  • I'd be more content with this loss if...

Kurt Warner played the entire game.

It was an entirely different game without him as their QB. Quite frankly, it just showed how much help we need with the offense getting in-sync and how much help we need at not only getting pressure (although Long and Little had sacks) but stopping the run. Like another thread said, the needs are becoming clearer.

I know Bulger was unlucky with a few of his receivers but it'd be nice if he could finish this season strong and help us out in the draft. I'd love to focus on Defense in the first round but considering the sub-par performances and pressure from not only the fans but the formula of a rebuild mode, we're going to get forced into drafting a QB with our more than likely high 1st round pick.

From the start of the second half, we had many, many opportunities to win this game. Heck, we should have WON this game. Questionable decisions by Spags, miscommunication between Gibson and Bulger, terrible decision to throw to Avery on that 4th down play...

      Hmmm.

        1. See the empty seats in the stadium today? The fans have abdicated their right to have meaningful input on the rebuild.

        2. Look at our late 90s rebuild. QB was one of the last positions we addressed. There are multiple rebuild formulas and not all of them mandate reaching for an early first round QB.

I agree Rockin, but my point is, even if we did score those points I doubt we would have been in a position to win if Warner was still playing. He was tearing our Defense apart.

The empty seats are $$ lost.

I'm not saying that's the only way, but it's certainly been a trend (Flacco, Ryan) that cannot be ignored.

It's also a case of apples and oranges. Our condition is much worse than the condition of Baltimore and Atlanta was.

Yea agreed. I think if Warner was still in the game, we would never have even have gotten those opportunities to start with.

But I think we would benefit from a QB in round 1. We could also benefit from other positions too, but a QB in round 1 would be impactful.

                  Touche.

As far as the offense goes, we've been ridiculed with injuries to the position we need players at the most: Wide Receiver. We've been unlucky in that respect. I think we still need a playmaker at WR, but I think we'll be OK.

The offensive line has been playing well for the most part and RB, all we need is a change of pace back so Steven doesn't have to do everything. Perhaps a RB who can also run back Kickoff/Punt returns. Amendola has been doing well though...so we'll see about that one.

It gets iffy with the Defense. They've certainly done some good things but run-stopping is a big issue. We need a guy like Suh and more pass rush.

Anyways, this isn't a draft conversation, my point is that although the Ravens and Falcons were in better shape than us when they drafted their QBs, I don't think we're too far off. Let's see what we can do in free agency as well...

I want to take this moment to once again thank Mike Martz for chasing Kurt Warner out of St. Louis.

Well, I have to say I for one felt Kurt might be done at the time also, in light of his fumbling issues and generally poor play caused in large part by his thumb and inability to grip the ball. Bulger was playing well, was younger and not as highly paid. It looked like the right (albeit tough) call at the time- and Kurt didn't really distinguish himself with the Giants either and wound up benched. Yet because Eli Manning quarterbacked a SuperBowl team, not much is made of it.
