  • Niner fan here. Let's talk shop.

    Hey guys.

I am a regular poster on forums.*****.com under the name benton45, and thought I would swing by to say a few things.

First of all, here is to an injury free game, and a good contest.

I am not here to talk crap, let me clarify that from the start.

I grew up about an hour from Candlestick and am now in Phoenix, and suffice it to say the Cardinals fans seem to forget that their ****, in fact, does stink. It can get frustrating.

My uncle John has been a Rams fan since the 50's and we love the matchups. Every year we bet on the games and watch them together. It is a fun time.

I do not know much about your team this year. Not to sound rude, but they were not a team that I felt it necessary to familiarize myself with. With the rebuild I see you guys going through personnel just like any rebuilding team does.

The Niners are playing some tough ball this year. I have been proud and fairly surprised at the level of intensity of which they play.

With that being said, we are still one step from being a force in the league as far as I am concerned. This game is very big one for the Niners IMO, because it will show how they handle a tough loss..and a victory would make us 3-0 in the division through week 1. A loss, however, would be demoralizing as it would be 2 in a row..and (no offense) against an inferior squad.

I heard that one of your starting receivers broke his leg.. Sorry to hear. I never like to see a guy get seriously hurt. I also know Bulger got hurt, but am not sure of his status. Is he playing? If not, how has Boller looked?

We dont have Gore, as I am sure you know, which could really hurt us.

Anyways. I am sorry for being so long winded. Hopefully we can have some good chat before, during and after the game.

I promise, as a sportsman, if you guys beat us on sunday I will be here shortly after the game to pay my penence.

        no kidding?

I moved out here about a year ago from California (livermore specifically) to go back to school and go to GCC. I live off of 59th and olive.. very close to you.

I wish the game was on tv here. I will either end up meeting a fellow Niner fan in Avondale or going to Gallagher's on 67th and Peoria.

If I head to Gallagher's you should swing by. It would be cool to watch with someone.

Welcome. I live in the SF Bay Area so I've had a little more exposure to SF this year than some. I think your D is finally coming together . It's the 3rd year with the same DC/system, right?

Other than Gore, I haven't been overly impressed with the O and even the big game vs The Hags was a bit tainted by all the injuries on Seattle, imo.

The Rams are seriously banged up on the OL, esp at OT but the interior line is improved from last year, esp with a new center Jason Brown (FA from Balt). Very green/sophomore-slumping at WR but not without speed & potential in Avery and Burton.Like Vernon Davis, our 2nd TE Fells finally showed up in the EZ last game so he might be a name to look for. And yes, our most productive WR so far is out for the year.

Expect to see a heavy dose of Jackson who has been getting better each game behind our new FB Karney but QB Boller is more mobile than Bulger so we hope he may be able to improv a bit more effectively at least. I'm hoping we try the screens/swings that AZ used so well with Hightower once the LBs get sucked in to try and stop SJ up the gut.

We also have health issues on D. Safety James Butler is out with a knee & he was the most experienced guy in our new system.

Pass rush has been weak but showed signs of life vs GB-Little had 2 sacks- & the run D has generally been better but still prone to allowing the occasional big play. I don't think it will be a big day for Coffee although I like his potential.

Our MLB, Laurinaitis, is a promising rookie & he played well in the first game but has tapered off quite a bit in part due to nagging injuries. We're not even sure who will be at SLB due to a suspension.

The corners are just as green as the WRs except for Bartell who is also dinged but probable. Safety Atogwe is a ballhawk & playing well. I'm sure Hill will be aware of him on every play. I hope not but Singletary's no dummy.

In the end, this could either be a "trap' game for SF or a blowout. Hard to say. There's enough talent to make SF pay for looking past The Rams; we have played better at times than the scores/stats would indicate but inconsistency is the hallmark of this young squad with injuries ripping through paper-thin depth and new coaches/schemes.

Here's to an injury-free game that ends in a bitter Whiner loss. LOL

I see it as a possible trap game...Although I do not see Singletary allowing that.

Honestly, I think Gore is terribly overrated. I love him and his ethics as a ballplayer, but don't think he is THAT dangerous.

I was very impressed with VD last week especially, and in general with Sing at the helm. Mikey has changed this mans attitude. I think VD will emerge as one of the best TEs in the game.

Jackson is running well. With all due respect though, the niners pretty much contained the best RB in the game....possibly of the last decade (save LT and Faulk in their haydeys). I dont see SJ as a threat....I do have him on my fantasy team..but am gonna sit him because I have faith in the Niners D..and because it is sac religious to start him this week.

Good post...good luck this week. Although I hope we destroy you, I also hope you guys can make some progress and take something positive out of the game.

Lets hope for no injuries..as we both stated, and a good season/game.

