  • 10 Things That Will And Won't Happen If The Rams Are Sold In The Next 6 Months

If the Rams are sold in the next 6 months:

    1. The new owner(s) will look to make a big splash in FA.
    2. The team won't be moved to a new city.
    3. The new owner(s) will push to draft a marquee QB in Round 1 of the draft.
    4. Marc Bulger won't be released until the new QB is ready to take over.
    5. Steve Spagnuolo and Bill Devaney will be retained.
    6. Lower positions, such as OC, won't be set in stone.
    7. The stadium will be upgraded again.
    8. Plans to build a new stadium won't be announced.
    9. The media will overspeculate and overanalyze
    10. The change of ownership won't make or break the team in the short run.

I agree, but where will the money come from?
    2. The team won't be moved to a new city.
Try to convince the rumor mill of this.
    3. The new owner(s) will push to draft a marquee QB in Round 1 of the draft.
Agreed. I like Bulger, but I think a change of scenery is what he needs to return to his former self.
    4. Marc Bulger won't be released until the new QB is ready to take over.
Hmmmm, not sure I completely agree...
    5. Steve Spagnuolo and Bill Devaney will be retained.
    This is a given.
    6. Lower positions, such as OC, won't be set in stone.
    No explanation needed.
    7. The stadium will be upgraded again.
While I thought it was relly nice, it was my first visit there.
Even I saw some things that could be "touched up".
    8. Plans to build a new stadium won't be announced.
I'd guess 2012, then it will be across the river in Illinois.
    9. The media will overspeculate and overanalyze.
    Just like every other day...;)
    10. The change of ownership won't make or break the team in the short run.
My question is what do you define as the "short term"? One year, five years, while I still have hair...?

I hope, whether it be these owners or the new ones, that we actually try to sign some big name guys from free agency.

      LETS GO RAMS!

Free Agency is a joke now a days. Only a few impact players really move and usually those are surprise fits like Darren Sharper in New Orleans. How well are the big splashes of Nate Washington and Hanesworth going over in Tennessee and Washington, hmm? I'd be the first to say that Jason Brown is an infinitely better pickup for us that Hanesworth will be for Washington.

        In DeSpags I trust
        I believe!:ram:

While part of me likes the sound of that another part doesn't.

I don't want a Jones or a Schneider to come in here and force players on Devaney and Spags.

If Devaney and Spags want the big name free agents than by all means go after them but in my opinion it should be their team to build for the next three years.

I agree maybe I should have rephrased that. I think they should pick up people from free agency wether it be big name guys or not. It seem slike all this team really wants to do is breed young talent lol. I'm not asking for a Haynseworth type of pick up everytime, but lets "test the waters".

Interesting although not necessarily significant; JT & Bernie like to make themselves sound like insiders when it ain't usually so- that Thomas, in his Chat this week, "took the fifth" when asked about Checketts being involved in a possible sale.

And ,if JT's data is correct-another pound of salt prescribed there-a lot of dead money will be off the books next year so The Rams will make a splash of some description next year regardless of the owner situation.

Imo, the clock is already ticking quietly for Shurmur. Darby, Gado, Fells, and Avery seem to me to have been neglected/ misused by Uncle Fritz's kid. All of them are Devaney guys & Shurmur isn't exactly making him look good.

I hold no torch for a return to LA but I'm a little sickened by the lack of St Louis fan support in comparison with other cities with teams that have struggled. Of course, the organization has to be blamed in part for that & the economy, etc.

Question for the Clan bash contingent: what was the atmosphere like at The GB game? Any interaction with the local fanbase? Stadium vibe, etc? The noise didn't seem to be that significant on the telecast.

It was the loudest I heard in a long time. There was a little buzz/vibe going on after we scored our first TD but going into the 2nd half and the long pass plays that we were burned on the vibe was gone. The fans still tried to rally the team on but yet another long passing play that burned the defense quieted us down.

I agree, free agency is very overrated, how did the Drew Bennett experiment work out,Jacob Bell is another one where the jury is still out, I think this team needs so many good players that the draft or should I say good drafts are the best way to turn this around.

you guys gotta consider that different people are involved now than those who selected our free agency busts in the past..we actually have a pro personell scout these days..something we didnt have for 9 years previously!

the previous regime acted like they got their player ratings off Madden and didnt look atall into how those players would fit into our team plans of the time.

Well, I think that's why they picked guys like Jason Smith, Laurinaitis, and Chris Long. These guys aren't stars...the Rams don't need stars right now. That's like serving caviar with Spaghetti-O's. These were guys that all had their heads on straight. Long and Laurinaitis come from athlete fathers that had plenty of money. You don't have to worry about them getting rich and fat. Jason Smith, while not as glamorous as Sanchez or Crabtree, was very grounded and seemed like he wanted to work hard to be the best he could.

Adding a star quality guy to this team wouldn't be any different than having Steven Jackson. It's a waste of a good player sitting on your roster while they retool the entire team around them. Instead, the Rams went for the safer, and more boring picks, to serve as a foundation for the team's rebuilding effort. You could build a 4000 sq ft house, but if you build in on straw...it'll come down. Be patient.
