Rams sign OT Trautwein to 53-man roster

Offensive tackle Phil Trautwein, who spent the preseason and training camp with the St. Louis Rams, has rejoined the team. The Rams signed Trautwein, a rookie from Florida, off the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad Tuesday.

The Rams cut Trautwein on Sept. 5, planning to re-sign him to their practice squad once he cleared waivers. But he was claimed instead by Cleveland, spending the first four weeks of this season on the Browns’ 53-man roster. Trautwein didn’t play in those four games, then was cut by the Browns and spent the past two weeks on their practice squad.

The Rams returned the favor Tuesday by signing Trautwein to their active roster. Wide receiver Nate Jones was cut to make room for Trautwein.

Nothing exciting. Shores up some depth again. But we let go of another receiver?...Strange..

I wanted this kid to make the team out of training camp. I think he has potential as a RT.

Hmm. If we traded Barron away I could understand....but we need a receiver.

But we're not going to the playoffs and we need to stock the best talent available, the OT is probably better than any of the available WRs.

Odd move unless there is an injury issue we don't know about? Maybe just maybe the Rams are going to seriously look at options for our tackle position post-Barron.

the Rams obviously like this kid.
he has dealt with a family tragedy during the summer when his kid sister who was a freshman at the University of South Carolina was killed in a car accident in june.
thats bound to have affected his head and performances in training camp during the summer. but often these things make you stronger in the long run and although stuff like that is far more important than anything related to football..he may become a better player the other end of the tunnel because of it.

This move could have been made in anticipation of moving Barron, which obviously didn't happen. Regardless, with some offseason conditioning and more coaching, this kid may emerge as a starting RT. Big, strong, upside.
