We all know this post is intended to elicit negative responses. We also know that in the eyes of many fans the Rams haven't been active enough coming off a 1-15 year and a 6-42 mark over the past three seasons. Such a feeling is legitimate when you consider a recent part of the Rams' past. In 1999, after a decade of bad football and with Dick Vermeil in trouble, the Rams made some bold moves which resulted in a Super Bowl title. Marshall Faulk arrived. Trent Green came aboard (though we all know what this ultimately led to). A number of other talented players came aboard and emerged as solid contributors. On its face, the complaint the Rams haven't been active enough is a fair gripe.
However, one must look closer at the situation. There are no QB's on the market with the ability of a Trent Green. With our multitude of needs, we do not have the luxury of prying superstars from other teams using our own draft picks. Economics have changed the sport in a relatively short period of time, and signing high priced free agents for a couple of years just to make a splash and bring in a "name" guy is not smart.
A word I've hated hearing on this board is "patience", yet we have no choice but to practice it. This team will be built through the draft. Do not expect us to run out there in the next three weeks and acquire a couple of superstarts 'cause it ain't gonna' happen. You build through the draft, become respectable and THEN sign a couple of "name" free agents to compliment a solid roster. It is clear this is the approach favored by Devaney and it's a solid approach at that.
But all of this is moot if we don't get it right in April.

At this point in the rebuilding process, the Rams don't appear much improved over last year.
Certainly, a number of guys coming off injuries ought to help some, but after three straight years of horrendous football and a relatively inactive offseason to this point, a sarcastic remark or two about the progress of this team certainly appears warranted.

by GuestSteve Young is in the Hall of fame and that is criminal. How many millions was he paid under the table by the whiners? The fact that the NFL had to go to court and then that information was not released even to other NFL owners shows the gutless tendencies of the NFL. The NFL is mixed up with to many scams and to much cover-up. At least baseball had sack enough to make an example out of Pete Rose. The NFL allows Steve Young to keep his squeaky clean fake image through cover-ups and the Media likes to pretend that he was innocent. Is there anyone left in America with balls or are they all over in Iraq?

With the departure of Mike Martz, it seemed the the turmoil that ripped apart the Rams and which, by the way, I broke as a story, you see, I mentioned it in vague articles that never provided any details and then acted as if I predicted Mike Martz's downfall even though he was fired after missing most of the season due to illness which I couldn't have known about and, oh, by the way, I predicted that the Rams would actually have a winning season in 2005...
But, anyway... as I was saying, a new round of turmoil rocked Rams Park today, as an unnamed visitor to the facility was unable to extract a Milky Way from the vending machine. When this individual confronted John Shaw about the situation, he told me, er, him that it wasn't a team priority to rectify the situation.
Shortly thereafter, a senseless act of vandalism occurred within the complex, resulting in the destruction of the very same vending machine and the theft of several candy bars, and a number of delicious salted snacks.
This latest incident demonstrates that Mike Martz was not the problem. Rather, there seems to be an inherent problem that just does not want to go away.
In an unrelated story, I'll be skipping the draft again this year to watch a meaningless early season baseball game, where there will be far less competition at the media courtesy buffet.-
