  • Did Anyone Catch The Exchange Between Spags And Gibson?

It was on a huge 4th and 6 with about 8 minutes to go in the game and the ball on the Cardinals 21, with the score 21-6. Gibson takes himself out of the game and jogs to the sideline where Spags meets him, takes his headset off and asks, "Why are you coming out?", to which I assume Gibson said he was tired, prompting Spags to angrily bark back, "You're coming out on 4th down!".

On a team that will have a lot of decisions to make when it comes to WR, Gibson didn't do any favors for himself with a coach who isn't afraid to pull the trigger on getting rid of players. Gibson's lack of effort in attacking passes today didn't do him any favors either. I know he's a rookie, but effort is something that has nothing to do with experience. The sooner Gibson learns this, the better, because he has loads of talent.

The Rams basically went with 3 WRs today(Martin had 1 catch) and Amendola didn't play a lot in the first half. This reminds me of Kevin Carter and D. Farr coming out on that final drive of the Super Bowl. A lot of fans got ticked off that Carter could dare take himself out of the game at such a key point but Farr talked about it a few weeks ago. He said they were so exhausted that HE was having difficultly just coming out of his stance but the coaches thought he should stay in the game rather than substitute players. To me, the blame is directed at the wrong person if you blame the player. Maybe instead Spags will consider going with a better option at the #4 WR position and maybe a 5th WR instead of counting on the same few guys all day long.

The same is true for Steven Jackson. Is it not obvious the guy is wearing out in the second half of games because he's being driven into the ground because there isn't a servicable backup?

Well, Gibson wasn't so tired that he couldn't expend energy to dance in a circle and call for a pass interference penalty to the officials before jogging off the field.

If I remember correctly, the late substitution that had to be made for him also caused a delay of game penalty at that critical point, which had Spags fuming. Not an inspiring series for Gibson.

Maybe he came off the field because it was 4th down??? And spags said what are you doing coming off? Do you know for sure that is what happened?

I don't know, Spags looked extremely upset at Gibson when he said, "You're coming out on 4th down!".

So he was demanding Gibson come out?

I'd be interested in hearing what others think. It came at the 7:56 mark of the 4th quarter. Here's how it looked to me:

"You're coming OUT on 4th down??!!"

Much like the exchange you mentioned between Vermeil and Carter at the end of SB 34, only with anger involved. I guess I should have included the question marks originally.

No I don't think he was demanding anything, I think Spags was shocked and upset.

It looked just like when Dick V said the same thing to Carter and Farr on 4th down in the Super Bowl, the difference was Carter and Farr looked exhausted and Gibson didn't since he was able to dance around asking for a flag.

I was more pissed at the fade pattern where Bulger threw a perfect ball to the perfect spot and Gibson didnt run the fade correctly. As a matter of fact he didnt se the ball until it was too late.

I did notice that, but I'd like to look more into it. Maybe it was a package that Gibson isn't in, or something like that. Wasn't there only 1 WR on the field right after that?

I also disagree with the fact that he didn't attack the ball today. He played his ass off, and is looking promising. He should have had 2 TDs and 100 yards, but he didn't. He made some damn good catches, and runs after the catch. He's a real bright spot.

How can you be mad at him for that? He was in the process of running his route when it was lofted, a little early I believe. And he's still not completely comfortable with our terms completely yet.

On the replays and Super Bowl specials, you can tell those guys were downright EXHAUSTED. Long drive by the Titans, than we score in one play, and they are right back out there with McNair making one of the greatest escapes by a QB ever and making them run all over the place. I think they just missed one play and got back in, but I can still hear Vermeil... "You want out of the game with 26 seconds to go!?"

Good to see you posting ramsbruce.

Hopefully Spags will address what was going on.

This is ironic because its pretty much the only part of the game I got to see aside from the amazing Amendola 4th down conversion and the Jackson TD.

It was on redzone live while I was on my break at work, I was wondering why Gibson was leaving the field?! Walking right past Spags and I saw the little confrontation. Gibson better get his head screwed on straight! I miss Burton :'(

Also CONGRATULATIONS! To Steven Jackson for another 1,000 yard season! You're a beast man!!!!

I can understand what people are saying, but this guy is four weeks into his NFL career and probably not adjusted to the speed of the NFL game yet. He has led the team in targets for Rmas WRs for the last two games. Every time he catches the ball he busts his ass for extra yards. Maybe he really was exhausted.

I dont know about you, but if a guy is knackered he might not contribute as well as a guy coming off the bench. Maybe thats what Gibson's thinking was
