Rams add wide receiver. . .to practice squad
    By Jim Thomas
    St. Louis Post-Dispatch

All signs point to the St. Louis Rams holding firm at just four wide receivers on the active roster for Week 1 of the regular season. The team signed wide receiver Nate Jones to their practice squad Tuesday, but made no additions to the active roster.

The first-year player from Texas was on the Rams’ 53-man roster for one day over the weekend, until he and linebacker Quinton Culberson were released to make room for the waiver-wire additions of safety Anthony Smith and defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey.

Defensive end Ian Campbell was dropped from the practice squad to make room for Jones.

Heck, they've brought in so many recently, I'm due at Rams Park next week. I got hands but you could clock my 40 with a sun dial.

I will peg you as the backup long snapper. Considering they are brave enough to go with only 4 wr's, why not twist it up a little?

Might even get a carry or two if Massey goes down, since we only have 4 RB's on the roster!

I hear Lance Rentzell is in great shape if all else fails.

This is weird...I think we should worry about injuries seeming how both Avery and Burton have been injured before....but I trust the team.

scott..you mean during the Seattle game im guessing..

if one of our 4 goes down during the game..my guess is they will switch Fells over to WR, for when they want to play 4 WR sets that is..
i think we will be fine with 4 for the 1st week..for the season i think we need and will get that 5th WR from somewhere..but it will have to be someone who is an upgrade over Nate Jones or they will just promote him from the PS.

although our 4 WR`s are all young and have only played in the NFL for a relatively short period of time...every one of them has missed some games through injury..so it is a concern..but i have faith in Billy D and Spags..im sure they have a plan they are currently working on to address the need.
they just not doing it this week due to the fact that theyd have to invest a years salary in that player, regardless of if he performs well enough to keep his roster spot or not..where as if they pick up someone in week 2 they dont.

I have faith in them as well, it just seems odd to me that they would enter the season with only 4 WR

If we plan on splitting out 5 wide, I can assure you that Jax will be one of them, so in all, you only really need 4 guys, but that's still a worry in case of injury. I would imagine that we'll be looking at picking up someone that's dropped from Philly or Arizona(both holding onto seven WR's at the moment) either right after they're dropped, or more likely, have them in for a test on Tuesday and signed after that.
                    I believe!:ram:

                      Practice Squad Announced!
                      by chipperjones
Former University of Illinois fullback Russ Weil has been signed to the Rams’ practice squad. Others re-signed are defensive end C.J. Ah You, running back Lance Ball, offensive lineman Dustin Fry, linebacker Marc Magro, wide receiver Derek Stanley and cornerback Darius Vinnett.

The eighth spot will go to safety Eric Bassey once cornerback Ricky Manning Jr. signs his contract today.

All the practice squad members were in training camp with the Rams.

All for now . . . more following this afternoon’s practice.

                      Post Dispatch

I really like it. Bassey and Vinnett are good special teamers. Magro is a pretty good LB, Frye...well I havent lost hope on him, Ah You is a good practice squad guy, Im happy Weil is here, and the only people I would really be upset if they werent on here...Stanley and Ball, are!

                      Rams Announce Practice Squad

One day after trimming their roster to 53 and trading a former first-round draft choice, the Rams began to fill out the roster for their other team, the practice squad.

St. Louis added seven players to the practice squad Sunday. Every player on that roster spent the preseason with the Rams and was brought back.

The following players were signed to the practice squad Sunday afternoon: Defensive tackle Jeremy Calahan, receivers Jeremy Carter and Dominique Thompson, center Toby Cecil, defensive end Clifford Dukes, tackle Matt Morgan and cornerback Duvol Thompson.

Calahan, Carter, Thompson and Cecil all made it to the final round of cuts before being released yesterday. Morgan, Dukes and Thompson were let go in the first round of cuts last week.

The practice squad maximum is eight players so the Rams could add one more in the coming days after getting a chance to scan the waiver wires.

KATRINA RELIEF: The efforts of the players’ wives and the Quarterback Club helped raise over $70,000. The groups collected donations all day Friday to help with the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.

The final total will be announced later this week....

                      Rams complete practice squad
                      By Bill Coats
                      St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The St. Louis Rams have completed their eight-man practice squad, adding running back Chris Ogbonnaya and defensive end Bryan Smith.

Ogbonnaya was the Rams’ seventh-round draft pick in April. He was cut Saturday, unclaimed on waivers, and re-signed. Smith, 6-2 and 250, was drafted by the Eagles in the third round last year out of McNeese State. He was on their 53-man roster last year but was among the inactives for every game.

Ogbonnaya and Smith join cornerback Cord Parks, tight end Eric Butler, linebackers K.C. Asiodu and Dominic Douglas, defensive end Ian Campbell and wide receiver Sean Walker in making up the Rams’ practice squad.

The Rams added seven players to their practice squad Sunday night and Monday morning, including five players who have been in St. Louis and a couple of new additions from other teams.
The practice squad in its current state includes: cornerback Marquis Johnson, linebacker Curtis Johnson, linebacker Mortty Ivy, center Drew Miller, tackle Ryan McKee, receiver Brandon McRae and receiver Danario Alexander.
Marquis Johnson, Miller, McKee, McRae and Alexander spent all or part of training camp with the Rams.
Ivy comes to St. Louis from Carolina, where he was on the Panthers practice squad last season after he came into the league as an undrafted rookie in 2009.
Curtis Johnson played his college football at Clark University in Atlanta and signed with Indianapolis as an undrafted rookie in 2008. He played seven games for the Colts that year before moving on to Dallas last season.
The Rams have room for one more player on their practice squad. That move will likely be made in the next day or two.
