  • Burton out for the season...?

Per Rotoworld......... and a knife in my side

Keenan Burton is expected to land on injured reserve after suffering a patella injury in the Rams' Week 10 loss to the Saints.
Burton went down in the first quarter when he tripped over his own feet and landed awkwardly. He'll become the third Rams wide receiver to land on IR following Laurent Robinson and Brooks Foster. Burton had 18 catches in the four games leading up to Sunday and his absence will open up more chances for rookie talent Brandon Gibson. Nov. 16 - 9:55 am et
    Source: St Louis Post-Dispatch
Just as he was starting to build some sort of repour with MB. Good for Gibson to get a chance, but I'd like to see all our WR's develop. With two should be starters inj'd this makes our teams development hold up for yet a longer time.

Rotoworld's source was the Post-Dispatch; here is what the PD said about this:

Wide receiver Keenan Burton entered Sunday's game as the Rams' leading receiver this season with 25 catches. But his season ended in the first quarter against New Orleans with a knee injury when he landed awkwardly on a Marc Bulger pass that was intercepted by Usama Young.

"It's a patella injury," Spagnuolo said. "It's a pretty (bad) injury."

Burton will become the eighth Rams player overall, and the third wide receiver, to go on the injured reserve list this season. The other wideouts on IR are Laurent Robinson and 2009 draft pick Brooks Foster.

"You can't control injuries," Spagnuolo said. "I don't get frustrated about that. Keenan Burton I love. I mean, he's stepped up to become a leader. He is a workhorse in practice. So I get disappointed for the person."

Looks like I'm off to St. Louis to try out, because who do we have left? We had four active WRs last week, so now what? This is becoming very frustrating.

I hope Ruvell Martin shows potential like Gibson. If not, maybe we really DO need to send in Showerbeers. ;)

guttin` injury news yet again...i know every team has injuries but strange how we always seem to lose players at the same positions ( i know Seattle among others teams have had this problem in the past but still...) in the recent past it has been O-linemen,TE`s, DB`s & Pisa..this year it seems to be Wideouts & D-linemen.

one thing that is playing on my mind is..how this years injuries will effect next years draft..all of our wideouts have shown good potential in their brief time with us and all apart from Gibson.."touch wood".. have been injured at some point or other..in 3 cases out for the season..
so do we trust that these guys will come back fully fit next year and ready to go...or do we go after the likes of Jordan Shipley,Blair White (both players who i like a lot) etc..outside of the first round ??

even if they came back healthy i would like us to try and get a Breaston or Moore etc..in F.A. but do we go and spend a draft pick or two on wideout prospects aswell?...i guess its too early to tell but thats what is on my mind, so i thought id share it..

With what we've seen from Gibson yesterday, and with the improvement of Avery, and the return of Robinson, I think we do not need to address the WR position in the FA and the draft. I think we will be fine by adding one more player to the corps.

                We would have (newcomer)-Robinson-Gibson-Avery-Burton-Amendola-(Martin maybe)-Foster

I'm thinking we will cut Martin to make room for Brooks Foster.

I completely agree with you. We dont need to spend money in FA or the draft at this position. But if we solidify other positions around them and on defense we can make them much better and hopefully help them stay healthy. I myself cannot wait till the draft and the start of Free Agency to see what the FO will do and im sure there will be moves this season that will put our team over the top for next year.

Is Robinson going to make it back this year?

Bummer about Burton....so many injured WRs for us. So is this a season ending injury? Career ending injury? I don't know anything about a patella injury.

I sure hope its not a career ending injury. Season-ending, I'm fine as he'll come back refreshed and rejuvenated as with Robinson.

Re: Burton out for the season...?

Without all the injuries to the WR corps this season, I doubt Burton makes the top four WRs on this team. As stated in previousl posts, he's slow and doesn't get seperation <what i've read>. It is my opinion based on what we've seen in this New Orleans game that he's at best the #4 guy on this Rams team, when they're healthy. That would be behind Gibson, Robinson, Avery. And we're not even sure where Brooks fits in yet, and Amondola has shown some flashes as well.

