  • WEEK ONE POWER RANKINGS by Jake

The first week of the NFL season has come and gone, leaving all teams either undefeated or winless and setting up a perfect time for naysayers and pollyannas to come out of the woodwork and harp on their team. So, break out your doom-and-gloom crystal ball or rose-colored glasses, cuz it's time to get off the fence.

Every week I'll be updating my own ClanRam NFL Power Rankings, and I encourage you to do so as well. Here are my Rankings after Week One:

    1. Patriots (1-0)- Tom Brady is no longer overrated in my mind, after seeing how he played against the Colts, and Corey Dillon can still run. Their only weakness is the rushing defense. You can tell they already miss Ted Washington.
    2. Eagles (1-0)- Everyone's talking about McNabb to T.O. in the red zone, but Brian Westbrook impressed me with a 17-carry, 119-yard game.
    3. Vikings (1-0)- Defense is a concern (Vinny Testaverde? Come on.), but Daunte Culpepper proved he's finally coming around as a consistent NFL quarterback after throwing for five touchdowns and - the biggest stat to me - zero interceptions.
    4. Titans (1-0)- Chris Brown will make fans in Tennesee forget about Eddie-three-yards-George.
    5. Seahawks (1-0)- They won on the road and stopped the run - two things they couldn't do last season. The loss of Shaun Alexander for a couple weeks might hinder their success early in the season.
    6. Packers (1-0)- They showed why they're a contender every year, as Ahman Green ate the Panthers alive on Monday Night.
    7. Broncos (1-0)- Looks like another 1000-yard rusher is in the works for Mike Shanahan, who takes his division rivalry games very seriously.
    8. Colts (0-1)- Peyton Manning and Edgerrin James, two guys Tony Dungy will have to rely on heavily this season, made two huge mistakes to lose the game.
    9. Jets (1-0)- The return of Chad Pennington was overshadowed by the performance of Curtis Martin; LaMont Jordan might just have to wait another year.
    10. Chiefs (0-1)- Priest Holmes will have to carry this team, as the receiving corps is depleted (Dante Hall started at WR?) and the defense showed no improvement under Gunther Cunningham.
    11. Rams (1-0)- Turnovers and a weak rushing defense don't help, but they always seem to find a way to win.
    12. Redskins (1-0)- The defense impressed me more than Clinton Portis, who took his first handoff 64 yards to the house.
    13. Steelers (1-0)- Everyone seems to look past this team, but if they can find a way to get Jerome Bettis three touchdowns with one yard rushing, they deserve a look.
    14. Panthers (0-1)- Are they a one-year wonder? The supposed best D-Line in the NFL didn't show me much against Ahman Green.
    15. Browns (1-0)- They surprised everyone by stomping the Ravens and could surprise a lot more teams this season.
    16. Falcons (1-0)- Michael Vick had an average game, but managed to squeak out a win against the worst team in the NFL.
    17. Ravens (0-1)- A big disappointment in Week One. After rushing for 500 yards and four touchdowns against the Browns last year, Jamal Lewis managed only 57 yards against Cleveland.
    18. Jaguars (1-0)- Everyone's sleeper pick this year, but their offense continued to struggle despite pulling out a win against the Bills.
    19. Cowboys (0-1)- The Dallas D didn't put up much of a fight against the Vikings, and a 40-year-old leads the offense.
    20. Bengals (0-1)- Carson Palmer showed he's for real, but Marvin Lewis must get that defense in shape.
    21. Lions (1-0)- Their young offense will struggle this season, and the loss of Charles Rogers (again) hurts, but the playmaking defense will upset some teams.
    22. Saints (0-1)- Why can't they win? Their speedy offense was shut down by the Seahawks and their defense was even worse.
    23. Buccaneers (0-1)- They looked pretty weak against the Redskins but could put up a fight in the inconsistent NFC South.
    24. Raiders (0-1)- Rich Gannon is still alive, but their aging offense will put this team six feet under.
    25. Cardinals (0-1)- Even with Marcel Shipp and Anquan Boldin out, they gave the Rams a game.
    26. Bills (0-1)- When they're in sync, they can beat anyone, but new coach Mike Mularkey will have problems doing that.
    27. Texans (0-1)- All that preseason hype and they open up the season by losing to the Chargers. After two fumbles, maybe Domanick Davis will finally shut his mouth.
    28. Chargers (1-0)- If Drew Brees can keep playing like he did Sunday, nobody will stop them. Just kidding.
    29. Bears (0-1)- David Terrell really stepped up after the team traded away Marty Booker, and my boy Thomas Jones looks promising, but they'll be battling to stay out of the cellar.
    30. Dolphins (0-1)- The whole team is in disarray, and they've already found out how much their quarterbacks suck.
    31. Giants (0-1)- Neither Kurt Warner or Eli Manning will survive behind a horrible line that gave up five sacks. At least Tiki Barber didn't fumble.
    32. Whiners (0-1)- Um... Uh... Hey, did anyone see Ken Dorsey play? Nevermind.

