  • Keenan Burton will like be cut next season

Burton is suppossedly a speedster yet he does nothing in the return game.

He isn't shifty enough to make people miss. Burton quickly lost is Danny Amendola who has a huge heart.

I know WR screen are boring and don't get much, but Amendola's catch and desire gets a few yards.

Next season it is more than likely we bring in another WR.

    That gives us the following:

    These 4 are staying --
    Avery
    Gibson
    Robinson
    Amendola

With a Free agent Pick up or in the draft that gives us 5 WR's and a few guys on the outside looking in.

    They are:

    Burton, Martin, and Carter.

With Brooks Foster coming back from injury that leaves 4 guys for one spot. We also have an extra 5th round pick already so we may pick another WR up in the later rounds.

In anyone we are gonna keep Brooks Foster and that gives us 6 WR's/before draft day...

Does anyone disagree with this ???????? I doubt it ..

    Probably looking at FA

If the Rams had a true #1 receiver and a TE threat then the current WR's don't look too bad. The #1 WR, Avery in the slot #2, and Robinson out wide as the #3, plus a TE working the middle. The problem is there aren't any WR's in the draft who look like a top 5 pick (not to mention 1 or 2 where the Rams will draft). While the 2nd rd pick will be high, most #1 receivers come in the 1st round. So it will probably mean a FA signing, but I'm not sure what WR's will be FA next year.

Burton is still learning, still making mistakes, but has shown promise. It's a little early to write him off just yet. Too bad he doesn't have the benefit of an experienced mentor playing with him to help with his development.

Gibson hasn't caught a single pass as a pro or even touched the field as a Ram and you're giving him a roster spot for next year? That's interesting.

There's a long way to go before the Rams receiver corps is set for 2010.

I think you can get the #1 WR in free agency. Lance Moore of the Saints? Lee Evans?

With so many needs ranging from QB, OT, DE, WR, I'm not sure you can automatically predict a position to fill the WR in the draft. If they dump Barron, OT and QB could be the most pressing needs to fill at that point.

Burton will not be cut. That's just silly. He's a starter, his contract is locked up at a bargain price and he's got good hands.

I don't remember Burton ever being called a speedster?

            .
In terms of finding a true #1 receiver, I like Lance Moore. He has never been given the chance and often finds himself as the odd man out in a Saints offense that is packed with talent. I don't care as much for Lee Evans. He has been given a shot to be the #1 guy in Buffalo before and has always proven that he is better off as a #2 who doesn't have to deal with a team's top corner or double-coverage.

That being said, I'd take either of them, but I think Moore has the better chance to be an elite receiver.

If they hopefully upgrade the talent at WR, I cannot see Burotn being on an average NFL team, he tries hard bit get little seperation, I guess the injuries took their toll

              Amendola is a keeper as a #5 KR/PR

his 40 time was as fast as Avery's (maybe faster) and he isn't big?

of course he was a speedster...

You think we are gonna cut the guy we traded Wil Witherspoon for?

I am sure the coaching staff said, "Hey, if we trade for this kid we are probably gonna have to cut someone. Most likely Burton or Amendola".

                  no?

Since ameondola does all the little things, return game, block., slot out, I feel he will stay.

I can't believe Burton's 40 was as fast as Avery's......no way. Can someone dig out his 40?

I was always under the impression Burton was supposed to be more in the mold of His Royal Highness, the Reverand Ike Bruce.

                        No so fast

Burton's and Avery's 40 time at the combine were about the same 4.45 and 4.43 only because Avery had a pulled hamstring. Avery's times healthy were generally considered to be in the 4.25/4.3 range. And yes there is a big difference in football running a 4.3 and running a 4.45.

they both ran 4.4 's ....some say avery's hammy was pulled...

Burton is young and isn't horrible. All I am saying is if the rams have 6 or 7 recievers he seems like the one to go first.

Wrong, try again. To say they ran the same speed is a joke trying to re-write the history books.

The Rams cut Pisa for nothing. They traded Leonard for a guy, traded HIM and cut his replacement. Why not cut Gibson? They got a 5th for him and saved $5 million in cap space.

You need to re-think your arguments.

How do you see our WR corps looking by the start of the season?

What are your opinions on our WR depth chart by the time the season rolls around?

Personally, I think it will go like:

                                Wr 1: Laurent Robinson
                                Wr 2: Donnie Avery
                                Wr 3: Mardy Gilyard
                                Wr 4: Brandon Gibson
                                Wr 5: Brooks Foster
                                Wr 6: Keenan Burton

Maybe the real question is, who lines up as our #1?

Does anyone agree that we really dont need to draft a receiver early in next year's nfl draft. Not only that I think we actually are not going to be able to dress all of our quality receivers in the beginning of next year. I think the FO has done a great job picking receivers from under the radar that can have an impact on this team.

PS I would muc rather we draft a change of pace back to spell out SJ.

Bring in amani toomer someone who can at least give us a decent target for the rest of the season. Avery is injury prone and burton cannot get open...

Enough Talk about Suh/Bradford ( personally I would go BPA and Suh is it plus I think Bradford will be Avg in the NFL but thats just my opinion) let's discuss stuff about players on the team

Do you guys think we will just stay pat with the receivers we have now already and give the players one more year to pan out. Because Robinson showed flashes last year and Gibson is still really young. Not to mention if Avery could ever stay healthy he could be a solid #2 receiver.

                                Thoughts?

He helped lead us to our first win of the season with a couple of HUGE first down catches...