I am sorry to see anybody get injured, but I can not pretend he was a great player for this team and is even a starter caliber WR compared to the other WRs.

Next year I hazard a guess to project Robinson/Gibson as starters with Avery the third guy <or Hakim type>. Three WR sets next year will be vastly improved over the start of the '09 season. And I think they can bring in another WR too.

it sucks for this year, at this point we pretty much have avery, gibson and amendola now. martin should be active too to provide the only depth we'll have. might see fells or darby lining up as receivers.

yeah Martin sure needs to get on the field and show something..i know its not his fault he`s injured and havent had the oppurtunities that the others however brief have had..but we cant afford to keep Martin & Foster who are yet to have made any plays yet, on the roster...ive been thinking maybe Foster could just go on the practice squad at the start of next year tho realise that could be a risky move...but seeing as he didnt seem to be on anyones radar when we drafted him due to him playing behind Hakeem Nicks & Brandon Tate in College..he may elude being picked up by another team for their active roster.

i tend to agree that we should add just one other wideout in the off-season or have atleast thought that for some time..but with the recent spate of injuries and the injury pasts of players at the position..some doubts have started to creep in.

i like our young wideouts a lot..but even someone like Robinson i see more as a number 2 than a number 1, so think that one addition should definately be the number 1 wideout..if we can get a player of that calibre of course...i would like to see them next year rotate the wideouts about with Avery & Gibson swapping between Slot & Flank...as i think Avery is the flyer of the corps but say in certain situations Gibsons physical toughness would be better suited for the slot.

i wouldnt say Burton is a great player..but i think he`s a good player and a handy one to have on the Roster...the fact that he led the team in wideout receptions prior to the injury and what Spags has said about him indicates that he is well thought of at Rams Park..and before we saw Gibson make such great catches on sunday if you asked all Rams fans who watches the games to vote which wideout has the best hands..Burton would win by a landslide.

I know it is not ideal but at a certain point we need bodies.

Burton knows the system, couldn't have gotten that out of shape in 5 weeks and if he has a successful comeback it would make a great made for tv movie.

I'd love to trade for a quasi big name but I respect DeSpags usually taking the steady sure steps and not the big leaps.

Thought a few of you might enjoy this article on Rams WR Keenan Burton! My favorite player for the Rams since they drafted him! I also collect alot of sportscards and memorabilia so if any of you care to see, this is my Keenan Burton collection.

WR Burton Making Progress For The Rams

ST. LOUIS (AP) ― The last time St. Louis Rams receiver Keenan Burton was on the field he tied an NFL career high with five catches and the 54 yards was a personal best.

If the records seem modest, remember that Burton is a second-year player for a team that is not exactly an offensive powerhouse. But in that game, two weeks ago, Burton helped the Rams snap a 17-game losing streak with a 17-10 win at Detroit.

"I love playing football and I'm grateful for the opportunity," Burton said Friday. "I try to do what they ask me to do."

The Rams (1-7) will be asking everyone to contribute this Sunday when they host New Orleans (8-0). So far, coaches like what they are seeing from Burton.

After the season-ending injury to Laurent Robinson in Week 3, Burton moved into the starting lineup. Since then, he has 25 receptions for 253 yards and has caught a pass in 16 consecutive games. He has five or more catches in three of the past four games.

That production by Burton has impressed rookie coach Steve Spagnuolo.

"This particular week, I thought he had a real good week of practice," Spagnuolo said. "He looks real confident to me in what he's doing out there. He's really helping all those other guys out there. He's very smart, a real pro. I think he's doing a really good job.

Pat Shurmur, the Rams' offensive coordinator, said he has seen steady development from Burton.

