Fletcher is severely injured, I doubt he's starting next year ...

I just don't know if they'll shell out the money for Atogwe. Of course if they do, he's the FS ...

Avery is going to be a third string receiver?

I think since we are drafting Suh. Little will return for one more year.

WR3 refers to the slot guy ...

Frequently, WR1 and WR3 are in the game together in 2 receiver sets, or WR2 and WR3, etc.

I doubt Fells will be the starting TE.

I also doubt Vobora is our starting SLB.

Yes, but his "failure" may have been related to the position change. Carriker is a perfect fit for a 3-4 defense playing end ...

Suh is playing DT and is very dominant doing so. He'll translate well to the NFL ...

Ryan is a rapidly developing gamer at the position, had 35 tackles, 8 for loss. Paired next to a horse like Suh, they could be a dominant pair ...

Scott is coming on strong and most definitely will figure in. Douzable, Ramsey, and Gibson would be a very nice rotational pair ...

Suh could set us up perfectly at DT ....

Man if Suh can come through for us that would be awesoem. Our secondary is not that great at all so we need a guy who can pressure the QB to help our pass D some. We need an immediate impact guy though. We can't afford to have a guy take 4 years to develop IMO. Can he be that guy?

ok, i'll bite and throw my hat in the ring....

Since you're not playing Incognito and the RG position is vacant...
maybe Rams could plug Greco in there. Not 100% sure if he's ready for a starting role but he's had some playing and practice time to get acclimated and looks sturdy. If Cogs is gone, we need to see if Greco's got what it takes. If not, Devaney and Demoff better get on the horn this offseason...

I want Incognito to stay. He has a short fuse yes, and makes bonehead mistakes. He's doing exactly what we pay him for though and doing it quite well. I saw him pull a defender and drive him at least 10 yards out of the play on Sunday. That man is a beast.

As for the boneheaded personal fouls, step into the man's shoes. He's told to protect our franchise back and a rookie who hasn't even taken a snap. He was sending a message to them that he wasn't playing around. Sadly he took it a bit far.

Long story short, the man is a risk but his play is well worth the reward.

Carriker wasn't once in a generation talent. Suh is.

As for Incognito (who also went to Nebraska), we can find someone to do his job without the lunatic personal foul penalties.

The 2010 Rams Roster: So far, its a short list
                                by AvengerRam_old
Here is a list of players who meet the follwing criteria:

                                1. Are signed through the 2010 season;
                                2. Are unlikely to be cut/traded for cap reasons;
                                3. Are not currently recovering from career-altering injuries;
                                4. Are unlikely to retire; and
                                5. Will almost certainly make the team if not traded.

                                RB Steven Jackson
                                FB Mike Karney
                                WR Donnie Avery
                                WR Brandon Gibson
                                TE Daniel Fells
                                C Jason Brown
                                OT Jason Smith
                                OG Jacob Bell
                                DE Chris Long
                                DT Darell Scott
                                MLB James Laurinaitis
                                CB Ron Bartell
                                S James Butler
                                S Craig Dahl
                                K Josh Brown
                                P Donnie Jones

That's 16 players. The remaining 37 spots are question marks. Sure, there are players who have good shots of makin it if healthy (L.Robinson, D.Amendola, K.Burton, J.Greco, D.Vobora, L.Grant, J.King, J.Wade, B.Fletcher) and others who will return if signed (C.Ryan, O.J.Atogwe), but there are very few certainties.

I think its safe to say that the Rams need to obtain at least 5 long-term starters (with 2 or 3 being impact players) from the draft and free agency.

Its going to be an interesting offseason.

How many current starters would you return on opening day 2011?
                                by AvengerRam_old
Of the current starters (offense/defense), which players do you hope/expect to be starters on opening day 2011?

                                Here's my list:

                                QB: Sam Bradford - obviously.
RB: Steven Jackson - he needs help, and his time is winding down, but I still want him in the starting lineup in 2011.
LT: Rodger Saffold - future is bright.
RT: Jason Smith - he might never live up to his draft status, but he is a solid RT who I believe will continue to improve.
C: Jason Brown - didn't have his best season in 2010, but should bounce back with better OGs around him.

DE: Chris Long - the "Howie's son" thing is becoming a mere footnote.
DE: James Hall - a long term replacement will be needed, but he earned this spot for at least one more year.
DT: Fred Robbins - great FA signing.
MLB: James Laurinaitis - the heart of the defense.
CB: Ron Bartell - its unfortunate how many Rams fans fail to see just how good he is.
CB: Brad Fletcher - one of the truly great stories for the Rams in 2010.
FS: O.J. Atogwe - he must truly be looking forward to a healthy offseason after spending most of last Spring rehabbing injuries.

