    Rams Practice Notes Sept 7
    by Brian Stull

Marc Bulger again took only snaps out of the shotgun, a precaution as Steve Spagnuolo shared the plan is to wait until Wednesday before Bulger moves under center.

There could be a couple of more targets to throw to by then, as Spags acknowledged the Rams are thin at WR, and could add another to the practice squad.

Sean Walker is currently the only WR on the practice squad.

While Adam Carriker is understandably upset with being out for the season with shoulder surgery, John Greco is breathing a sigh of relief that the pin inserted into his left wrist should only keep him out of action for two-three weeks.

Richie Incognito was full go in practice and said the time off for a mild knee sprain was actually a blessing in disguise to rest up before the start of the season.

Samkon Gado and Leonard Little also had full practices. Spagnulo stated they were being over-cautious with Craig Dahl (day-to-day) in keeping him out, and while Larry Grant is still day-to-day, he was out and will not play in Seattle.

No decision has been made on the starting RT, although Jason Smith did get some work there today.

im going to be pissed if we drafted a left tackle # two overall, then gets
put to right tackle only to loss the job to someone else.

Beer, we drafted a raw, but major upside tackle. If he doesn't start that doesn't mean that he's a bust, it means that he's raw, and not quite ready to start. Big deal. I'm sure by the end of the season, he'll be the starting right tackle, which I see as possibly his best position, given that he's a better run blocker than a pass protector from what I have seen and heard. Jason Smith will impress you by the end of the year, I guarantee it.

So Wednesday we'll hopefully hear that Bulger is having NO problems with taking snaps from under center.

It's good to see Gado in full practice mode. He's a gamer, no doubt about that.

the bulger situation is still looking to be a problem when they said he was only going ot be out 2 weeks . . . it made me wonder how long this injury really going to affect his play and he still has not taken a snap from under center worries me
              Torry Holt Dont play that

Rotoworld reported about Bulger not having taken snaps under center, and said that a shotgun only offense is better than starting Kyle Boller at QB.

                il have to agree.

If Bulger can only take snaps out of the shotgun its not a massive deal. I just hope he doesnt reinjure his finger if he tries to take a snap from under center

Not that I think that Bulger will have any need to run a shotgun only offense, but I wonder how well Jackson can catch the shotgun snap and how well Jason Brown can direct the ball off to the side a little for him to get the direct snap in a "WildJax" trick snap?

Thanks for calming me down. Im just use to this team drafting really bad.

I need to give it some time.

It was a freak thing to happen...I'm not too worried with Bulger going back under center.

Jason Brown and MB must be practicing and working overtime. I too say that they'll be fine. :helmet:

It must be interesting to see how much attention is always given to a pro sports player (Bulger) that is ailing and/or not 100% functional. Doctors, trainers. Coaches. All looking forward to improving the health of the player, giving them the best there is in medical technology and know-how. These are multi-million dollar men we're talking about...

May our boys be ready indeed. GO RAMS!

St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger injured the pinkie finger on his right (passing) hand during this morning’s practice at training camp. Bulger left practice briefly, then returned but didn’t participate in the drills. Kyle Boller ran the first-team offense.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo said he didn’t believe the injury was serious, but the finger will be X-rayed. Bulger did throw some on the side after returning to practice.

                              Notes & quotes:

*The morning practice was held indoors as storms pounded Earth City this morning. As of now, the afternoon practice, which starts at 1:25, is scheduled to take place outside.

*The players were in full pads, but there was no live tackling.

*As Spagnuolo promised, Jason Smith and Adam Goldberg took a few reps at left tackle. Both had been working almost exclusively on the right side.

*John Greco did some work at left guard. He has been lining up mostly at right guard.

*FB Mike Karney participated fully for the first time since spraining his ankle two weeks ago.

*Barring a late surge in ticket sales, Friday night’s home preseason game vs. Atlanta will not sell out and thus won’t be televised locally.

All for now . . . more following the afternoon practice.

                              St. Louis Post-Dispatch

On a day when coach Steve Spagnuolo dialed back the hitting, going without a live-tackling session for the first time since the second day of St. Louis Rams training camp, the first fight of the preseason broke out. The combatants Monday morning were tight end Billy Bajema and safety James Butler, who apparently felt that Bajema hit him too low. A few punches were thrown, but no damage was done.

“I’d rather not have it, because it slows down practice,” Spagnuolo said. “But I understand it, because we are getting some hard, physical work done. It got defused pretty quick.”

                              Notes & quotes:

*Spagnuolo confirmed that WR Donnie Avery has a stress fracture in his left foot and is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks.

*At this time, the Rams aren’t planning to bring in another WR, Spagnuolo said. But that could change.

*DE Leonard Little (neck) suited up but didn’t take part in team work. Victor Adeyanju took over his spot on the left side with the first team.

*S Craig Dahl (hamstring) and DT Adam Carriker (ankle) remained out. FB Mike Karney (ankle) again was limited to individual drills.

*For the second consecutive day, rookie James Laurinaitis took all the reps at MLB with the first unit, and Chris Draft lined up at SLB.

*Rookie CB Bradley Fletcher picked off a pass from Brock Berlin in 11-on-11s and returned it to the end zone.

*T Jason Smith, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, had a rough time in one-on-one line drills. Smith is adjusting to the right side after playing LT at Baylor.

All for now . . . more following the afternoon practice.

Former University of Illinois fullback Russ Weil has been signed to the Rams’ practice squad. Others re-signed are defensive end C.J. Ah You, running back Lance Ball, offensive lineman Dustin Fry, linebacker Marc Magro, wide receiver Derek Stanley and cornerback Darius Vinnett.

The eighth spot will go to safety Eric Bassey once cornerback Ricky Manning Jr. signs his contract today.

All the practice squad members were in training camp with the Rams.

I really like it. Bassey and Vinnett are good special teamers. Magro is a pretty good LB, Frye...well I havent lost hope on him, Ah You is a good practice squad guy, Im happy Weil is here, and the only people I would really be upset if they werent on here...Stanley and Ball, are!
