  • Our receivers for next year

Does anyone agree that we really dont need to draft a receiver early in next year's nfl draft. Not only that I think we actually are not going to be able to dress all of our quality receivers in the beginning of next year. I think the FO has done a great job picking receivers from under the radar that can have an impact on this team.

PS I would muc rather we draft a change of pace back to spell out SJ.

Are receivers are green but have a ton of potential. Amendola in particular is going to be very good. No we dont need to pick up a wr in the draft. i think our receivers next year will be.

    wr2-brandon gibson

Re: Our receivers for next year

I think your right. We definitely have some POTENTIAL quality guys here. The question everyone is going to have is potential enough to look past drafting someone. If you look at us right now, we are looking at a wr consisting of the following. Avery, Gibson, Amendola, Burton, Robinson, and Foster. The questions then start. What do we really have in Foster since we have yet to see him play in the regular season. Is Robinson going to be able to stay healthy? Can Avery be a true number one receiver?

I definately think we have a quality receiver in Gibson, and Amendola is turning into our Wes Welker, and Burton has shown flashes of being a quality possession receiver. I think if we get a quality quarterback and a big TE to give us a red zone threat, then we could have a good offensive team here.

We have some gems if they mature and learn the game. We need to solidify who they are getting their passes from (not a Bulger dig). I just hope that whomever the QB is, that the whole receiver corps gets an entire training camp and off-season to develop their rhythm and timing with their QB.

Like the idea of drafting a "change of pace back", we also need a big target receiver. I wouldn't mind if we took a chance on TO! Rams need Play makers! Our WRs have too many dropped balls! WE CAN'T HAVE THAT!!!

          RAMS RECEIVER WISH LIST:

          1. OCHO-CINCO
          2. T.O.
          3. AVERY
          4. Miles Austin
          5. Burton

Free Agency, I wouldn't mind a vet, but drafting a guy round 2 maybe 3 doesn't make sense to me. We have Avery a second rounder, Robinson a third, Burton a 4th, Brooks foster a 5th, Gibson a 6th,a at the beginning of the year Stanley who was a 7th, and Amendola an Undrafted FA. We have a receiver drafted in every round, but the first. I don't think Dez Bryant is as good or could be as helpful as a guy like Suh or Jimmmy Claussen. If we want to draft a receiving threat i say look at the TE position.

And than, after 4-5 weeks into next season, we'll wonder how is possible that we have so weak WR group, again.

None of those moves will happen. And none of the moves should happen. Believe me im a fan of TO and Chad and think they are really funny people. They are not funny however when they are on your team and messing with the chemistry of your team. Miles Austin is the only one on that list i would take and he isnt leaving dallas.

And do you feel a need to capitalize random parts of your post?

I think receivers go to the back of the line as far as draft picks go, this group if healthy and thats a big if will be very good,Robinson and Gibson will be #1 &2 with Avery having to step up a bit to get in that group or he sits at #3 or how ever you want to list them but I think we are set there.

T.O's has not only been seeing dropped balls, he's been seeing the dropping of his career. He's done.

Also, Ruvell Martin didn't look bad today. I say we keep him as our vet receiver for next year.

I agree with a lot of you that if we draft a QB, big TE and a quick back we can be set on offense. Everything should be used to address the concerns on defense

yes it would be nice to have a pro-bowl caliber player at every position on the field, but it's not realistic.

I think we can stick with our guys.

                            #1 - Robinson
                            #2 - Burton/Gibson
#3 - Change of pace slot, Avery and Amendola.

We should get a veteran player though, but make sure they are aware they are not here to start.

those 2 guys put alot of speed in the slot, really should be able to do good things with that.

                                We need some Receivers too!

Sure, we'll patch up our suffering defensive line with the first pick, then what? Bulgers on the podium announcing his tearful retirement and the Rams have no clue as what to do to solve their QB problem, a tough problem, indeed, to crack.

We all know that the Rams have holes every whichaway around and it may take a long time to get to where we want to go.
Getting strong playmaking receivers in here could do alot to give the Rams a quick initial boost. It was so frustrating seeing WR after WR go down this year for the Rams. It would probably serve the Rams better if they could get bigger and stronger at this position, a little talent at this skill position wouldn't hurt either.

