The St. Louis Rams snapped their 0-4 start last year by beating the Redskins 19-17 on a 49-yard Josh Brown field goal with two seconds to go. The victory, in Jim Haslett’s first game as interim head coach, came at FedEx Field — the site of this Sunday’s game.
Reeling after an inelegant 28-0 loss at Seattle in their season-opener, the Rams might be happy to visit a site of past success.
Not really, quarterback Marc Bulger said.
“It’s a whole new year, they have new guys and we have a lot of new guys,” he explained. “I think it’s two new teams and the ’09 season. We can’t look back at all.”
Bulger also emphasized that last Sunday’s debacle has been washed away.
“We don’t have time to be down,” he said. “There are 15 more of these games. We have one Sunday. We’re 0-1, and we’re not going to look backward. We’re looking right now just at the Redskins. We’re an 0-1 team, we have to get our first win, and that’s all we’re focused on.”
Notes & quotes:
*Coach Steve Spagnuolo liked how the team, which was in full pads, worked Wednesday in its first practice of the week. “They came out like I thought they would, which was eager to get back and get ready for another game,” he said. “Because that’s all you can do, is get ready to play the next game.”
*S Craig Dahl (hamstring) and G John Greco (wrist) did some individual work.
*LB James Laurinaitis, who bruised his knee Sunday, took part in all the drills.
*The newest Rams, WR Ruvell Martin and LB Paris Lenon, were on the field Wednesday. Spagnuolo is unsure whether either, or both, might play Sunday. “That’s the challenge,” he noted. “We’ve only got so many days to get them ready.”
*This week’s captains are Bulger (offense), DE James Hall (defense) and P Donnie Jones (special teams).
*After Week 1, the Rams rank 25th in total offense and 27th in total defense. And, of course, they’re 32nd in scoring.
All for now . . .