BTW...although I have only gotten a few responses I really respect the sportsmanship on this board. You guys come off as a very classy fanbase.

              welcome Benton,
we have a couple of ***** fans that pop by from time to time...BrainDaddy being the one that probably frequents the site the most..
my closest friend of nearly 30 years is a life-long ***** fan...so as usual its a contest we both are hyped up for long before it begins...

you guys got more vet`s who have played together longer ..so you "should" win...a HC who has been with the team longer than our HC.. so you "should" win...

but alas..anything can happen on any given sunday...

here`s to a good contest with no serious injuries on either team.

              Go Rams!:helmet:

YAY!!!!!!!!!! A 9ers fan that can say something besides "We gots 5 rings!" I love it!

In all seriousness, this should be a doozy. I see a low scoring game, because both defenses are showing life, while both offenses are still trying to find "it".

I'd say no more than 23 combined points, and won't predict a score because there really hasn't been anything to convince me either way which direction to swing it in. I hope to finally see a "W", but we'll have to wait and see.

The thing we agree on most: NO BIG INJURIES!!!!!!!!!!! Please, for the love of GOD, NO BIG INJURIES!!!!!!!!!

Benton is a good guy. It is funny how bad that board is trashing this board. The lack of members here stopping in there to even wish them good luck is very telling.

                    whats up bob?

this board seems nicer than the .com board. Maybe the midwest is more laid back or something.

Friday nights are the worst this time of year.

Nothing to do until sunday, and it's all you can think about.

Too bad every movie in theaters is sucky right now..can't wait for Zombieland.

What are you guys doing for the game?

It's not televised here so I am either going to meet someone from the Niner board that lives close by or go to the local sportsbar to watch it.

I thought about flying up tomorrow and getting tickets off craigslist.

I could stay at my dads house in the Bay Area and take him to the game, but decided that I didnt want to spend 400 bucks to go to this specific game.

I'll be there.. 13 rows behind Rams bench on the 40 yd line, I was supposed to be 3 rows back but the tix fell through.. Look for me i'll be wearing the Faulk jersey, look for the only blue jersey surrounded by red. Hopefully i can get an autograph or two.. I'll atleast get some good pics to show everybody...

                              Go Rams.

Tired of being a Rams fan
                                by ljcrayton
I'm not a bandwagon fan. I am from the STL and I root for the Rams because as a kid, it was the talk around town. Everywhere you turned, it was all about the LA Rams moving to STL. We were happy to have a football team and were hoping if they were anything like our Cardinals, it was going to be on helluva ride.

4 years later, something magical happened. I was only in the 8th grade and our hometown was scared when Trent Green went down. They thought no one would watch or buy tickets. So believe it or not, dominoes stepped in. They made a deal when Kurt Warner was named starter that they would take a dollar off for every touchdown the rams scored. I remember the second week of the season, they scored 5 TD's and a pizza was 2 bucks.

Unless something like this happens, I no longer have a reason to watch football. I know some of you older fans are thinking this younger generation gives up to easy but lets be serious.

In 2010, we had a chance to get to the playoffs. All we had to do was go 8-8 and we couldn't do it. Our division was the laughing stock. All teams made changes and let me see....The Whiners and Seahawks are in the talk every year about the Superbowl and the Cardinals won 10 games and are now leading our division and look at the Rams.

We have an old school minded coach who seems to get out coached in every game unless he pulls out some special teams tricks. This is an offensive league period. All defensive minded coaches are looking terrible and Fisher is no exception to the rule. His overall record as a coach is barely over .500. What in the blue hell was he supposed to do in STL?

I am officially ashamed to be a Rams fan. I haven't touched my Jerseys, my Rams snuggy, my giant sign that reads "Rams Drive," or my Rams coffee cup. I have a co worker that's a Whiner fan and another that's a Cardinals fan and I find myself leaving and actually doing work when football is mentioned. (Doesn't help my boss is a Cowboys fan....)

People actually feel sorry for me when I say I'm a Rams fan. They genuinely look sorry in the face and it freaking sucks. 5 years ago, I was still having hope even at 2-14. Now, I've just given up. The Rams is just a bunch of excuses with a coach who "can't get with the times."

You can talk about the Jags or Raiders all you want but we are the worst. We were in the same situation as the Whiners, Cardinals, and Seahawks and in the EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF TIME AND 3 EXTRA 1ST ROUND PICKS we are the same pathetic team and they are all playoff worthy.

ENOUGH OF THIS CRAP! No more optimism. We've been waiting for 11 years for this mysterious thing called "next season" but in the end, next season ends up being last season over and over and over and over and over and over again. Seems like STL is where football players go to die. Tavon Austin needs to leave so he can...