Is Avery our true #1? The Jury's still out, he needs to show more dedication and concentration as he continues to develope his game.

Is Burton and the rest of the receiving corp just too injury prone? He and Laurent Robinson showed flashes of greatness, but they can't stay on the field long enough to take their game to the next level.

In this years draft and during free agency, one would hope that the Rams could come across at least a couple of big strong skillfull receivers, the type that could help out a QB in the pinch, open up the running game, be the goto guy in the redzone and has a nose for the end zone.

The need for quality wideouts should also be one of the top priorities for the Rams this off season.

I know that the offense isn't producing, but I feel like the receiving corps isn't exactly awful anymore. Avery and Amendola are really producing. Gibson, and even Ruvell Martin are playing nicely. And next year with Robinson and Burton back, this won't exactly be a terrible corps like we thought early on in this season.

                                THE WATERCOOLER

QUESTION: Do you see any of the current Rams wide receivers developing into a No. 1 guy someday, or is this corps comprised of guys more suited for No. 2 or No. 3 roles?

                                JIM THOMAS
Don’t see it. Donnie Avery shows flashes, but can’t stay healthy, and needs to be more consistent catching the ball and getting open. Brandon Gibson’s production has dipped markedly since his first-game splash. Danny Amendola isn’t big enough to be anything more than a slot receiver in the NFL. Ruvell Martin? He can’t get on the field. Laurent Robinson — remember him? — looked like he was on pace for a big year before suffering his season-ending ankle and leg injuries in Week 3.

                                BERNIE MIKLASZ
They’re all secondary receivers; 3s. I suppose Avery has a shot at being a legit No. 2, but his lack of durability makes him more suitable for the slot. And there is nothing wrong with that; Avery could be a dynamic performer as a slot receiver. With the changes in the NFL passing game, there’s more of a premium on big, physical receivers and the Rams don’t have one. This is the league’s worst group of receivers, and it won’t be fixed until the Rams either (A) sign a top free agent wideout; (B) hit the jackpot by drafting a legit No. 1.

                                JEFF GORDON
We’ve seen Isaac Bruce. We’ve seen Torry Holt. We know what a No. 1 receiver looks like here in St. Louis. There isn’t a real No. 1 in this group. Perhaps Brandon Gibson can be a No. 2 someday. Perhaps Donnie Avery can use his speed to become a nice slot receiver. Maybe the injured Laurent Robinson can come back as a possession guy. Maybe Danny Amendola can be an extra slot guy to go with his kick returning. But that’s it. (All of this assumes that the Rams will someday run a legitimate passing game. In this timid scheme, the Rams have plenty.)

KEVIN WHEELER (Host of “Sports Open Line” on KMOX)
No, none of these guys are No. 1’s. Not even close. Avery and Robinson strike me as being the same player. They’re both speed guys who can stretch the field but neither has the size or hands to be a No. 1. Gibson looks like he could be a decent possession receiver as a No. 3 or No 4. They need someone who combines the elements of size, speed and hands and none of the players on the current roster fit that bill.

What are your opinions on our WR depth chart by the time the season rolls around?

Personally, I think it will go like:

                                Wr 1: Laurent Robinson
                                Wr 2: Donnie Avery
                                Wr 3: Mardy Gilyard
                                Wr 4: Brandon Gibson
                                Wr 5: Brooks Foster
                                Wr 6: Keenan Burton

Maybe the real question is, who lines up as our #1?

Burton is suppossedly a speedster yet he does nothing in the return game.

He isn't shifty enough to make people miss. Burton quickly lost is Danny Amendola who has a huge heart.

I know WR screen are boring and don't get much, but Amendola's catch and desire gets a few yards.

Next season it is more than likely we bring in another WR.

                                That gives us the following:

                                These 4 are staying --
                                Avery
                                Gibson
                                Robinson
                                Amendola

With a Free agent Pick up or in the draft that gives us 5 WR's and a few guys on the outside looking in.

                                They are:

                                Burton, Martin, and Carter.

With Brooks Foster coming back from injury that leaves 4 guys for one spot. We also have an extra 5th round pick already so we may pick another WR up in the later rounds.

In anyone we are gonna keep Brooks Foster and that gives us 6 WR's/before draft day...

Does anyone disagree with this ???????? I doubt it ..
