  • Murphy and Gilyard: Old Friends.

Apparently third round pick Jerome Murphy and fourth round pick Marty Gilyard are old buddies. As soon as Gilyard was drafted Murphy was notified and they immediately began texting each. Back in the greatest show on turf days Wistrom and Pace were great match ups and routinely pushed each other and made each other better.

Murphy went on to say he was very much so looking forward to going against Gilyard and that they definitely were going to push each other. Looking at Murphy's style of play, he probably means both literally and firguratively...

Gilyard: "Scouts ask me all the time who's the best corners that i've played against. I tell them ya know, Jerome Murphy from South Florida and Devin Mccourty from Rutgers. The thing that made Jerome so good was Jerome's a headhunter man, he brings that real street physicality to the game, I was like, I was so happy when they told me I was getting drafted to the Rams, because I knew that my homeboy was there. Me and Jerome are real good friends. He texted me after he got drafted and I texted him after i got drafted. The Rams made a good choice on Jerome, becuase Jerome's not gonna be one of those rookiees that act like a derr in the headlights. Hes gonna be one of those guys that go in and try to take guys outs. He's a real solid tackler and when he gets to you he's gonna hit ya."

This is exciting. I like it when players know each other well because their friendship off the field can help the production on field. I'm excited for Murphy and Gilyard to be honest

Mardy & Jerome aren`t the only ones....

*from Hoomanawanui`s conference call transcript on the Rams official site*

(On catching passes from Sam Bradford)
“Yeah, that`s not a bad person to come in with, so I’m exciting (about) Sam and all these other guys. You guys have got Laurent Robinson down there from Illinois State. I’m excited to get down there with him. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him. He’s been kind of a mentor for me up here while I was in high school. I’m excited to get down there with Coach Leonard and Laurent and these guys I know and build relationship with everyone else as well.”

(On if Robinson went to the same high school as him)
“No, Laurent is from Florida so he’s nowhere from here. I don’t even know where the heck we met, but we built a relationship kind of. He helped me out through this process and talked to me and kept me going. It’ll be nice to get down there.”

(On Robinson mentoring Hoomanawanui when Hoomanawanui was in high school)
“Yeah, I had a good friend that made a highlight film for him and actually kind of worked with his agent at the time. Just through that we built a relationship and he’s been around it. He texted me the other day and he said he had a gut feeling that I was going to be a Ram. I had that sitting in the back of my mind so it will be nice to know someone down there already.”

all sounds good to me and will only benefit the Rams going forward...though James Butler being business partners with Tye Hill didn`t help Afro Smurf much...