"Keenan is a guy that everybody would love to have on their team anywhere," Shurmur said. "He is a very steady guy, very detailed, learns exactly what we are asking him to do and then he goes out there and executes."

Veteran quarterback Marc Bulger likes what he has seen from Burton. Getting in sync with a receiver takes time but he believes Burton's work ethic is paying off.

"He's learning. I've always said it's just a lot of repetitions and experience in this league," Bulger said. "He's starting to get that. He's willing to learn. We get to talk a lot during practice. He asks the coaches questions. He has a great attitude which I think is going to help pay off when he really starts becoming one of the best receivers in the league."

That's Burton's goal. He enjoyed a prolific career at Kentucky, where he ranks fourth with 182 receptions. He had 2,320 yards and 25 touchdowns for coach Rich Brooks, who coached the Rams their first two years in St. Louis before being fired.

                                "I talk...

Keenan Burton has yet to play in his first NFL game, but he sounded like a longtime pro while serving as a camp counselor yesterday.

                                "Good route!"

                                "Make a move!"

                                "Come off the ball hard!"

                                "It's never the quarterback's fault!"

Burton was in town for the Back 2 Basics Football Camp at the Flaget Community Center. The inaugural camp -- for children ages 5-14 -- began Tuesday and will end today.

Burton, a former Manual High School and University of Kentucky player, signed a three-year contract with the St. Louis Rams last week and said working with children the past few days has provided "stress relief."

"I'm reliving my childhood," he said.

Burton will slide back into adulthood when he reports to training camp July 23 at Concordia University in Mequon, Wis. Burton was the Rams' fourth-round pick in April's NFL draft.

The Rams are considered thin at wide receiver, and many expect Burton to compete for the No. 3 spot behind veterans Torry Holt and Drew Bennett. The Rams also drafted a wide receiver in the second round -- Houston's Donnie Avery -- but Burton is confident he can make an impact as a rookie.

"They told me that they think I could be the steal of the draft," Burton said. "They think I can come in and contribute right now. We'll see.

"I want to (contribute), but I haven't played a down in the NFL. I can't come out and say that I'm going to do this or do that. I can say that I'll come out and try my hardest."

Burton had a breakout season as a junior at UK -- 77 catches, 1,036 yards, 12 touchdowns -- but saw his numbers drop (66 catches, 741 yards, nine TDs) in 2007 while battling numerous injuries. That likely hurt Burton's draft status, but Rams coach Scott Linehan remained impressed.

"He had a great junior year," Linehan said on the Rams' Web site. "His senior year wasn't as productive, although he played injured and played through it. So this shows this kid's toughness. I like his ability because he has very good hands but can also stretch the field as well."

Burton was one of several former local high school stars to take part in the Back 2 Basics camp, joining Male products Chris Barclay, Marcus Green, Montrell Jones and Chris Pointer and Shawnee grad Demetrius Forney. Barclay plays for the New Orleans Saints.

About 90 kids signed up for the event, which co-director Jamar Tillman hopes will attract kids from across the United States in years to come. He said he plans to move the event to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium next year and that...

Burton is suppossedly a speedster yet he does nothing in the return game.

He isn't shifty enough to make people miss. Burton quickly lost is Danny Amendola who has a huge heart.

I know WR screen are boring and don't get much, but Amendola's catch and desire gets a few yards.

Next season it is more than likely we bring in another WR.

                                That gives us the following:

                                These 4 are staying --
                                Avery
                                Gibson
                                Robinson
                                Amendola

With a Free agent Pick up or in the draft that gives us 5 WR's and a few guys on the outside looking in.

                                They are:

                                Burton, Martin, and Carter.

With Brooks Foster coming back from injury that leaves 4 guys for one spot. We also have an extra 5th round pick already so we may pick another WR up in the later rounds.

In anyone we are gonna keep Brooks Foster and that gives us 6 WR's/before draft day...

Does anyone disagree with this ???????? I doubt it ..
