  • After the bye - what I saw today:

    1. I was surprised to hear Alex Barron get called on a false start. This surprised me - I thought I was used to his jumping the gun, but he has obviously gotten better this season, or it wouldn't have caught my attention.

    2. Gibson may not be Torry Holt, but he's not a Drew Bennett either. I can see him sticking around in the NFL for a few years, a consistent player.

    3. Bulger could go 26/27, 435 yards, 6 TD's, and people on the clan will still talk about how bad he is...even though he is showing signs that he might still have his mojo.

    4. Special teams may be better, but they can still royally screw up things.

    5. Most of the fans haven't given up on the team, regardless of what you may hear elsewhere.

    6. We made a statement today. We were within a second or two of beating an UNDEFEATED team. While winning in week 1 would give us a win on an undefeated team, today we played the only NFC team I really think has a chance to make the Pats look bad. Better yet...we scared them.

    7. After today, I think 6-10 is possible.

    8. Some "fans" live to gripe...others gripe to live, and some just accept what we are given and enjoy.

    9. The entire '99 season should have been available in HD, and I should have owned a 46" LCD back then. Two seasons of the Rams in HD and I am spoiled. '99 would have been so much better if I didn't have to watch it on a 27" TV.

    10. Knowing the Rams haven't given up on the season is going to make that family trip to watch the Rams/Texans game so much better.

To respond to RamsFanSam point by point:

      1. Barron has improved some, as has the rest of the offensive line.
      2. Gibson played well- but let's reserve judgment until there is more of a body of work from which to judge.
      3. Bulger's good game today does not erase 3 years of largely terrible play when healthy. I'm happy he finally showed something, however.
      4. Special teams let us down today, but nothing compares to the weekly special teams coverage horror show under Mike Martz.
      5. Fans haven't given up, but 18 losses in the last 19 games justifies any negative feelings any Rams fan has without some clown questioning their individual loyalty (no, I am not referring to you, Sam...)
      6. We did have two weeks to prepare but we did play well. Unfortunately, it wasn't good enough. It remains to be seen if this was an aberration or whether we can duplicate it time and again.
      7. While I'm encouraged by the last two weeks, 6-10 won't happen.
      8. There's pessimism, optimism and realism. Chalk me up in the latter category.
      9. I'd watch football on a 15" black and white screen this year if it meant a good season for the Rams.
      10. Hopefully, they give you a win as a token of appreciation for your loyalty.

Did we turn the corner today?
        by PARamfan
I would like to believe with the young team we have a win against a quality opponent (we are talking the reigning world champions) will be the kick in the pants we need to FINISH strong the rest of the season seeing as FINISH is the difference in us having a winning record thus far. They finished this one albeit as scary as it can get, can we start to make the finishes look easier????

Sj39.....stepped up today and led by example
        by macrammer
A great win today for Rams and all of us suffering fans I was so happy to see SJ39 get all over his line on field and on sidelines. Telling them to pull heads out of you know where. Did you see the linemen when he was lecturing them on sidelines? They did not dare to do anything but listen!

It was also very cool to see him walking off field with thos esame guys. That is a leader!

I am so tired of this.
        by RamsFanSam
Every game this season, the Rams have looked a little bit better. Our offense looked the best it has all year, Bulger led a two-minute offense that was reminiscent of days past, Amendola is giving our return game something it has been missing for years, and our defense is stepping it up, somewhat inconsistently, but still better than it has in the past two seasons.

We went into Jacksonville today with a desire to come out with a win. It came down to the last 7 seconds before we ended up going for a tie instead of a win. Spags played it safe for a chance to win instead of gambling and possibly losing. The decision to go for three may have been the wrong one (remember Carolina in the playoffs a few years ago?) but it gave our guys something they haven't had in a long time - hope.

So what am I tired of? I'm tired of the fans who are too busy whining about Bulger (who did a great job today), fans who are complaining about our defense (who actually did a decent job) to notice that we are getting better.

Yeah, let's trade our best player. That way, we can get a RB who runs like crap - because that's all that's left in free agency. Let's bench our QB - the one who knows the plays and is really showing that he can execute once again. That way, we can start someone who can't be consistent at throwing either completions or interceptions. Let's trash the whole team - after all, it's only been six weeks, and if they haven't won us a super bowl by now, they never will.

I'm not looking at the team through rose colored glasses. I'm being realistic. The Rams are bad - no doubt about it. But the Rams of week six are far better than the Rams of week one. I didn't expect a quick turnaround. Even Spags said it will take time. Anyone who thought we'd be an NFL powerhouse by now should at least try to be realistic.

Most of us on here thought we should have won today. I'm one of them. Anyone who is whining about the effort put forth by anyone on the team today needs to watch the game again, because the game I watched showed a Rams team that fought hard for a win. Had we won the coin toss in OT...we would have had that elusive "W".

For those of you who think whining about things will make you a good fan, or will change the team, I've got news for you.

It makes you look like a fair-weather fan, and the team isn't going to change the road they are on just because you think you know the way to go.

        Dodger Breakdown after 1
        by LaRamsFanLongTime
Well the boys lost a hard fought game today that they should have won.

Jeff Kent slowing down on a ball that was obviously gonna drop stupid.

Waving in J.D Drew right behind Kent even dumber.

Getting two tagged at the plate on one hit???

Leaving Lowe in to give up two more runs when it was obvious he was done incredibly stupid.

Bringing in Penny to be our releiver?????????????????????? Not a good idea! Love the guy but if he is having back issues no way do you bring him in. Where was Sele or Tomko?? Let Braxton throw 2 innings and Dodgers would have had a much better chance.

Boob of the game? Sorry but it was Kent, he had some nice hits but he made rookie mistakes out there today. The base running error, The fielding error and just slow to the ball today. I really do not think he should still be a second baseman anymore. It is a huge hole that will be taken advantage of time and time again. He is a great hitter and I like him in the lineup I just think maybe its time to play in the outfield. Ask me who I want in his place?? I dont know Im not a baseball expert maybe drew can provide more speed and close the hole quicker.

Management I really feel lost us this game though. I think they handled the bullpen terribly today. When someone gives up 2 dingers in an inning it is time to at least get someone warming up. Lowe definatly should not have been pulled in the 4th/2 HR inning but they did not even make the call till right before he started the 6th.

Tommorow is a must win vs Glavine. I think the boys have what it takes. I really like this squad and yes I know Im too hard on Kent. I guess maybe its because of his Giant days. Too see the boys only lose by one after all the mistakes management made I feel pretty good about this series.