Hey guys, I just wanted to say good game. Don't get your heads down, I know it's tough to swallow a loss like this (Trust me, I really do, we were 0-4 in games decided by three points or less prior to today) but you guys are greatly improved over last year. There is still no reason you can't make playoffs. Oh, and for the record, as a 49er fan, even I know that PI call was bull ****. Today was full of ****ty penalties, but what can you expect with Hochuli as ref?

So again, good game to you guys, and I have to say, it's incredible how much better you guys look as opposed to last year.

I debated with myself if I should post this. Surely some of the so called "fans" that have given up on the Rams will have some sort of witty reply. However, I've felt an overwhelming urge to post something.

The Rams are in a sorry state right now. The front office is making bad decisions, the coach doesn't seem up to the job, our defense is unable to hold it together for an entire game, and our front line isn't protecting the Q-Back making him nervous and unable to find a rhythm.

A lot is wrong. But what is right is that the Rams are my team, and for a lot of you on this board, your team as well. Fans have the right to complain and want something better, but a fan should also stick with them and look at the positives no matter how few there seem to be at this particular moment. Contrary to a lot of you, based on the posts I've been reading, I could reluctantly accept another terrible season and another after that and another after that. No, I don't like the abuse and I do want something more, but I stick by my team no matter the outcome.

I don't expect everyone to feel the same way and I know that everyone reacts differently. But what I see, as bad as things seem, is a slight improvement from week 1 to week 2. This is what keeps me going. And I do think the team looked slightly better this week. Even if they play even worse next week, I'll still be here and still be a fan, because there is always hope. And when a team is down, this is what makes a fan. And the true test of a fan at that.

People with different opinions are welcome on this board is far as I'm concerned. That is what sparks good debate and what could help me something that I wouldn't see otherwise. But when someone becomes so negative that the only thing that comes out of their mouth (fingers?) is down right hatred and they are only sticking around here to spread that hatred. And by their own admission, are no longer a fan and unwilling to follow the team. Well, that's your decision and I support it, but why do you stick around here and continue posting such garbage? Do you feel a need to try and convince more people to join your Anti-Rams social club?

I applaud the fans that are sticking behind their team in these bad times. I even applaud the unhappy ones that are overwhelmed with anger, but still hold out a glimmer of hope and remain a fan.

Even more so, to the Rams themselves (not that they are listening), but I support you 100%, even in this bad time. You are my team and I stand behind you, just as I would a member of my family. Good times and bad.

                                what gives you the right??

I am curious....and don't mean ANY offense to any person. I really am looking for just reasons and what makes you tick. So if you take things personal...don't read on.

I have been watching this board close the last couple of days and who is here "lurking", reading and who is posting and how long some names stay and check back in. And let me tell you...there are a lot of names that I haven't seen in a long time. There are ones that have posted a few times in the past and then fell off the face of the earth...now you come back? What gives?? Really people....what kind of fan are you?

I just don't get so many people. Do you love the Rams or do you just look for the free ride? Why should any other fan give you respect? For that matter why should the Rams give you respect?

I just don't get it. Maybe it is just me and how passionate I am for this team. Maybe I care too much.

I just find it strange how people can turn it on and off at will.

Would be interested in everyone's take

There are no two words guaranteed to stir the pot and enrage followers of a certain team like the words "True Fan". When one's loyalty is questioned or someone accuses someone else of being "less a fan" because they don't agree with them on a variety of issues, it is the equivalent of hitting below the belt. When phrases like "See Ya", "Don't let the Door hit you in the ***", Goodbye and Good Riddance" are thrown about, it is both insulting and juvenile.

I submit to you the following scenarios:

                                1. A guy decides to avoid being a slave to the television each Sunday and do something constructive instead of watching bad football. He chooses to play with his kids, do yard work, go to the gym or whatever. Can he no longer call himself a Rams fan?
                                2. A guy decides to cancel his NFL ticket package because he doesn't want to pay good money for the "privilege" of being ticked off during Rams football in light of their 6 wins over the past three seasons. Is he no longer a true fan?
                                3. A guy with Rams season tickets decides to give his tickets away/ sell at a reduced rate and not go to the games. Is he no longer a "True Rams Fan"?
                                4. A guy pays $100.00 to go see the Rams on the road. The team is down 38-0 AT THE HALF. He elects to go home with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter to resist the urge of killing idiot home fans while watching a non-effort. Is he no longer a true fan? (By the way, this was me at last yrs. Rams-Jets disaster- the worst football game this franchise has ever played).
                                5. Absolutely sick to death from losing and not having anything to cheer about, a fan rips the team and/or individual players/management on this forum or elsewhere. He is more negative than positive because there is much more negative than positive happening on the field, and it is his way to vent. Is he now considered less of a fan?

I'm sorry, but in my opinion, if you answered anything other than "NO" to any of the above, you have it wrong. As far as I'm concerned, everyone on this board is a true fan for coming on here and commenting on this weekly gut ache called Rams football.

                                Wondering what you think-
