  • Would you trade Avery for Denver's Brandon Marshall

With the problem that Marshall is having with Denver, would you trade Avery for Marshall. He's a big proven receiver and team him with Robinson and the Ram's receiving core does not look like such a weak link.

    No chance in hell.

His talent does not make up for his attitude

      I'd pass.

Marshall is a risk/reward that (to me) right now is leaning heavier to the risk side. Avery (assuming no long term problems with the stress fracture) is nowhere near as risky with similar levels of reward.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Avery has been in this league for only one year. He has not hit his ceiling yet. For all we know Avery could have a star studded season and be considered in Marshall's category of player next offseason.

No. Marshall is one "bad judgment" away from being suspended.

No way... he'd be fussy for being traded to a non-contender and would do nothing but complain all year long. And that's after we gave him a huge contract. Avery is doing everything he can to get back on the field for us after his foot was broken, meanwhile "Baby TO" is doing everything he can to try to whine his way out of a great situation in Denver.

Crybaby OchoCinco is more like it than Baby TO.

This is one of those questions if we were to take a look at it in the middle of the season and say "what was he thinking!"

Re: Would you trade Avery for Denver's Brandon Marshall

I would take Brandon Marshall over Donnie Avery any and every day of the week. With Marshall he has proven his ability to play and dominate in this league. With Avery he's got the speed and plenty of potential. Their age distant isnt very drastic with Marshall only having been in the league for three years. Right now I fully support him and how upset he is with the Broncos organization. When a head coach can come in and piss off your two best players so quickly that they're ready to jump before the season even starts; that says bad things about the coach.

Now while Marshall has had legal issues, he was cleared of the charges in Georgia. The rule has always been innocent until proven guilty and he was not proven guilty, thus I will give the benefit of the doubt. Marshall is a guy that I believe has the talent to be one of the top three wideouts in the game today, I just dont see that same potential from Avery.

I'd make the trade in a heartbeat. I dont think anyone will disagree that the guy has amazing football talent, and is clearly a better player right now then EVERY receiver on the Rams roster. Denver should pay him his money, the guy has clearly earned the raise by vastly exceeding the expectations laid out in his rookie contract. Much like Jay Cutler this isnt a guy who has been a problem in the locker room or anything like that. He just has a problem with not being paid the money he should be getting, and he doesnt appear to like the direction the Denver Broncos are heading.

So, he's trying to get out. In a league where contracts arent guaranteed and you are only as good as your last play; I have no issue at all with what he's doing.

I'd be more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt if he didn't have a track record of getting into or narrowly avoiding off-the-field trouble that suggests this will be an on-going issue for him.

                  Quoting from his Wikipedia page...

According to Orlando-Orange County public records (case 48-2004-MM-012392-O), on Halloween 2004, while a student at UCF, Marshall was arrested in Orlando on charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, refusal to obey, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.

On January 1, 2007, Marshall was present at "The Shelter," a nightclub in Denver, Colorado, along with teammates Javon Walker and Darrent Williams. The trio was attending a birthday party held for and by Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin. As the players were leaving the club in a limousine, Williams was fatally shot in the neck after an unknown assailant opened fire on the vehicle. Willie Clark was later charged with the murder. Walker has stated in interviews that the shooter was likely a nightclub patron whose motive was retaliation after being involved in an altercation with Marshall's cousin earlier that night.

On March 26, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Highlands Ranch suburb of Denver on suspicion of domestic violence after his girlfriend reported that following a domestic dispute, Marshall prevented a taxi she was in from leaving his house. Charges from the incident were later dismissed on May 25, 2007, after Marshall completed anger management counseling.

In the early morning of October 22, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area at the intersection of 14th and Blake St. for driving under the influence of alcohol. A trial was scheduled for September 16, but Marshall instead agreed to a plea bargain four days earlier; he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired. He was sentenced to one-year probation and 24 hours of community service.

On June 12, 2008, Marshall was ticketed for an illegal lane change, then found to be without his license and proof of insurance. The case was eventually dropped as part of a plea bargain for the October 22, 2007 driving incident involving alcohol.

According to an article published in the Rocky Mountain News on July 28, 2008, Douglas County deputies fielded "about 11" calls to Marshall's home since January 2006. The article stated that one call resulted in Marshall being arrested (the March 26, 2007 domestic dispute), and some did not involve him at all.

A September 17, 2008 article on CompleteColorado.com stated that the solicitor's office in Fulton County, Georgia filed misdemeanor battery charges on September 10 for an alleged incident on March 4, 2008, in Atlanta, Georgia. Marshall was booked on March 6, then released the next day after posting a $1,000 cash bond. The case was assigned to Judge John Mather in Georgia state court. An email from Judge Mather's office to CompleteColorado.com indicated that no court date had been set, but that the date would likely be in November or December.

On March 1, 2009, Marshall was arrested in Atlanta for disorderly conduct after allegedly being involved in a fight with his fiancee, Michi Nogami-Campbell. Marshall was released on a $300 bond. The charges were dropped the following day.
He's 25 years old, has only been in the league three years, and this is the amount of baggage he's carrying. While he was found not guilty in his recent battery case, there is still a disturbing pattern of behavior, or at the very least, a disturbing pattern of trouble that seems to follow Mr. Marshall around. It appears as though he's one more problem away from a lengthy suspension from the league, and while he was found not guilty this time, there's no guarantee he will be the next time. Then he does his team no good by being off the field.

And that doesn't even begin to get into his behavior with the Broncos.

I just don't see much reason to risk it. What you'd essentially be doing is trading away either a player you find valuable, a pick or package of picks you find valuable, or a package of a player and pick(s) which you find valuable. Then you'd have to sign Brandon Marshall to a long-term deal, probably something in line with what Roddy White received in Atlanta (six years, $48 million).

That means you have to ask yourself - after you've traded away a player and/or picks for Marshall and have signed him for six years, do you really think he's going to be able to stay out of trouble for the duration of that contract when he's had so many problems in only three years in the league?

Talented player, but I'd prefer to keep my distance.

He's had dozens of legal issues and run-ins with the law, was involved in the incident where Darrent Williams was killed, pled guilty and was convicted for driving while ability impared. He's been suspended by the league to boot.

He has the talent and the ability to be the best receiver in the NFL, but has a proven, well documented history of finding trouble and being a distraction.

                    NO THANKS.

with robinson stepping up and Avery coming back, I would rather focus on stopping the run. once our offensive line offers protection, the WR position will be less concern.

I would... on Madden. And that would only be because his speed went down a little bit this year and big recievers seem to have a bigger impact. No longer is speed the end all for a wide receiver in Madden. I mean look at Fitz, that dude is pretty much unstopable on there. Its all about the big boys in '10. That's what we are talking about right? A video game?

Oh in real life, where you have to deal with off the field issues? No at chance.

I also have to agree that I would stay away from him. He has had too many off the field issues and I believe he would be a distraction. I think he is only one incident away from a lenghty suspention. I believe we all agree that if the Rams traded for him they would have to give him a big contract to just have him susupended down the line, does not seem well worth it for me. I would take a pass, and also where does he fit in with Spags four pillars.

Madden 2011 will now make you deal with WR's shooting themselves in the leg and getting arrested. Enjoy.
