  • Vikings lineman fined for shove on Rams Gibson

The NFL has fined Minnesota offensive tackle Artis Hicks $5,000 for unecessary roughness for shoving St. Louis Rams defensive tackle Gary Gibson on a play that ended Gibson’s season with a broken ankle.
“I don’t go out there thinking I’m going to hurt anyone,” Hicks told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “But people get hurt. It’s part of the game. It’s unfortunate.”
Hicks shoved Gibson during a 47-yard pass completion in the third quarter of last Sunday’s game at the Edward Jones Dome, which was won by the Vikings 38-10. There was no penalty called on the play.

It's good that the NFL saw it, but its not that much of a fine.

Someone else said it before...this is how it works:

A dirty play against a bad team = a fine the next week.

A dirty play against a good team = a 15 yard penalty and a first down.

I just looked it up and apparently the fines collected by the league are used to support the NFLPA. This is according to NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello.

So the vikings lineman loses 5000 dollars for injuring a guy so bad he has to miss the rest of the season? It was a blatant cheap shot on a Rams player. Wonder how much the fine would have been if the injured player was a high profile star?

Forget all the closed threads currently on the front page.

This thread alone sums up the Rams season and current politics in the NFL.

Sometimes working under the direction of Tom Brady, who not only has NFL rules created for his benefit, but also apparantly has the power to instruct Mr. Official when it is appropriate to call a penalty, on the opposition of course. Definitely a nice perk for he and the Patriots.

Re: Vikings lineman fined for shove on Rams Gibson

The NFL has fined Rams cornerback Quincy Butler ($7,500) and ***** linebacker Parys Haralson ($5,000) for separate incidents in Week 5.

Butler's fine was for unnecessary roughness during a horse collar tackle against the Vikings. Butler drew a 15-yard penalty after dragging down Vikings return specialist Percy Harvin following a 27-yard kickoff return in the second quarter.

So a horse collar tackle is 2500 more than a season ending late hit. Just more disrespect coming the rams way.