    Jake's Power Rankings: Week Two
    by evil disco man
    1. Patriots [2-0] - The rushing defense held up this time, but the offense faltered in the red zone. It wasn’t a dominant performance, but the Pats just keep on winning. (Last Week's Rank: 1)

    2. Eagles [2-0] - They look just as good on the field as they do on paper. The offensive-defensive balance is what puts this team ahead of anyone in the NFC. (2)

    3. Colts [1-1] - The word of the week for Peyton Manning and his Colts is resilience. Down 17-10 entering the final quarter, this team scored 21 points to blow away the Titans in Nashville. Opening up with two away games against New England and Tennessee will toughen this team up. (8)

    4. Seahawks [2-0] - A win is a win for Mike Holmgrem’s team, and two wins on the road mean even more, as they’ve already matched last year’s total road victories. Youngsters Marcus Trufant and Michael Boulware earned their stripes, each coming away with an interception. (5)

    5. Titans [1-1] - Once again, I say, Chris Brown will make fans forget about Eddie Three-Yard. One thing they’ll never forget is what Indianapolis did to them in the second half. They threw away opportunities to pull away in the game and were embarrassed in the fourth quarter. (4)

    6. Vikings [1-1] - Playing in Philly isn’t an easy thing to do, as they found out Monday Night. The long ball was shut down all game and they crumbled under pressure by making costly mistakes to lose the game, but it’s early in the season. If the game was in the Metrodome, there might have been different results. (3)

    7. Jets [2-0] - I, for one, am not surprised about the quick start for the Jets. The beautifully balanced offense, led by Chad Pennington and Curtis Martin, jumped out to a 17-0 lead and held on for the victory. (9)

    8. Ravens [1-1] - Baltimore woke up, responding after last week’s whooping at the hands of Cleveland. Kyle Boller didn’t commit a turnover, and even Deion made a couple plays before his hammy started hurting again. (17)

    9. Panthers [1-1] - The D-Line stiffened up against Priest Holmes, and DeShaun Foster cemented my opinion that he is better than Stephen Davis - I don’t care if it was against the Chiefs. They have some momentum going into the bye week. (14)

    10. Packers [1-1] - It took this team until the end of the third quarter to score a touchdown against da Bears. Ahman Green spoiled another great individual performance with his fumbling. (6)

    11. Broncos [1-1] - Quentin Griffin (who I benched this week in favor of D. Foster) sputtered against the tough Jacksonville defense. He’s a good running back, but please don’t ever compare him to Barry Sanders again. (7)

    12. Jaguars [2-0] - The offense is still going through some struggles, but they’ve now won two close games to get a head start on the season. Jack Del Rio’s defense is stellar. (18)

