 5 (im in the broadcast industry and im shure they dont know what they were doing, the phaseing out of the video meant they had some defective items they didnt bother to replace...probably some archaic junk they found in there basement-thank god they dont do it for the real season) and on channel 9 also known as faider central...i swithced to channel nine because it had a much better video feed and during the huge sack all they were doing was talking to one raider after another and only showed the dam thing on replay...every time the readiers had the ball they couldnt take the picture off the field but once the rams took over they started doing interviews of raiders like it was a talk show....
all in all the rams played a decent game...let just hopw the defence starts to gell a bit more...and we would be fine.. at least the channel 5 commentary said we would finish around 11-5 not the usually dour 8-8 or 9-7 routine.

Re: Horrible Broadcast
I saw the game on KTLA and one of the announcers was Vince Ferragamo, don't know the other guy. The broadcast was pretty bad all around (announcing and cameras). They've been broadcasting Rams pre-season games for a while now. I guess something is better than nothing.

Does the official "can the Cable Guy" watch start today?
...can't say the Raiders aren't entertaining though. What will Al do next?
I saw something today that I've never seen before. I was sitting in a sports bar in Huntington Beach this morning, which shows every game on the 30-something TV's around the room. The Raider game was so bad they took it off the screen in the fourth quarter and put up the Dolphin/Texan game. ...even though the Dolphin game was already on another screen just a few feet away! ...and nobody complained! The Raider fans (those that remained) didn't even care!
With the Rams winning, it didn't get any better then it did this morning. Life is good.-

by HornItYes folks it’s true. The thing you never, ever, thought could possibly happen, happened.
Rams castoff Chris Johnson, the guy who stepped out of bounds on the Rams own 1 yard line on a kickoff return the first time he ever touched the ball as a Ram, made the Rams pay dearly Saturday night for their decision to set him adrift in the NFL sea of uncertainty. Well, he hooked on with the Raiders and haunted the Rams much of the night, be it with his excellent coverage or his TD saving big plays such as knocking the ball out of Fitzharvard’s hands as he was driving for the goal line and through the back of the end zone.
This was just sort of the way the entire night went. Nothing much went right. What could go wrong did go wrong. Even what we thought couldn’t go wrong, such as Johnson getting his revenge, went wrong.
Funny thing though is, after digesting my first viewing of the game and then watching it again on NFLN this afternoon, maybe not as much actually went wrong as I thought it did initially, and as a lot of people thought it did initially. At least, not as many fundamentally bad things came out of the game as it first appeared.
This would seem to give credence to the age old adage, never do game analysis after only one emotionally invested viewing of the game. You may just see things much differently after you’ve had a chance to get over the original disappointment of the results not being exactly what you were hoping for. That’s what happened to me this time anyway.
Watching it all again, really only two things stuck out in my mind as being responsible for how bad things appeared on first viewing last night. Those two things were penalties and Bulger, in that order.
The key play in every Raiders scoring drive was some kind of key penalty, and not just any old penalty, but big, huge, game changing penalties. 10 penalties for 157 yards, and the worst thing about that is, several of them truly were completely bogus calls. But even if they weren’t, it’s better news than the initial news that they simply got their butts whooped. That actually didn’t happen.
Additionally, contrary to the popular narrative thus far, they were not conservative on offense and they did actually show quite a bit of their passing game, and they were making a concerted effort to go vertical and get the ball downfield. The thing is, they (mostly Bulger in this case) just didn’t execute.
Think of 44 passes and 17 rushes, averaged 13 yards per completion and does that sound conservative to you? Does that sound like they didn’t open up at least a little? The problem on offense last night was not a lack of imagination, it was a lack of execution.
So, let’s take a look at it.

Initially I thought the O-line played fairly poorly, but on second...-

Wow, is that team bad, or what? I know it's early, and after only one game it's hard to declare the season over for them, but....wow. That team is BAD.
Did Art Shell even know there was a game going on?
With the Chargers playing about a mile off the receivers, wouldn't it make sense to throw some short passes?
Is there anyone on the Raiders O line that can block?
Did you hear about Jerry Porter on the sidelines laughing and fist pumping when Brooks got sacked for about the 100th time? Talk about a disfunctional group...
Where did they dig up that coaching staff? O coordinator was running a Bed and Breakfast until ol' AL called? What a joke. I loved every second of it, and I'm sure the drama will only get better as the season moves on. Can't wait. One bright spot for them though. They have a heck of a punter!-

by ZigZagRamI was watching Total Access on the NFL Network with Rich Eisen. Ray Buchanan is a guest for the remainder of this week and in an interview at the end of the show Eisen was asking about where he'd be playing this year. Ray said he'd like to resign with the Raiders but also has Atlanta, Arizona, and St. Louis on his radar.
This guy was a playmaker as a CB for the Falcons, but age has started to catch up to him. I've heard conflicting reports about his performance at FS last year for the Raiders, some calling him 'no-play' Ray, others saying he's still a valuable playmaker in the secondary.
He had 91 tackles and an INT at FS for the Raiders last season but it's hard to judge DB's by stats alone. Anybody have any thoughts on this?-

by NickRams Recap: More good than bad in last-minute loss
BY JEFF GORDON

Orlando who?
For a night, anyway, the Rams excelled with their various offensive line
combinations at Oakland on Thursday night. They didn't miss the unsigned
Orlando Pace, the hobbled Chris Dishman, the disabled Kyle Turley or the
retired Dave Wohlabaugh.
The Rams played a strong, sound, well-rounded offensive game. They got their
key starters in and out of their preseason finale without incident.
They didn't quite get the victory – the Raiders rallied for a 28-24 victory in
the final minute of the exhibition – but this final exhibition game produced
more good than bad.
The makeshift offensive line created consistent running room for Marshall
Faulk, Lamar Gordon, rookie Steven Jackson and Arlen Harris. This impressive
foursome took turns pounding the Raiders defense.
Also, quarterbacks Marc Bulger, Chris Chandler and Jeff Smoker all got ample
time to operate the passing game. The Rams consistently moved the ball
regardless of who was running the show.
On the down side, the defense missed too many tackles and allowed Oakland a
couple of late touchdown drives. That unit will have plenty to work on before
the Rams, 1-3 in the preseason, face Arizona in their season opener Sept. 12 at
The Ed.
THE GOOD
* There's another combination that works! Bulger fired a strike to tight end
Cam Cleeland, who bounced off three tacklers on a terrific 46-yard gain. The
Rams are threatening to make better use of their tight ends in the passing game
this season.
That would be a good thing.
* Just like in the old days, Bulger threw a quick outlet pass to running back
Faulk in the red zone. That 7-yard passing play was the Rams' first touchdown
in a first quarter during this preseason.
Bulger earned a perfect quarterback rating for his brief three-pass outing.
* Rookie linebacker Brandon Chillar blew in on a blitz, crushed Raiders
quarterback Kerry Collins and jarred the football loose. He got the sack, but
not the fumble recovery. Still, this is the stuff Tommy Polley used to do.
* It was good to see receiver Kevin Curtis sort-of-recovered from his case of
shin splints. He accelerated on a slant route to nab the first pass Chandler
threw in the game.
* Then he ran a deep curl-in route to catch still another pass from Chandler.
Curtis showed some heart playing through that injury.
* It was great to see running back Gordon recovered from his ankle surgery. He...-
