If he doesn't improve his pass rushing skills by the end of next year then yes, he will be a bust as a 2nd overall pick in the draft. Right now, he gets the benefit of the doubt. Next year, he won't.

Q: What percentage of #2 overall draft picks play in at least 1 Pro Bowl?

Hmm, that's a toughy, HUb. But the #2 overall, that's really high, so I would say at least 85%, 90%, maybe even 95% have played in at least 1 Pro Bowl in their career.





A: 52%. That's all. Even for the #2 overall, it's a coin flip if they will ever "play at a Pro Bowl level". Again, fans, reality does not always meet expectations.

The reality of it all though HUb is that this team is stuck in losing and needs those players who are selected that high to make a significant impact on this team. Has Barron really made a significant impact on the Rams when it comes to winning? Carriker? Long? No. Not really. So in a majority of the fans eyes they are busts. I can see their point. Not to say I'm agreeing with each one, and in the case of Long the jury is still out because this is just year 2. However, after next season, if Long is still playing at this same level.....would you consider him a success? I wouldn't. Not picked 2nd in his draft.

So... if you're the second pick in the draft, and you don't make the Pro Bowl every year, then you're a bust?

Isn't there a lot of real estate between "great" and "bust"?

I don't care about the Pro Bowl, that's not a criteria for me. My slight disappointment with Long is his sack total, or lack of it. Even he said he so himself he isn't satisfied with his pass rush. I'm not calling him a bust at all this year, it's way too early. However, if after next season he hasn't improved his pass rush....then a bust still may be too much of a term because he's so good against the run but underachiever would be appropriate.