    13. Lions [2-0] - The Lions go...

Rams Move Up in ESPN Rankings

    2004 Power Rankings: Week 2
    Rank Team Rec. Comment
1 Patriots 1-0-0 The run defense might be a concern, but we're guessing Belichick and Co. will find a way to work around it.
2 Eagles 1-0-0 Apparently Donovan McNabb is pretty happy with his new toy at wide receiver.
3 Seahawks 1-0-0 Losing Shaun Alexander for any time would be a blow to this offense. Maurice Morris is decent, but he's nowhere near Alexander's league.
4 Titans 1-0-0 Not too many people saw this game, but trust us, Chris Brown is the real deal at RB.
5 Broncos 1-0-0 That move Quentin Griffin put on Jerome Woods on Sunday night was just flat out sick.
6 Vikings 1-0-0 Wow. We knew Minnesota's offense was going to be good, but they sure did put on a show Sunday.
7 Colts 0-1-0 The Colts can talk all they want about the best team not winning Thursday, but the fact remains the same: one team is 1-0 and the other isn't.
8 Packers 1-0-0 This week's bold prediction: Ahman Green will rush for over 2,000 yards this season.
9 Chiefs 0-1-0 Looks like the same story as last season. The Chiefs can score with anybody, but the defense is going to be a problem, especially against the good teams.
10 Jets 1-0-0 Obviously a healthy Chad Pennington helps Curtis Martin, but what we watched Sunday was more than that. Martin looked much more explosive than he was last season.
11 Rams 1-0-0 We heard it from Rams fans last week about their No. 16 rankings, and maybe it was too low, but they sure weren't all that impressive in Week 1 against the Cardinals.
12 Redskins 1-0-0 Things went about as well as they could have in Joe Gibbs return to the sideline in D.C.
13 Panthers 0-1-0 That Steve Smith injury was tough to watch. He really came into his own last season and was poised for even bigger things this year.
14 Steelers 1-0-0 At his current pace Jerome Bettis is going to carry the ball 80 times for 16 yards and score 48 TDs this year.
15 Ravens 0-1-0 Teams are going to stack the line against the Ravens and Jamal Lewis all season and if Kyle Boller can't make them pay, the Ravens are going to be in trouble.
16 Jaguars 1-0-0 Huge win for the Jags. Byron Leftwich might not have played well, but he got the W and that's what QBs are measured by.
17 Cowboys 0-1-0 The Cowboys aren't going to win too many games when they have to pass the ball 51 times
18 Bengals 0-1-0 All you Carson Palmer haters out there, if the Bengals stumble this year it's not going to have anything to do with the second-year QB.
19 Falcons 1-0-0 It wasn't an earth-shattering performance, but a lot of eyes were on Michael Vick and he got the Falcons a win.
20 Browns 1-0-0 What an effort by the Browns defense. We'll be the first to admit that this one caught us by surprise.
21 Saints 0-1-0 Looks like it could be the same old story for the Saints. Lots...

    Power Rankings--What a joke
    by RamWraith
    ESPN's

1 Patriots 14-2-0 Their talent says they should be back in the Super Bowl. Recent history says they might not even make the playoffs.

2 Eagles 12-4-0 Donovan McNabb? Terrell Owens? Andy Reid? Take your pick, they're all under pressure in Philly this year.

3 Colts 12-4-0 With Edgerrin James and Marvin Harrison free agents at the end of the season this could be the final run for the Big Three in Indy.

4 Chiefs 13-3-0 Gunther Cunningham alone isn't going to fix the defense. It's still up to the players, who are the same as last year and that could be a problem.

5 Seahawks 10-6-0 Some might have scoffed at Matt Hasselbeck's 'we want the ball and we're going to score' statement. But to us, it's just a confident QB who has fun playing the game.

6 Ravens 10-6-0 Jamal Lewis IS the Ravens offense and despite what they say, any missed games would be a big blow.
7 Vikings 9-7-0 Last year Randy Moss had career highs in catches (117), yards (1,632) and TDs (tied at 17). We're expecting nothing short of that this year.

8 Panthers 11-5-0 While the Panthers looked poised to follow up last year's success, the turnover on the offensive line has to be a concern.

9 Titans 12-4-0 Titans fans won't forget what Eddie George meant to the franchise, but Tennessee's running game is going to be just fine with Chris Brown.

