  • What is Marmie thinking??

After 2 days of sulking and watching the game again I am more irritated at Marmie than anyone. The guy put ZERO pressure on the Falcons and seldom blitzed. WHY? I didn't like the Marmie pick up when it happened and now I am beginning to realize why.

I found this out of an Atlanta Paper:

    Where’s the blitz?
Count McClure among those surprised that the Rams rarely blitzed the Falcons, who’ve had problems handling it at times in the preseason, and against the ***** on Sept. 12.

“I was [surprised],” the center said. “I think everybody was. We thought at some point they were going to make some sort of change to offset what we were doing.”

Someone needs to tell Marmie that, when your offense is moving the ball, its better to blitz and get burned, then never to blitz at all.

Who are you going to blitz? Pisa? He's the only one stopping anyone when they get past the front four. Aeneas? Who is going to back up the banged up secondary? Arch? He can't tackle a Happy Meal right now.

We just don't have the personnel to dictate play on the D side of the ball.

SO what your saying is that we can't blitz these people because everyone else sucks? Not sure I agree with this rational. To me what we were doing wasn't working what do we have to loose???

Guess nothing J. I just think we are very bad on the D side of the ball now. Arch for whatever reason is tanking, the draft of 2001 is shaping up to be a bust finally, we have no one in the secondary, and our LB's aren't very good except for Pisa.

In defense of Archuleta, he was reportedly having back spasms during the week, and that may have hindered his ability to adjust to Vick's lightning fast cuts (does not excuse him on the FB whiff, though).

I think the Rams do need to find a way to mix in more blitzes. Its risky, particularly with the D's thin ranks due to injuries, but you can't just let offenses march down the field and keep Bulger/Bruce/Holt and Co. off the field.

                Agree,

We should almost be in a high risk mode right now. We have issues and not having corners are going to kill us. I say we need to blitz and then blitz some more. We get beat deep, then so be it. IT should be a feast or famine mentality and hope our offense can put up the points.

ALSO, Linebackers with no intensity is not going to cut it in this league. Middle linebacker has been a issue for us for 3 years and Thomas is not the answer. He couldn't light a fire under a burning bed.

I'd like to give him the benefit of doubt for playing thru pain. Because atrocious doesn't describe his play. He got ear-holed, man-handled, faked out his gourd and stiff-armed. The only comfort he can take from the game is that his reputation preceded him to the point that he was obviously a target all day for blockers. They tattooed "My Beotch" on his asss but good.

Larry Marmie Get The D Aggressive or GET OUT
                    by ramsbruce
Our defence is lackluster. Someone posted that we should put AW back at corner and I agree, he is still our best cover corner. Spy running QBs (ie VICK). Just get out there and light somebody up, start hitting people, have some emotion, play with pride. I dont think Marmie is the answer but the D at least has to try to play with pride. :ramlogo:

                    A song for Larry Marmie
                    by AvengerRam_old
To the tune of Billy Joel's "Pressure"

There is no need to pace yourself... pressure!
We've got to win this week, or else... pressure!
The offense can only go so far, so good
But you will come to a place
Where the only thing you'll fear
Are bombs and long runs, in your face
You can slow them down with pressure!

There's no need to be paranoid... pressure!
The big play... yes you can avoid... pressure!
I'm sure you have some "Marmie rationale"
But here you are, second place
Do you want my sage advice?
Load up the line, in their face
And you don't relent from pressure!

                    Line them up
                    and then let them go
                    On his back
                    Hass-le-beck, he can't throw
Mok and Yo stop whining 'bout ol' 13
                    This song's 'bout the D
                    You know what I mean

I'll tell you what we need...
                    PRESSURE!!!!

I'm sure you have some "Marmie rationale"
But if you force, third and nine
don't sit back, let's get it on
                    Aggressive play, wins the day
We can win it all with pressure!!!

                    1-2-3-4 PRESSURE!!!

                    Marmie Back Next Season?
                    by CarolinaRam
I knew that would get ya....

But really. What is the chance that Marmie is not fired after the season is over? I thought for sure he'd be gone after last year.

Normally I don't start thinking about this sort of thing so early, but our season is over - no doubt about that. I'm so confused by what our FO wants, I think that possibly Marmie could return. It's been said that the FO doesn't want to be a consistently winning team and Marmie is just the guy to guarantee that.

I do believe, however, that he's pretty much gone. The defense is under a microscope, how could he not be? Nevertheless, I still worry.

                    Fire Larry Marmie !
                    by Tony Soprano
Last year we finished the season giving up 48 points to the Falcons. This year we've played total patsies - except for the Giants and the Seahawks.

In those 2 games, we given up an average of 41 points.

Seriously, did anyone think of Marmie when we had to go out and get a DEF coord? Most teams get a coord from a team that's Defense is setting the league on fire. That's how it's done, that's how we got Lovie Smith,, Tampa Bay's DEF was the leagues best and he was a coach on that DEF.
BUT, we bring in Larry Marmie, the Arizona Cardinals DEF coordinator. Now, Marmie was fired from Arizona (with the rest of the staff). So, Marmie wasn't a hot coach, and he didn't work on a good Defense, yet we brought him in here to be Defensive coordinator.

The only remote reason one can fathom for hiring Marmie is simply Cronyism.

The Question is not will we immediately turn things around under a new Defensive coordinator, the Question is are we going in the wrong direction on Defense?

                    .
