    OT Trautwein claimed by Cleveland
    By Jim Thomas
    St. Louis Post-Dispatch
After releasing offensive tackle Phil Trautwein over the weekend, all indications were that the St. Louis Rams planned to sign him to their practice squad.

Instead, the Cleveland Browns claimed Trautwein over the weekend, adding him to their 53-man roster. A rookie free agent from Florida, Trautwein started slowly in camp for the Rams, but appeared to improve steadily over the course of the preseason.

Meanwhile, the Rams had either signed or were in the process of signing LB Dominic Douglas and running back Chris Ogbonnaya to their practice squad Sunday. Ogbonnaya was a seventh-round draft pick out of Texas by the Rams; Douglas is rookie free agent from Mississippi State.

The Rams were also thought to be interested in signing linebacker K.C. Asiodu, defensive end Ian Cambpell, cornerback Cord Parks, and wide receiver Sean Walker to their practice squad.

Rams sign OT Trautwein to 53-man roster
    By Jim Thomas
    St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Offensive tackle Phil Trautwein, who spent the preseason and training camp with the St. Louis Rams, has rejoined the team. The Rams signed Trautwein, a rookie from Florida, off the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad Tuesday.

The Rams cut Trautwein on Sept. 5, planning to re-sign him to their practice squad once he cleared waivers. But he was claimed instead by Cleveland, spending the first four weeks of this season on the Browns’ 53-man roster. Trautwein didn’t play in those four games, then was cut by the Browns and spent the past two weeks on their practice squad.

The Rams returned the favor Tuesday by signing Trautwein to their active roster. Wide receiver Nate Jones was cut to make room for Trautwein.

Rams add wide receiver. . .to practice squad

All signs point to the St. Louis Rams holding firm at just four wide receivers on the active roster for Week 1 of the regular season. The team signed wide receiver Nate Jones to their practice squad Tuesday, but made no additions to the active roster.

The first-year player from Texas was on the Rams’ 53-man roster for one day over the weekend, until he and linebacker Quinton Culberson were released to make room for the waiver-wire additions of safety Anthony Smith and defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey.

Defensive end Ian Campbell was dropped from the practice squad to make room for Jones.

    Rams complete practice squad
    By Bill Coats
    St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The St. Louis Rams have completed their eight-man practice squad, adding running back Chris Ogbonnaya and defensive end Bryan Smith.

Ogbonnaya was the Rams’ seventh-round draft pick in April. He was cut Saturday, unclaimed on waivers, and re-signed. Smith, 6-2 and 250, was drafted by the Eagles in the third round last year out of McNeese State. He was on their 53-man roster last year but was among the inactives for every game.

Ogbonnaya and Smith join cornerback Cord Parks, tight end Eric Butler, linebackers K.C. Asiodu and Dominic Douglas, defensive end Ian Campbell and wide receiver Sean Walker in making up the Rams’ practice squad.

Rams add two to practice squad ..

Cornerback Terrail Lambert worked out Tuesday for the Rams and will be added to the practice squad. He joins defensive tackle Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, who was signed Monday to the practice squad.

Lambert, 24, signed with San Francisco in 2009 as an undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame but spent most of last season on the Indianapolis practice squad. He was released by the Colts at the end of the 2010 preseason. At Notre Dame, Lambert started 31 games and had four career interceptions, one of which he returned for a game-winning touchdown against Michigan State.

Saddler-McQueen was signed last April by Chicago as an undrafted rookie from NCAA Div. II Texas A&M-Kingsville. He spent most of training camp and the preseason with Dallas before getting released by the Cowboys. Saddler-McQueen recorded a forced fumble in his first exhibition game with the Cowboys and had a safety later in the preseason against San Diego.

The Rams released fullback Jamie McCoy to make room for Saddler-McQueen. It was not clear what accompanying move would be made to free up a practice squad slot for Lambert. But with cornerback Kevin Dockery sidelined again with a hamstring injury, it's possible Marquis Johnson could be promoted to the active roster — as was the case last month.

Also on Tuesday, former Rams cornerback Quincy Butler paid a free-agent visit and took a physical but was not signed.

    Rams Announce Practice Squad
    by sanches
    http://www.stlouisrams.com/article/50794/

One day after trimming their roster to 53 and trading a former first-round draft choice, the Rams began to fill out the roster for their other team, the practice squad.

St. Louis added seven players to the practice squad Sunday. Every player on that roster spent the preseason with the Rams and was brought back.

The following players were signed to the practice squad Sunday afternoon: Defensive tackle Jeremy Calahan, receivers Jeremy Carter and Dominique Thompson, center Toby Cecil, defensive end Clifford Dukes, tackle Matt Morgan and cornerback Duvol Thompson.

Calahan, Carter, Thompson and Cecil all made it to the final round of cuts before being released yesterday. Morgan, Dukes and Thompson were let go in the first round of cuts last week.

The practice squad maximum is eight players so the Rams could add one more in the coming days after getting a chance to scan the waiver wires.

KATRINA RELIEF: The efforts of the players’ wives and the Quarterback Club helped raise over $70,000. The groups collected donations all day Friday to help with the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.

The final total will be announced later this week....
