  • Game Injuries

A spate of injuries Thursday night cast questions not only on the final roster cuts, but also on the availability of certain players for Seattle. Defensive tackle Adam Carriker (right shoulder), running back Samkon Gado (ribs), safety Craig Dahl (hamstring), cornerback Justin King (knee), safety David Roach (shoulder), and Moore (hand) all left the game with ailments. Some happened so late in the contest that Spagnuolo wasn't really sure of their severity.
Carriker getting banged up again is disturbing. Starting the season at less than 100% is certainly not going to help him get on track. Hopefully his injury is nothing serious, same for Gado.

There's never a good time for players to get injured, but this freaking sucks. Gado, King and Carriker? (again) This really might cost Carriker his roster spot, he has a ton of potential, but as the old adage goes, it's not doing us any good if he can't stay healthy.

It does cloud the cut down picture a bit. The silver lining may be that one of the other DL players like Ah You might stick. Saw some good moments from Scott; great explosion into the QB on one play & even Hollis seemed to show some life.

I feel the same about Gado. I really don't see a significant difference between him and Darby. And Darby has flashed in "real" games.Given some extended chances with the first team, I hope he will develop, like Fells seems to be doing, from potential to productive.

I also think KD got the short end of the blocking stick in pre-season quite a bit & the knee ding didn't help.

I still think Pittman is the odd man out. Let's face it, if we're relying on any of them for long,we are in trouble. I'm more worried about Karney's ankle and Cogs' knee as far as the run unit is concerned.

At least Avery survived without a setback.

I'd hate to think Dahl's injury would mean Roach will be sticking around. No, the pick did not make up for the many flubs for me.That's one pest I want to see scuttling away when the lights come on.

Bring on The Hags! Time to get real.

I hate to say it but Carriker may have to go, I was a hugh Carriker backer on draft day and still am, but this team cannot afford to hold a spot on the roster for this guy if he is always going to be injuried, maybe it's not serious, but he has had shoulder issues before.

When I heard Carriker was banged up after the game. I said to myself, let me guess it's a shoulder? His shoulder issues have become chronic. Does he need to strengthen his shoulders or what? :|

Hearing on the grapevine that Carriker's injury is season-ending. I'm tired of this guy, can't stay healthy, and very inconsistent on the field. Needs to be cut now, whether the injury is severe or not. Tired of the concerns here ...

If it's season ending, why not just IR him, then he doesn't have to be cut to free up a spot?
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

True, I guess what I meant was, he eventually needs to be cut, I don't see him being a part of the future when he can't even stay on the field ...

Off topic, but geez, Adeyanju was a destroyer last night!

just a question why IR him when it's becoming clear this guy can't stay healthy,as I said earlier I am Carriker fan but the guy just can't stay on the field.

I watched Raji play a bit the other night,he's going to be really good, the Rams are lacking that kind of beast in the middle and until they get that teams will run on them.

                        Re: Game Injuries

I was and still am a big Carriker fan, as I thought he could be a great pass rushing DT in this league. However, with him seemingly being constantly injured, it's looking like his career might be getting close to being over unfortunately, because he has the skills, just not the body apparently.

The reason to IR him is two fold, one so that he doesn't come back and hurt himself more, and two to keep him on our team in case he does get back to a full 100% after a year off. I'm not ready to give up on him yet, but if indeed he is out for the season, it casts a serious question on whether he'll ever be healthy.
                        I believe!:ram:

I’m in the opinion it might be time to move on if this is a year end injury.

Well, for one, I believe there is something in the CBA about cutting an injured player, but that may just be about settlement and not necessarily the team's perogative to cut. But the bigger point is cutting him does absolutely nothing for the Rams (I doubt there's even a cap saving with accelerated bonus money). IR'ing him keeps him on the team without taking up a roster spot. Next year, one of two things happens......he gets healthy and contributes or doesn't and most likely faces retirement.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

                              Re: Game Injuries

Retirement isn't an issue for Carriker. Why would he retire and give up the rest of his contract if the Rams are willing to keep him on the roster and pay him?

I'd IR Carriker. His big problem with coming back was that you can't put him on the roster and cut someone competitive if he isn't 100%. Putting him on the IR is very easy solution in my opinion to all your problems.

Oh and the question on whether he needs to strengthen his shoulder: he was prohibited from working out from about December through June. So yeah, he probably needs that. He looked HORRIBLE last night when on the field.
