TE for the Redskins. He stepped in for Cooley and was effective immediately. He's only 24 so he'll only get better. There's apparently some interest in Carriker from the Skins, maybe we could strike a deal up with him involved.

I totally agree. I also think Rocky McIntosh is very intriguing. Injuries have kept him from living up to his top second rounder expectations but he'd fill a big need at OLB.

As I've said before, throw in London & you've got a deal !
I think he's still mobile enough & definitely savvy enough to play weak or strong side for a few more years & back up Lau in the middle; a sort of bionic Chris Draft/Paris Lenon. If nothing else, London would surely accelerate Lau's development as a MLB with all his accumulated wisdom & they don't come any more four-pillared.

That's a pretty badazz LB corps: London, Lau, and Rocky with Vobora, Chamberlain ,and Grant in reserve.

EDIT ps Sorry, didn't mean to derail your specific topic. I really do like Davis a lot & just as there's a chance that some front seven guys may be less secure in Wash because of their switch to a 3/4, I think a second quality pass-catching TE like Davis may be poachable because Shanahan's O doesn't utilize the position quite as much that way as the prior regime. Shanahan likes a deep running TE-remember Sharpe- but I think two is a luxury they might forego to get a 3/4 DE for which they have no candidates like Carriker.

So what would newly acquired Na'il Diggs be doing?

To even consider something like that, it would have to wait until after the draft. I want a Gresham over a Davis. This draft will dictate a lot of future acquisitions..

Jeez, who'd want The Rams to go into TC with competition between genuinely decent options?

Diggs is depth on a good team, imo, at this stage in his career. And the deal I'm suggesting would be Davis AND Rocky plus London as a bonus. The Rams might have to throw in a late pick- we have all those 7th rounders- but I think it'd be worth it. It would have been more likely as part of a deal for the #1 pick but Wash is pretty screwed at 3/4 DE.

Davis, Fletcher, and McIntosh for Carriker and a 7th? Isn't that a little optimistic? Why don't we throw in Haynesworth and Santana Moss while were at it

LMAO...but I think Moss is on the wane. How about Orakpo?

Seriously, though, I don't think Carriker would rate more than a couple of mid picks at best-probably one this year & a conditional from next year, never mind Davis, except as part of the first round pick swap that the McNabb deal seemingly killed. It was a fun little dream while it lasted, though.

Id be surprised, given Cooley's injury last year, that the team would even trade Davis for Carriker straight up

Why is everyone so apt to trade Carriker. If he could stay healthy he could be an absolute pentration machine. At least give him this year to see if he can stay healthy, his potential as a Ram far outways the compensation we'd get for the guy imo. Give it one more go and see what happens when he's part of the rotation at DT.

Hear! Hear! I concur with this sentiment. I know many are willing to throw Carriker under a bus and I can certainly understand why, but I want to give this guy one more year to see what he can do.

As I see it this is especially the case since it is all too readily apparent that the Rams will be drafting Bradford and not Suh. If we dump Carriker now we could come up short at the DT position.

Let's keep Adam and give him one last chance to get it together.

Agree here for the most part, either keep him and see what he can do,or a swap for a player may be a better route to go. Someone like Andre Carter would be interesting, even though he is getting up their in years.? The Rams are not in too bad shape in my opinion at Carriker's spot. I know they lack a true stud though.
A corner is a bigger need of the Rams right now, and with the pass rush improved. The D could be start progressing.

Well this thread is more about adding a future elite receiving TE to the Rams and less so with dealing Carriker away. I just threw Carriker in there because there were some talks of interest in him from Washington.

Id find it hard to believe that the Redskins would trade away Davis if he really was a future elite TE. They made a big play for McNabb and now need to surround him with weapons

As the 2013 NFL Draft wound to a close and his name had not yet been called, safety Cody Davis had seen enough.

Surrounded by family and friends for the draft’s final day, a day they had all hoped would end with Davis being selected to a NFL team, any NFL team, Davis couldn’t bear to watch the final picks.

Excusing himself from the dinner table, Davis bounded off to a room by himself where he could have some moments to think. Those moments didn’t last long, though, as the most frenetic part of the draft – the end – were still about to take place.

Davis’ phone blew up as the seventh and final round wound down. Despite his best efforts to not get his hopes up about being drafted, Davis couldn’t help himself but now it was working against him.

With as many as 11 teams pushing hard to sign him to a free agent deal, Davis didn’t have much time to weigh all of the variables and make a decision.

“I had to figure it out as I go,” Davis said. “I kind of got my hopes up a little bit and didn’t worry about that stuff hoping somebody else would pick me and I didn’t have to worry about where I was going. But I was scrambling there at the end trying to figure out the best situation for me. My agent definitely helped me out with that too. It just came down to me and my wife making a decision.”

