  • Rams Sign AJ Feely

    PER STLTODAY:

And on the first day of free agency, the Rams have agreed to terms with. . . .A.J. Feeley?

Not exactly the quarterback on most fans’ wish list. Feeley, who turns 33 in May, spent the 2009 season with Carolina. He has not thrown an NFL pass since 2007 and over his 10-year career has thrown only 665 times, completing 372 (55.9 percent) for 4070 yards with 27 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.

Feeley has played in 23 NFL games with 15 starts. His best stretch came in 2002 _ eight years ago _ when he led the Eagles to four victories in five starts.

Yes, there’s a Philadelphia connection with Feeley. He was a fifth-round draft pick of the Eagles in ‘01 out of Oregon and spent six seasons there in two stints over his career.

    It’s a two-year deal.
    Sign that Bulger is done?

Its certainly not a WOW signing, maybe we don't get one of those, but I do like the signing. Feely may not be great, but he has shown glimpses of solid, but not spectacular, play IN THIS OFFENSE. At minimum, I think he could be a bridge if we draft a qb of the future and let Bulger go, or a solid back up.

That's what it is. He's the low priced vetern QB who will start a few games as Bradford, McCoy or whoever they draft gets ready to play in the NFL.

Most people expect them to draft a QB at some point. That means if they signed a QB in free agency it meant Bulger was gone.

If your current starter has had success, you just don't keep him on the roster as you transition to his replacement. It almost never happens in the NFL. With Delhomme being released from the Panthers organziation, they were talking about that on ESPN this morning. If you are going to make the move, you can't keep the old starter around.

Feely's a serviceable QB, but don't expect much from him.

Oh joy. A guy that couldnt nudge either Delhomme or Matt Moore for the starting job in Carolina has come to St.Louis. I would rather trust Bulger with the reigns for another year than go into the season with Feeley as the starter.

He probably won't be. In all honesty I would be surprised if you guys don't end up with either Bradford or Clausen. Defense only wins championships when you have a decent offense.

I guess we don't have to worry about the team trading for Vick.

Weren't the Patriots trying to sign this guy last year? Thats gotta count for something... I guess.

Admittedly my AJ Feeley knowledge is a little lacking. Does anybody know anything about how this guy plays? I think he is more mobile than Bulger, but then again so is an oak tree.

He's middle-of-the-road. He isn't spectacular, but he isn't terrible (most of the time).

Yay? Definitely not starter material. I hope he's here to replace Boller, cause he needs to go. I also hope we get some more exciting signings than this. Like Kevin Walter or Antonio Bryant for these guys to actually have someone reliable to throw to.

Rams Close to a Deal With AJ Feely

We still don't know who the St. Louis Rams' starting quarterback will be this season. But we may have learned today who their backup will be.

Our old friend Aaron Wilson tweeted, and Rams Billy Devaney "pretty much confirmed" in a radio interview, that the Rams are close to a deal with free agent quarterback A.J. Feeley.

Feeley was most recently under contract with the Panthers, but he never played in a game for Carolina. He last got on the field in the regular season in 2007, when he started two games for the Eagles. He's also played for the Dolphins.

The 32-year-old Feeley has been a backup to Donovan McNabb before, and it's possible that he could be be a backup to McNabb again in 2010. Or he could be a backup to Marc Bulger, Michael Vick, Sam Bradford or whoever else the Rams have under center.

                                We should sign Matt Hasselbeck!!!!
                                by BarronWade
The seahawks would definitely like to move on to their next QB whether it be Whitehurst or someone else and Hasselbeck has not let them move on with his play so he will likely become a free agent.

Next year you know Bradford will have an even bigger target on him because team think they have found his weakness and that is pressuring him. So we need a veteran back-up that knows the WCO very well that knows all about the short dumps. But with the Rams success this season we now found out we should get a QB with playoff experience to help teach Bradford who better than Hasselbeck who is probably a back up next year.

It's not like John Hekker will be our back up this season. Some QB will be signed. The question is.....who?

                                How Many Years for Bulger?
                                by GameTime
                                Something to ponder..

I am a huge Bulger fan, but with some of his injury concerns in the past I am concerned to sign him to a contract that exceeds 5 yrs.

I am thinking maybe a 4 or 5 yr contract. Or i guess we could sign him longer and have less in guaranteed money.

How do you guys think this will shake out?
