  • Rams set to get permanent playing field

    Per Yahoo Sports

ST. LOUIS (AP)—Just in time for a new owner, the St. Louis Rams are about to get a new playing field.

The Convention & Visitors Commission plans to install a permanent, artificial turf surface at the Edward Jones Dome in time for the 2010 season. A news conference to formally announce the improvements could be held as early as Friday.

News of the upgrade coincided Thursday with the announcement of the Rams’ owners reaching agreement with a potential buyer for the franchise.

CVC president Kitty Ratcliffe says the new field will be comparable in quality to surfaces used the last four seasons with one major difference: The new field is convertible and can be rolled up after the season.

This is good news to me. A permanent surface was needed, one that was not going to be replaced every year. From what I've read, FieldTurf takes a few years to "mature" and set before it becomes an ideal playing surface. Many other facilities have the same surface and annually get very high reviews from players, often better than grass fields. The only difference between those facilities and the Ed is that the FieldTurf is not replaced every year. Hopefully it makes a difference.

Wait a second. Did someone really name their kid "Kitty"?
