  • Jason Smith: Right pick for Rams?

Looks like 'J -Smooth' is settling in on the Rams offensive line. Rarely is his name anounced and is no doubt a major factor helping Steve Jackson put up nice rushing numbers.

Smith may need work with pass blocking, but in time he may become one of the Great Ones as he learns and understands the tricks of the trade.

Jason has become a welcome bookend, along with his other half so to say, Alex Barron.

Despite a miserable start (record wise) to his rookie season, The 2nd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft is quitely becoming a capable seasoned veteran and has definitely shown he was the right pick for the Rams.

    "7&7 is J-SMOOTH!"

Absolutely the right pick for the Rams! As much as I wanted Aaron Curry, and disliked the Jason Smith pick at the time, it's turning out to be very good. He's been excellent in run blocking and pretty good in pass protection. I think he's given up only two sacks ( 1 to Freeney and 1 today on a blitz ).

He's really gelling like the rest of the line is.

Our two first rounders the past two years really played hard these past few games.

Smith was very raw when drafted but was the right pick hopefully. His ceiling is the
highest of all the OT's in the draft and he is probably now ahead of that learning curve.
Some of our early draft choices our coming together which gives me hope.???

Jason Smith Sold Rams With Passion
            By Jeff Gordon

Billy Devaney admits that Eugene Monroe would have been an out-of-the-box left tackle, ready to go from Day One.
Smith, who came to Baylor as a defensive end, moved to tight end and played both tackles. Baylor played in a spread offense, so he spent a lot of time playing upright.
He will need more work. “His potential is good now,” Devaney said. “His potential is outstanding.”
But the football people fell in love with Smith’s persona and potential. So Smith rose to the top of the draft board this week.
“Just the mentality this guy plays with,” Devaney said. “We’ve been stressing the smart part, the passionate part, the productive part. He’s off the charts in those categories.
“We just thought for what we’re trying to put together here, he’s the perfect fit for us. I think you’ll enjoy the person. He’s an outgoing, fun-loving guy that takes football very, very seriously.
“So we couldn’t be an happier to have a guy like Jason Smith on the Rams.”

Will Smith Play LT or RT? Stay Tuned
            By Jeff Gordon

Many experts believe Jason Smith will develop into a dominant left tackle in the NFL. Trouble is, Alex Barron is better on the left side than right.
So which player will play which side?
Coach Steve Spagnuolo isn’t writing anything in ink just yet.
“It’s like any other team you put together,” he said. “You get him in here, we’ll do what’s best. You have to give us a little time to get him in helmets and pads first. We’ll work all that out. He’ll give us a little bit of versatility and another quality player.
            “Anything is possible.”
What did Smith believe is his best position?
“Football,” Jason said. “I can play wherever they put me.”

Say what you may about Jason Smith ....
            by RamsInfiniti
But this tough S.O.B. went down with injury, came back in the game, and made a NASTY kick out block on that 27-yard TD run by Jackson ...

Smith looks like he will eventually become an elite run blocking right tackle. He's an average pass blocker to date, but it looks like he's coming around ...

            His intensity is unmatched ...

            Starting to love this guy!

Another "red flag" for Andre Smith
            by Irishrover40
            Qopute from Rotoworld.com :

"Alabama OL Andre Smith was "visibly overweight" at his Pro Day Wednesday, according to Profootballtalk.com.

Terms like "not overly impressive," "rough," and "he bombed" are being used to describe Smith's performance. Teams will go back to the tape to evaluate Smith's junior-year performance before risking a high pick on him.
            Source: Profootballtalk.com "

Well, he screwed up again, besides the Combine. This is their chance at making impressions, & securing a future & getting big money . What in God's name are these guys thinking?????????????????????

            by hawaiianpunch
Ive seen Jason Smith play. Not bad i say. But there are times where he whiffs his run blocks. Can anyone give me where they think he is at this point? cause i only watched the half of the bengals game and that's all. You guys think smith can replace pace? Do you think he is better at right? Or left?