10 Broncos 10-6-0 The Broncos are definitely better on defense. But with unproven RBs and questions at WR, it's the offense that could be a problem.

11 Packers 10-6-0 If Mike McKenzie remains out of the lineup the secondary could end up keeping the Packers from being a Super Bowl team.

12 Cowboys 10-6-0 Can the Cowboys be a legitimate contender with a 40-year old QB? We'll find out because Vinny isn't going anywhere for a while.

13 Saints 8-8-0 This team looks talented enough to be a playoff contender. Of course, hasn't that been the case the last few years?

14 Jets 6-10-0 With Pennington, Moss, Martin and Co., the offense will be good. But can the defense raise its level of play under new coordinator Donnie Henderson?

15 Bengals 8-8-0 We think Carson Palmer is going to be a stud. But it will be interesting to see how he -- and Marvin Lewis -- reacts if he gets off to a rough start.

16 Rams 12-4-0 Steven Jackson looks legit, but a healthy Marshall Faulk is still the best offensive weapon the Rams have.

17 Jaguars 5-11-0 We love Byron Leftwich's potential, but the talk about a surprise Super Bowl run is a little premature.

8 Bills 6-10-0 If Drew Bledsoe can get back on track the Bills could be a team to watch out for.

19 Falcons 5-11-0 With DeAngelo Hall out for 6-10 weeks and Michael Vick still gimpy, it hasn't been...

    NickSeiler's Week Two Power Rankings
    by Nick
    1. PATRIOTS: Brady throws two INTs and the Pats had a little bit of trouble against the Cards, but they continue their winning streak with a solid road win.

    2. EAGLES: First off, Owens did NOT make the catch last night. But the Eagles defense shut down Moss's deep game and McNabb proved he's still quite dangerous on the run.

    3. COLTS: Indy had a good showing against Tennessee, including 21-0 in the 4th quarter, being penalized only twice, and not allowing the Titans to convert on any of their three fourth down attempts.

    4. VIKINGS: Daunte completed 79% of his passes and the Vikes were in this game until the officials robbed them of it. They'll be much more dangerous when they get Bennett back.

    5. SEATTLE: As impressive as shutting Deuce McAllister down is, the Seahawks haven't exactly played great-looking teams to become 2-0. Their win against TB wasn't that great. Still, it's a feat worth noting.

    6. JETS: Pennington has a rating of 124.3 and Martin is averaging over five yards a carry after two games. The defense made Drew Brees look like Drew Brees, but buckled on fourth down.

    7. TITANS: The Titans beat a weak Dolphins team and lost to the Colts. Not exceptionally impressive thus far, but Chris Brown looks like the real deal out there. Eddie who?

    8. FALCONS: The Atlanta Vicks are 2-0 and Michael proved a lot of doubters wrong this weekend. But the Falcons have struggled on third down and barely squeeked out a win against the ***** in Week 1.

    9. BALTIMORE: I don't know what happened in Week 1, but the Ravens looked pretty good against the Steelers last weekend. Kyle Boller actually showed some good scrambling ability, but what's going on with Jamal Lewis?

    10. PACKERS: Green Bay looked sharp against Carolina but buckled to Chicago at home. Perhaps the Packers just whiffed on one here, because with their talent, I wouldn't rule them out of the NFC North hunt.

    11. LIONS: The Lions are 2-0 after beating the Bears and the Texans. Probably not worth getting this worked up about, but Roy Williams looks like a veteran out there and could be just what Harrington needs.

    12. PANTHERS: No one should be getting that excited about Foster having a big day against the Chiefs' defense, but Carolina bounced back well after losing Smith and Davis.

    13. RAMS: The Rams should have beat Arizona by much more and were in the game against Atlanta until the end. They started 1-1 last season, so no one should be planning their top ten pick on their draft board yet.

    14. JAGUARS: Undefeated, but who have they played? A weak Buffalo team and the Broncos. Their run defense is impressive, but Leftwich hasn't showed me much. Still, you have to recognize the record.

    15. REDSKINS: Clinton Portis is always dangerous, but with Brunell out, Ramsey is going to have to...
