  • Bartell is he making the grade ?

I've seen every game this year and to me he does not look like a #1 corner. He has a play here or there, but nothing jaw dropping to make me think he isn't better suited for the #2 or nickel. I would like nothing more than for him to be a playmaker on this defense but so far I have not seen that in him.

Would love thoughts on this !

From the games that I've seen this has been my impression also. Just haven't seen any big plays (don't think he even has one pick) much at all this year.

In fact, in the Chicago game they were targeting him no matter who he was guarding. That's right Cutler would rather throw to Johnny Knox with Bartell on him rather than pick on Quincy Butler who was guarding Devin Hester at the time. Something is wrong with this picture.

Here's hoping that Ronnie can get it going before this year is over. We have spent a lot of dough on him if he doesn't.

    WHAT SAY YE?

He's looked solid to me. He was injured and playing through it for a long time. He did a pretty amazing job in the Saints game.

A CB who's been playing hurt on a team with virtually no pass rush...

Kind of a tough evaluation, no?

          Stats according to NFL.com

          46 solo tackles
          3 combined tackles
          4 passes defended
          3 forced fumbles

          Quincy Butler

          22 solo tackles
          1 combined
          5 passes defended

All the other corners have much lower stats

So as far as the Rams go Bartell is the top corner

Re: Bartell is he making the grade ?

Bartell has been dealing with some injury issues and I know the corners are often left on an island because of a lack of pressure up front, but he's staying with receivers for the most part, then getting totally lost and unable to break anything up. His ball skills are looking no better than what we used to see with Tye Hill.

Hopefully he can get healthy and change the regression to progression.

He ALWAYS seems to be playing catch up no matter who the receiver is. When running for your life to catch a receiver it's almost impossible to locate the ball even to defend it let along pick it off.

A #1 receiver doesn't play catch up on most plays. He puts himself in position

Re: Bartell is he making the grade ?

Hasn't he been dealing with nagging injuries? Last year he was solid. He's our best corner this year.

Also, it's a different defensive scheme, so everyone has to learn. Just give it time, next year should be good.

Re: Bartell is he making the grade ?

I never liked him. He sucks at defending 3rd and long. for anyone that thinks
he is a #1, I ask this.. Why does every O we come up against throw at him?

Answer. He gets burned and burned in big plays.

He may be OUR best corner but the questions is........... is he an NFL #1 ???

He's our best cornerback because we have no one else better than him.

Re: Bartell is he making the grade ?

The answer is no, he hasnt made the grade. But he is dealing with a nagging thigh(?) injury that has been there all season. He is playing with a non existent pass rush. He hasnt been exactly going up against scrub WR's either. So he isnt doing as good as i had hoped. But he is the best we have, and i hope he has a much better season next year.

Not really. Rams had "virtually no pass rush" last year also and Bartell still made numerous plays.

Enough so that a team like New Orleans came after him with a sweet offer. Ever get the feeling that the Saints are very glad that he didn't accept it?

the concept of team ball is so foreign to some of you people it amazes me...

I think its more of a case of them not wanting to throw on the side of the field where OJ Atogwe is roaming around, and would prefer to throw on Bartell and James Butler
