The results of quarterback Marc Bulger's MRI on his knee came in early Monday evening and Bulger has been diagnosed with a broken tibia.
Bulger will miss three to six weeks. The long end of that would put him out for the season and while that remains a possibility, coach Steve Spagnuolo said Monday evening that no decision has been made yet on whether Bulger will go on injured reserve.
Kyle Boller will start in his place this week with Keith Null as his backup. The Rams do have a roster spot that will be created by the placement of end C.J. Ah You on injured reserve. It's possible another signal caller could be brought in as insurance but that will be determined in the next couple of days.

OMG! I was just talking with Sam about this very possibility. He is available, according to the nfl.com player listings. He would be an upgrade over Boller, Null isn't ready. Well, I'm afraid that will seal Bulger's fate with the Rams now. Several of us thought this was his last chance... looks like he'll be released (maybe traded?) after the season now...Comment

This isn't good news for our offense. I'd love for Boller to prove he can be a good QB, but he has shown consistently that he is inaccurate. If any of the remaining games are blowouts Null should absolutely get a chance to play in the 4th quarter. He will probably not have success, but it would definately benefit his progress to see regular season game speed and face a NFL calibre defense. Whether or not Bulger is done with the Rams lets hope he heals and gets another chance to play. He still has the ability to play quarterback at an above average level.Comment

Really no position to start a rookie QB? Hmm - how many games have we won the last few years? How many do you think we'll win this year? 2, 3 at best? Everybody is REALLY down on Tebow, some think he will be a fullback or TE, kinda comical actually - TD/Int ratio is 81/15 - the dude has rushed for more than 700+ yards each year, 46 rushing TD's, close to 8,000 pass yards. I get the whole thing, "He isn't a NFL QB" But I think he will be better than most people think. He's 6'4" 245 - with a good head on his shoulders.
Not sure what direction this team takes in the QB department, but I do know Bulger saw his last game in a Rams uni.

If Frerotte, Green, or Boller had been able to scrounge up a victory when they started, you might have had a point. Shoot-if they had looked better than Bulger, you might have had a point. Bulger may be part of the problem, but there are also some fundamental problems with the team beyond the QB position that lead to the team's inability to win on game day.Originally posted by L.A.RamFan View Post
By that same token, throwing a rookie to the wolves would only break their confidence and stunt their development. That is, to put it mildly, undesirable. Bulger can at least take some lumps next year while the team attempts to further construct and rebuild the roster into something more QB-friendly.
Tebow's throwing mechanics are horrible, to the point where he has actually regressed this season-when Florida's coaches have been trying to improve his ability to throw at an NFL level.Comment

The St. Louis Rams have announced on their Twitter page that quarterback Marc "Big Bulge" Bulger will miss at least two more weeks as he recovers from a broken leg.
And although backup Kyle Boller is listed as probable (i.e., virtually certain to play) with a thigh inury, the Rams have disclosed that Boller's practice reps were reduced on Thursday and Friday (he was listed as being a limited participant from Wednesday through Sunday) and that Keith Null "could play and might even start" on Sunday at Tennessee.
With only four games left in the season, there's a chance Bulger won't return in 2009, and that he won't be a Ram in 2010.

"Heaven can wait!" but not the majority of Rams fans who have become increasingly dissatisfied with the sub-par play coming from the Rams quarterback position.
Every excuse in the world has been made to explain all of the failings Marc Bulger has experienced, the past three miserable seasons in Saint Louis.
One glaring stats that stands out and seems to be a major problem for Bulger is "Red Zone efficiency". Any Fantasy player will tell you, the most important thing for QB is getting the ball in the endzone, for the score.
Even against the Jets friday night, Bulger looks pretty good between the 20s, but in the 1st half of that game the Rams can only come up with FGs.
There's even whisperings that Kyle Boller had a better showing and had more "pep in his step" than Bulger, in the game against the Jets.
The one TD thrown in that game was by 4th string rookie Keith Null, who was pretty impressive in the limited time given.
The so called "Bulger Bashers" along with "Bulger Apologists" are waiting with baited breathe in anticipation to see if the Rams QB can at least string two good offensive series together, let along two good games.
Marc Bulger is a player with good character, but what he lacks is a little cockiness or that chip on the shoulders attitude needed to keep opposing defenses in check.
How long are we going give excuses such as a poor O Line, inexperienced receivers or a broken down running game for Bulgers' ineffectiveness. Although these are contributing factors, Bulger has no one else to blame but himself for the lack of leadership needed, from the QB, in order for the Saint Louis Rams to have success.
AS MARC BULGER GOES, SO GOES THE RAMS......And the last few years have seen them both go to Hell in a Hand Basket!!!

I believe Bulger can still contribute and will at the very least be back next year (hopefully with a renegotiated contract). I think, with the right chips in place, he can lead us to a .500 record next year.
Bulger's faults is his lack of mobility and improvisation skills at this point in his career. He seems to lack the ability to be elusive in the pocket and goes down once penetration is achieved. He has never been mobile, but in recent years he just hasn't been able to make things happen in the passing game, especially on the run. Every time he's taken off Ive literally held my breathe and felt my palms get sweaty.
I think this season, his worse to date, has humbled him. Hopefully he can use this as fuel to fire himself up to be that player he once was. Mid 30 resurgences are very possible as we have seen with Favre, Warner, Moon, etc. He can turn it around if hope is restored in his mind and he believes we can make some noise, as we've seen, he has the tools.
Ive also come to this decision of keeping Bulger because of lack of depth and options. Keith Null is not ready from what we've seen his first year, Boller better not even be in camp, and who is Mike Reilly? I think Bulger is better than any guy that we can get in FA barring the Eagles releasing Mcnabb. Let Bulger remain as that vaunted stop gap option i keep hearing about and lets play ball. West Coast offenses demand accuracy. Bulger was the most accurate passer in football at one point. We focus on the run, once we get that second change of pace back to compliment steven jackson, we could run a three headed monster with the likes of Ogbonnaya as well.
All that being said, give Bulger another year and take the BPA in round 1.-02-01-2010, 07:57 PM -
