  • Would you stay or would you go?

This is all hypothetical so just play along please.

Let's say your a player on your favorite team (THE RAMS) and your contract is up. So you decide to test the free agent market. Let's say your 25 years old. The Rams offer on the table is 3 years $5 million per with a $10 million signing bonus. The market is offering the same $10 million signing bonus but the contract would be 3 years at $6 million per year.

    What would you do?

    Stay or go?

Well unless I was living in one of the 6 states where there is no STATE income tax I would probably have to move on. After all who can live on only 3 or 4M a year after taxes? The $10M signing bonus would help, but it's gotta last me the rest of my life, know what I mean?

I'd like to think I'd have the loyalty to stick with a team, especially if it were 'my team', but I also would realize the team has little or no loyalty to players. Being a marquee player helps teams stay loyal but even then it is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately league.

    Good question though!

If I'm a pro football player and I get picked up by the rams, I am never leaving. I dont care if they are only paying me the minimum salary.

Depends on how grounded I am in the community and what teams are looking at me.

1 million extra a year of course is nice but it is not blow me over extra money.

I like to think of myself as a loyal guy, if I was drafted by a team and they had a serious vision that I believed in, I would like to think that I would stay and help repay the team that brought me into the league. That being said, if an overwhelming offer presented itself, it would be hard to decline. But as for your question, whats a measly $1,000,000 ?

Re: Would you stay or would you go?

If I was playing for my favorite team, I'd probably want to stay. After all, by the end of my first contract, my family and I may not feel like moving to wherever the money is. The overall difference in the offers is about 12%, which probably isn't enough to make me give up my dream job.

However, if I had no prior attachment to the team that drafted me, I might be inclined to leave for the better offer.

It's according. If I could go to a contender, I'd go.

There's not a big enough difference in the money to make me change jobs if I liked & respected my bosses & coworkers & I felt it was reciprocated, never mind any sentimental attachment to the team as a fan.

But,as well as the all-important personal/working relationships, I'd consider whether I was a starter or ,at least, had a good chance to be one. I think that matters a lot to players which is why you see guys like Bruce and Favre-loaded with loot from financially successful careers- go to teams that are hated rivals by fans of their original teams.

Then again, anybody who has played team sports at any level knows how much more fun it is to win. If the other team was much closer to being a contender, esp on my side of the ball, I'd have to be tempted. Another reason why I think you see players change teams a lot, often for what seems like a relatively small difference in money or even less money.

Personally, I'd be miserable playing for the Cowturds or The Whiners, no matter what the money. But I'm not a 25 year old African American guy with a faux degree in underwater basket-weaving, either.

As much as I hate to say this, I would go. I'd have to look at it from a purely business standpoint. 20% increase is considerable and just investing the difference alone could make an impact on one's entire future. I'm a Rams fan through and through, but if presented with an opportunity that could make a big difference in future for myself and my family, I would take it (I believe that $3 million over three years could be that difference maker).