Davis quickly whittled the field down to the three most plausible options. Considerations in the decision included factors such as the coaching staff in place, the availability of opportunities on the depth chart and the makeup of the team.

The Rams, with an obvious need for help at safety, had clearly made Davis a priority. Coach Jeff Fisher himself had called Davis and offered an opportunity, explaining how he would fit in and making an offer.

Having Fisher make the call personally meant a lot to Davis, more so than even the relatively substantial signing bonus the Rams put in front of him as well. When all was said and done, Davis just felt St. Louis was the best place for him to pursue his NFL dreams.

Although the Rams had spent a third-round draft choice on T.J. McDonald of USC, they still wanted more reinforcements for the safety spot and Davis’ resume made him an obvious target when the draft was complete.

“We’re just glad that he wasn’t (drafted),” Fisher said. “We had a good grade on him. He had an outstanding combine. He’s a sharp young guy that plays special teams and he’s got cover skills and he can run and tackle. He’ll have a good opportunity.”

That Davis wasn’t selected in the draft is a bit curious in itself given the impressive resume he posted in his four years at Texas Tech and the work he did in the lead up to the draft.

Davis started all 49 games in his four-year career and finished eighth...

No pouting for Davis after demotion by Rams

                                November 13, 2014 10:40 am
                                By Jim Thomas [email protected]

Austin Davis' eight-week run as the Rams' starting quarterback is over, and there's no guarantee when he'll be back or if he'll be back in the starting lineup. In the NFL, you never know when or if that next opportunity will present itself.

And that's exactly why Davis won't be sulking after learning he was being benched in favor of veteran Shaun Hill for Sunday's noon kickoff against Denver at the Edward Jones Dome.

"I've always said that it's not about me," Davis told reporters Wednesday. "But I don't really have time to feel sorry for myself because we play Denver Sunday, and you're still one play way.

"So it's a different role. It's a different position. Hopefully what I've done, I've gained some respect in this locker room. I'm gonna continue to be the same guy, just a different role."

But in the overall picture, the role hasn't changed for Davis. He's always been an underdog as an NFL quarterback. Undrafted out of Southern Mississippi in 2012, cut from the Rams' roster at the end of the 2013 preseason, working as a volunteer high school coach about 13 months ago at Westminster Christian Academy in suburban St. Louis.

His locker stall at Rams Park remains tucked between the linebackers and offensive linemen _ not with the quarterbacks across the room.

As tough as it was to see coach Jeff Fisher walk into the quarterback room with the news of his demotion, Davis understands why the decision was made.

"I think you're graded on wins and losses," Davis said. "We didn't get as many as we wanted to."

The Rams were 3-5 with Davis at quarterback, playing a brutally tough schedule. Those eight teams Davis started against currently have a record of 45-28. Tampa Bay, which marked Davis' first NFL start on Sept. 14, is the only team among the group with a losing record at 1-8.

"This is a good football team," Davis said. "I just wish I could've played better at times and we could've played better offensively. The quarterback's the leader of that. So I take a lot of that on my shoulders and a lot of that responsibility. I think that'll serve me well later."

Davis has no hard feelings towards Hill, far from it.

"The reason that I was able to do what I did earlier this year was because of Shaun's support for me," Davis said. "I owe it to him to show him that same kind of support and same kind of respect, and be a great teammate. And be prepared. Nothing really changes as far as preparation goes and being ready to step in. When we started the season I was No. 2, so I just go back to that role."

Even with his recent slump, Davis' overall numbers weren't...

Al Davis and Lane Kiffin making up?
                                by MOM
I overheard the funniest conversation earlier this evening! Al Davis had apparently called Kiffin into his office, and at first I thought, "Oh boy, this is it! The Donald Trump moment!", but to my amazement, it didn't go down like that at all! Here's what was said....

Davis (looking really creepy): As you know, Lane, I haven't been too thrilled with you for some time now.

Kiffin (looking down at shoes): Yes, I know.

Davis (in his best Godfather impersonation): You have 30 seconds to make your case. Why should I keep you around here?

Kiffin (now smiling from ear to ear, looks into Davis' eyes): Scott Linehan still has a job! And he REALLY sucks!

Davis (breaking into a total belly laugh): That is so true! Good one there, kiddo, I needed that! Want a beer? I got some in the fridge right there.

Now, I'll spare the rest of the verbatim, but let us just say that the guys were going over the boneheaded moves by Linefartfaceknucklehead until the wee hours of the morning, laughing so loudly they could be heard halfway down the block. When it was over, there was nothing for Adam Schefter to report on, which is why we haven't heard much.
