  • Redskins have reportedly contacted the Rams about a potential trade for DT Adam Carri

    per rotoworld via nfl.com

The Redskins have reportedly contacted the Rams about a potential trade for DT Adam Carriker.
Carriker has a connection with the Redskins, as new defensive coordinator Jim Haslett coached him in St. Louis. Though he's been injury-plagued the past two seasons, it's hard to picture the Rams trading the former first-rounder unless they go with a defensive tackle at No. 1 overall.

In search of 3-4 help, Redskins eye trade for Rams DL Carriker

By Jason La Canfora | NFL.com

The Washington Redskins are interested in acquiring defensive lineman Adam Carriker from the St. Louis Rams and have contacted the team about the possibility, league sources said Thursday.

New Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, who coached Carriker in St. Louis, is a strong proponent of the three-year NFL veteran and would like to add him as Washington transitions to a 3-4 scheme, according to team and league sources. The Redskins also graded Carriker highly coming out of Nebraska when Gregg Williams was running their defense.

Carriker, who missed all of last season because of a right shoulder injury, hasn't lived up to expectations after the Rams drafted him 13th overall in 2007, and he's someone whom other NFL teams believe would be available in a trade. Other teams also have inquired about Carriker, and a deal is possible before the draft next month.

Carriker can toggle between tackle and end, and he has two sacks and 53 tackles in 31 career games. He played end in college, and his transition to tackle has been bumpy.

Albert Haynesworth, who's due a $21 million bonus in April, isn't interested in playing nose tackle in Washington, according to team and league sources, and convincing him to do so will not be easy for a player who often has clashed with coaches. Even after signing former Carolina Panthers nose tackle Maake Kemoeatu, the Redskins could use more 3-4 personnel to fortify their defensive line.

The Redskins, who have shown uncharacteristic restraint in the free-agent market thus far, could be active on the trade market, and defensive end Andre Carter might be on his way out of Washington. Carter has struggled as a tweener linebacker in a 3-4 front, but he has value because he plays a position that has few available alternatives in the free-agent market.

Carter is one of few players to have a no-trade clause in his contract, but he's very open to a change of scenery and would waive that clause should the right opportunity arise, according to team and league sources. The Redskins signed Carter as a free agent in 2006 and renegotiated his deal in 2009. Last season, he had 11 sacks, his highest total since 2002.

Haynesworth telling the coaches he's not playing NT. Sweet.

If we could get Haynesworth after that $20 million bonus is due, that'd be great. The Redskins don't really have a place for him and might even be glad to get out from under his contract. Carter would also be a good option for us.

Very interesting. If we trade away Carriker, this puts us right back into the Suh sweepstakes. A rotation of Ryan, Scott, and Robbins isn't going to cut it and even with Carriker on board its pretty borderline.

I'm all for it. The Redskins have never been afraid to give up draft picks. What kind of reimbursemant do you guys think Carriker would receive? I'm guessing a mid round pick?

The interesting thing to think about it that he hasn't really shown he's a bust yet. He has just been injured. I wonder if that would play anything into it.

It would be great if we could get something of value for Carriker, but I don't think such a trade would impact our draft plans one iota.

Very intriguing rumor. And what a colossal embarrassment, literally & figuratively, for Snyder if Fat Albert has to be let go after one season.

                  Interesting indeed! Suuuuuh-whoooooo!

:ram: And yes, that kind of draft pick sounds reasonable.

could campbell somehow be involved? it would seem that if washington wants bradford, more specifically wants us to pick someone else with our pick, which pretty much ensures bradford falling to #4, that could interest them.

How does Haslett continued to get hired? I swear of all the defensive coaches, his defenses in the 2000s have probably been the worst in the NFL. He has this reputation of a good DC that is totally undeserved. I remember seeing what Saints fans were saying (he was an awful DC) and now I beleive the same thing they were saying after the 2005 season.

Anyway, let him have Carriker. I would let him go for a fifth rounder (since their's is high) and would pay for the plane ticket and a new apartment for Carriker if it's a third

Unlikely but I would do the following if they really want Bradford and Carriker.

                          Trade to WAS:
1st Rounder (They can pick Bradford)
Carriker (They get a 34 DE)
                          5th Rounder

This would be a great trade for Washington and the bone head trade of the decade by the Rams.
