Ex-Falcon Foster likely headed to Rams
    By D. ORLANDO LEDBETTER

    Thursday, June 18, 2009

Offensive tackle Renardo Foster, who was released by the Falcons on Tuesday, appears headed to the St. Louis Rams.

St. Louis has placed a waiver claim for Foster, according to his agent Brian Ayrault.

Denver, Buffalo and Carolina were also reportedly interested in Foster.

The waiver period ends on Friday for Foster. Waiver claims are awarded to a team with the worst record.

The only team who could beat a claim from the Rams, who were 2-14 last season, would be the Detroit Lions, who were 0-16.

If the Lions don’t make a claim, the Rams will assume the last year of the two-year contract Foster signed in 2007.

Foster, 6-foot-7, 340-pounds, made the team as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2007. He started two games and played in seven under former coach Bobby Petrino before suffering a knee injury on Oct. 21, 2007 against New Orleans.

    Great (potential) signing. Excellent depth.

Hey, anything that could maybe upgrade the offensive line is great news to me. Even if it's depth. And it's not like the Falcons were a bad running team last year either!

I wish when these types of things come out that we would be clued into why the man was released.

Ummm knee injury might have something to do with it?

I'm sure the knee had something to do with it, but another factor looks like the Falcons signing Jeremy Newberry.

          Falcons eliminate two from roster
          By D. ORLANDO LEDBETTER

          The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

          Tuesday, June 16, 2009

The Falcons released offensive tackle Renardo Foster and punter Robbie Dehaze on Tuesday, the team confirmed.

Foster, who spent last season on injured reserve, was released a day after the team signed offensive lineman Jeremy Newberry.
Foster was signed while Devaney was in Atlanta and I'm sure he 's familiar with him and had input in the decision to make the waiver claim. We'll see how it works out.

Is it just me or have our camp body linemen been of.....shall we say, more regal proportion......than in other years?

            Burton, 330
            Allen, 330

Well, this move couldn't hurt. Here's hoping something positive ends up coming out of this.

Looks like Shurmur is Andy Reid Jr. he likes his lineman 330 pounds. 4 of the their 5 starting lineman are clocking in over 340 pounds with only Tod Hermans around with 320 and 2 key reserves over 350 pounds. Thats beyond huge, I would love to see something like that with the Rams

Good point Azul, but caste iron toilet seats is only a start. We will need dramatically enhanced bowl and flushing capacity as well. How would you like to be in charge of "plunging" operations at the rams training facility?

Rams wide receiver Brooks Foster is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks after undergoing surgery on his injured foot, according to the team's Twitter page. Foster is a rookie out of the University of North Carolina.

                                OUR VIEW
Foster was already expected to be out 2-to-4 weeks, but he decided to have the surgery to get in fully healed. He could still see some time with the team later this season, but for now his rookie year looks to be a disappointing one.

As expected, the Rams placed wide receiver Brooks Foster on the injured reserve list Tuesday, as part of the mandatory roster cutdown to 75 players. Foster, a fifth-round draft pick from North Carolina, suffered an ankle injury in the preseason opener against the Jets that required surgery.

The Rams waited until the cutdown to place Foster on IR, because he would have counted against the 80-man roster and been required to go through waivers had they made the move earlier.

Has anybody heard if the rams have used or is looking at mabe putting him at tackle

6'7" 340lbs + he is listed at guard but body size like that sounds more like a tackle

was talk that in the 2 games that he played in he went up against some pretty good competition, Just dont know if those games he played in was preseason or not.

                                was just kinda wondering

Running backs DeShaun Foster and Gary Russell were among five players to work out for the St. Louis Rams on Tuesday at Rams Park. The group also included fullback-running back Carey Davis, a St. Louis native, and linebackers Tank Daniels and David Herron.

Like most NFL teams, the Rams routinely work out players on Tuesday once the regular season begins. General manager Billy Devaney indicated early Tuesday afternoon that no signing is imminent on any of the players. Foster, 29, originally was a second-round pick by Carolina in 2002. Foster rushed for 800 yards-plus in three consecutive seasons (2005-2007) with the Panthers. But his playing time and production dipped considerably last season for San Francisco, when he had only 234 yards on 76 carries for the *****.

He was released after the ‘08 season by San Francisco.

Russell, 5-11, 215 spent the ‘07 and ‘08 seasons with Pittsburgh, and was in Oakland’s camp this summer. The former University of Minnesota star has only 98 yards rushing with three touchdowns as an NFL player.

Davis, who played his high school ball for Hazelwood Central before attending the University of Illinois, started four games at fullback last season for the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers.

Among the linebackers, Daniels was in Philadelphia’s camp and Herron was in Minnesota’s this summer.

Devaney also indicated that the Rams weren’t interested in wide receiver Greg Lewis, recently released by New England.

Surgery sidelines Rams WR Brooks Foster 6-8 weeks
                                by eldfan
The worst injury news of the weekend for the St. Louis Rams had nothing to do with Friday’s 20-13 preseason loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Coach Steve Spagnuolo announced Saturday that additional testing revealed additional damage to the ankle of rookie wide receiver Brooks Foster. Foster underwent surgery Friday, and will miss six to eight weeks. With that long of a recovery time, Foster may end up on the injured reserve list. Spagnuolo said the team will decide later what action to take on Foster’s roster status. And with the final cutdown dates looming, the Rams may not want to bring in an additional wide receiver if they do indeed place Foster on IR. Foster, a fifth-round draft pick from North Carolina, suffered the injury in the Rams’ preseason opener Aug. 14 against the New York Jets. It was originally thought to be a high ankle sprain.

Other injury updates from Spagnuolo’s Saturday media briefing:

_ WR Donnie Avery (foot) and QB Marc Bulger (finger) will miss Thursday’s preseason contest in Cincinnati.

_ LG Jacob Bell (concussion) will do some running when the team returns to work Sunday. If he expereriences no post-concussion symptoms after that work, he will take another baseline test _ a test Bell must clear before playing again.

_ DT Adam Carriker (ankle) will do more field work (individual drills) to gauge his readiness to return.

_ OT Alex Barron (knee) and OT Phil Trautwein (back) are day-to-day.

_ DE Eric Moore (ribs) and DE James Hall (sternum) will be re-evaluated Sunday.

_ RB Kenneth Darby “dinged” his knee against Atlanta, but came out of the game OK.