So, for me, that's 12 of 22 who, in my mind, are secure.

I put the remaining 10 starters in the following categories:

Adequate, but could use an upgrade: OG Jacob Bell, DT Gary Gibson, SLB Na'il Diggs, FB Brit Miller.

Should be depth player (at best), not starter: OG Adam Goldberg, TE Daniel Fells (Note: I think we already have his replacement in Michael Hoomanawanui), WR Danny Amendola, WR Brandon Gibson, SS Craig Dahl, WLB David Vobora.

                                • Alex Barron, LT - His spree of drive killing penalties comes to an end.
                                • Kyle Boller, QB - Showed us just why he's no longer a Raven.
                                • Randy McMichael, TE - Hasn't played at the level he did in Miami.
                                • Leonard Little, LE - If he's willing to stay for a small contract he gets re-signed, otherwise he goes.
                                • Marc Bulger, QB - His days as a Ram are over, as both parties need a fresh start.
                                • Samkon Gado, RB - Really struggled this season and an upgrade is needed.
                                • Kenneth Darby, RB - Another backup RB who was innefective.

                                Resign
                                • Anyone who isn't being let loose.

                                Free Agents
                                • Jason Campbell, QB, Washington - He still has potential and needs a fresh start. If all else fails, he's a stop gap QB.
                                • Ray Edwards, LE, Minnesota - A solid DE who would immediately help with our pass rush woes.
                                • Jerious Norwood, RB, Atlanta - A speed back who would be a great change of pace for Jackson, and would also lessen his work load.

                                Draft
                                • 1) Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska - Need I say more?
                                • 2) Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri - A fast sideline to sideline 'backer who wold start immediately. Also has great leadership skills.
                                • 3) Dan LeFevour, QB, Central Michigan - Has a good arm and great mobility. Will take a few years to transition game to the NFL level, but has great potential.
                                • 4) Jared Veldheer, OT, Hillsdale - A massive tackle with surprising agility for his size. Would start immediately at RT.
                                • 5A) Jimmy Graham, TE, Miami - Converted basketball player who has great height and quickness. Has phenominal upside.

Let me know what you think, if this is possible, etc.

                                Resign:

                                - James Hall, DE (cheap, good rotational guy)
                                - Gary Gibson, DT (good depth, cheap)
                                - Clifton Ryan, DT (good DT, developing)
                                - OJ Atogwe, FS (ballhawk in the secondary, one of our better D players)
                                - Mark Setterstrom, OG (Decent backup on the OL)
                                - Daniel Fells, TE (showed some flashes, looks like a good back-up)

                                Cut:
                                - Alex Barron, LT (bust, will want LT money, hurts the team with drive killing mental mistakes)
                                - Leonard Little, DE (older, will want starting DE money, time to move on)
                                - Randy McMichael, TE (not a good TE anymore)
                                - Marc Bulger, QB (he's old, expensive and can't be relied on anymore)

                                Free Agents:
                                - Leon Washington, RB (good change of pace back, explosive, good in the return game, will come cheeper because of injury)
                                - Tony Scheffler, TE (balanced TE who has excellent hands and decent blocking skills, feud with McDaniels will make him available from the Broncos)
                                - Chad Pennington, QB (he's a one year stop gap to groom whatever QB we draft in the later rounds this year, he'll be cheap coming off surgery and should still have enough of a noodle arm to work in our west coast offense)
                                - David Baas, OG (Big, run blocking RG to replace Richie)
                                - Adam Terry, OT (Mammoth OT who will provide good depth/spot starting)
                                - Thomas Howard, OLB (Great cover LB, will be dropped by the Raiders as a scapegoat for their struggles in stopping the run)
                                - Derrick Johnson, MLB (I'm suggesting we move him to OLB where he dominated in college, I believe he's being misused right now)
                                - Richard Marshall, CB (physical corner who supports the run, a traditional Spags guy)

                                Draft:

1.01- Ndamukong Suh, DT (Beast, BPA, Position of Need)
2.01- Demaryius Thomas, WR (Ideal size, good speed and hands, WAS the Georgia Tech passing game)
3.01- Greg Hardy, DE (Good size and speed, a solid pass rusher to work opposite Chris Long)
4.01- Ciron Black, OT (Drops because he's not projected as a LT despite playing it all through college, dominant run blocker and instant RT starter)
5.01- Dan LeFevour, QB (He's got a good chance to succeed at a cheap price, throw him in there and see if he can make something happen, if not, Jake Locker next year)
