  • Atogwe placed on IR; Rams sign S Hart and QB Reilly, release LB Douglas

Per the Rams news' Twitter account...

Rams make roster moves: Atogwe to I.R., LB Douglas released. Team signs S Clinton Hart and QB Mike Reilly.

Some more information on Reilly, who I believe had a couple Rams fans intrigued when he was a prospect in the '09 Draft earlier this year...

Reilly is a rookie out of Central Washington, spent time in preseason with Pitt. Has been on G.B. practice squad. Will wear No. 13.

From NFL Draft Scout, courtesy of NFL.com...

    Analysis

Positives: Good height for the position with the frame to handle an additional 10-15 pounds of mass. Good timing and accuracy for the short to intermediate routes. At least adequate touch and accuracy for the deep pass. Cerebral. Reads defenses well. Has control of the offense and is allowed to audible at the line of scrimmage. Reads through his progressions quickly and will take the check-down option rather than force the ball into coverage. Has some elusiveness to buy time in the pocket and surprising straight-line speed to generate yardage as a scrambler.

Negatives: Lack of preferred arm strength exposed with a disappointing performance against better competition at the East-West Shrine Game. Appeared to be over-throwing passes in an attempt to quell concerns about his arm strength, and his accuracy -- which scouts had thought of as a relative strength -- suffered as a result. Operates out of a spread attack and his statistics are inflated. Athletic enough to handle the transition, but is used to taking snaps out of the shotgun and will need to work on his footwork from center.

Man I knew this team would have a tough year even if it stayed healthy but this is ridiculous.

So how long do you think it will be before people start screaming, "Start Reilly!" ? I give it about a week to ten days.

I'd say the screaming starts at the end of the first quarter of the next game, or when Boller throws his first pick....whichever comes first.

            Actually...I have a question.

If our rookie from a spread offense sucks so badly we won't play him even if every other QB on the team sucks then why do we go out and sign another rookie from another spread offense?

I was watching NFL network and it looks like Boller has a thigh injury and has had only limited action in practice. Hopefully he starts as i imagine he is better then Null and Reilly.

I guess the fact that Jamie Martin is still available is moot?

Regardless if boller is hurt, why did we sign another rookie? I dont understand the move. I guess is doesnt really matter, if someone else does have to start in bollers stead i hope they have a good game, diamonds in the rough come around every now and again.

Really, what special skills are required here. Hand the ball to Jackson. Throw to Jackson.

Because apparently Division II QBs are to somebody in the Rams front office as Tight Ends were to Scott Linehan.

If Boller's injury situation is so parlous that we do need to consider adding another QB, why can't Chip open the wallet enough to pay for a serviceable backup, not a(nother) long term rookie project?

Also apparently, he was under center in a "pro" style offense for three years before his senior year, when they went to the spread.

I'd rather, at THIS point in THIS season, check out someone new than grab a journeyman pickup to maybe win 1-2 more games.

It seems like the FO are targeting low-profile QB's from small Division II schools who put up huge numbers.

Mike Reilly threw for 12,448 yards and 118 TD's during his college career.
