at first it looks like no ones strips it and burleson just drops the ball but in a replay you can see james's hand slide under burleson's arm and punch it out
There is absolutely ZERO question that Laurinaitis stripped the ball and caused the fumble. Witherspoon hit him first, then Atogwe, THEN James made the play. You will never see a more clear replay. After the play, look at who is getting all the pats on the back by the Rams players, they know who caused it.
Official stats are often incorrect, then later changed. Why anyone would claim Witherspoon stripped the ball is beyond me. Maybe they don't care. The official scorers are NUTS!
Yeah, I watched just Witherspoon on the play and he didn't even touch the ball, let alone strip it. I think the big bad NFL just doesn't want to look bad by admitting they were wrong to a fan.
In a sharply worded retort, the Elias Sports Bureau adamantly defended its decision to award a Week 1 forced fumble to Rams linebacker Will Witherspoon instead of James Laurinaitis. Elias denied allegations that this decision was made to diminish Laurinaitis' chances of becoming the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Week. "Such accusations are downright absurd," stated Review Committee chair Jay Maualuga, speaking on behalf of fellow committee members Sharon Curry and Myron Cushing.

Jay Maualuga wouldn't be related to Ray Maualuga, would he? Conspiracy theorists wonder. ;)
If we believe in the Spags team concept, I think this one is a good example of the good things that happen when these guys work together. And, equally important if not more so, how quickly it can be wasted by a lack of team cohesion and individual mistakes; see the futile drive that followed.
I bet Lau would have traded credit he obviously deserved on the turnover for a score on that ensuing drive. And I have no problem with Spoon getting the credit because he made the initial contact & WENT FOR THE TACKLE, at least slowing the WR so Atogwe could soften the guy's grip and allow the late-arriving Lau to pick the ripe pigskin plum. It was a gift bought by Spoon, prettily-wrapped by OJ,imo.
That is team football, imo. A turnover is obviously always a good thing but it quickly loses importance in the grand scheme of things if you don't capitalize on it & becomes this amusing chat fodder/moral victory.
Would the individual that saw Jim Everett cause the fumble please step forward and tell me what you saw? I also felt it might have been Jimbo ...
I think the only fumble that might be credited to Everett, other than his own, of course, would be when he tackled that interviewer and caused the douche to drop the contents of his bladder and/or rectum.
Many believe that was staged; a phantom fight ,if you will, but I like to think otherwise. I'd have hated to be the zebra who had to check the guy's pants for the ,um, spot of the ,um,foul, though.

nah, that wasn't staged. it was that blowhard jim rome doing the interviewing. he's got a long track record of not only being a complete ****, but also intentionally trying to rile up his guests.... jimbo was not the 1st, nor the last interviewee to get that type of treatment.
