    but Barron signed the tender?
Lets put him at RT... Smith at Lt . Saffold at gaurd. Jacob and Brown... Thats seems like a solid line. Goldberg and greco off the bench.. Our line is strong if we can stay healthy.. Strong run game and if the D can also stay healthy... We are in a weak division , where all the QBs suck.. Do i dare hope?

I don't think it is a weak division anymore.

San Fran is now legitimately a smash mouth team.

Cards, although they have lost some talent, are still a very good team.

Seattle is also getting some good talent, and they are figuring heavily into the mix.

Not sure if this is a "have too" or "want to" move on the Rams part, but considering all the long term issues the Rams have had with Barron, its my guess is he is on shakey ground.

Perhaps more draft picks...other acceptable free-agents would have either seen Barron packing or relicated to two number 2

san fran did alright last year with alex smith..
also have to consider that this is his first season with the O Coordinator returning, every other year he's had a new oc.
plus the additions they've made, and they look pretty strong imo.

arizona have a big question mark, his name is matt leinart. i think a lot of their success depends on him.

seattle also have added some quality players but hasslebecks better days are behind him.
all in all, i think this division got a lot stronger than its been in recent years

Alex Smith progressed a lot at the end of last season. Now that he's going to have some stability, I think he may be something we have to worry about. Also, they drafted Davis and Iupati to protect Smith and kick up their run game.

The addition of Taylor Mays and Anthony Dixon turn them into a legit physical team.

Seattle is not going to be centered around Hasselbeck anymore. They're preparing for the rise of Charlie Whitehurst. WIth Golden Tate and Okung in there, Whitehurst has a good chance of having some success.

If Matt Leinert can even be some kind of QB, then the Cardinals will be alright. If he sucks it up, then we may pass them up in the division.

Az was a championship contender last year.. its safe to say they are not this year thus a worse team... why is everyone dancing around this point.... That alone makes us a weaker division from last year... Seattle has not improved and the backup doesnt scare anyone. Frisco might be the best team, but again ill take alex smith then any other Qb in the nfc

Eh, Smith could have a good year with Iupati and Davis being drafted. The Rams will be better then last year, heck, they may even finish second in the division if Bradford starts and has a Matt Ryan type of season.

Okay, so Arizona was a championship contender last year. And okay, they got worse this off-season. Does that mean we, as a 1-15 team, improved enough to close that big gap?

You say we are. I say maybe.

No one is dancing around any point, hold your horses.

Just because one team "decreases" in this division, that makes our division weaker? How about the mass improvement in San Fran, and the influx of new talent in Seattle?

I'm not saying we are bad, but you have to give credit to the other teams in this division, and you cannot immediately cast them off as being worse then us.

Of course Whitehurst doesn't scare anyone. He hasn't even played yet. Same as Bradford. But what happens if he plays and plays well?

                      Enough of Barron!!!!!
                      by 39thebeast
He has just been going down hill since shutting down Jared Allen. If he isn't holding he is getting beat. Too many penalties sub par pass blocking, never has been really good run blocking. IMO Jason Smith needs to be our starting LT ASAP!!! Hopefully he is over that concussion because we really need him.

What Is Alex Barron Worth To You?
                      by Bar-bq
With the amount of talent that's fallen to the fourth round so far and the large amount of holes we still have on our roster, I'm curious as to how the Clan would feel if we parted with Barron.

At the moment, I'm more than happy with Barron as our starter at RT for the final year of his contract. He'll be a veteran presence in the locker room and whilst he's far from the best first round draft choice we've ever made, he's a beacon of solidity barring his obvious inability to count. By now, we can safely say that he's not special, but he's not "special", either. I'd be content with Barron at RT and Saffold learning the ropes behind him or starting at guard for a year.

                      BUT.

I'd kind of like us to be in position to draft more than one of the top players who have fallen out of the first three rounds. If we have a chance to add Griffen and Hernandez via a trade for Barron, I would have to think about it long and hard. What's more, if we could package our 5's together to get into the late fourth, we could end up with three players of value, assuming they're not taken.

So what is Alex Barron worth to you? Would you take a fourth round pick in this year's draft in exchange for his services?

There are a number of teams who could use a starting caliber RT, especially those seeking to make a one-year crack at a Superbowl. The Colts, the Eagles and the Cowboys spring instantly to mind. On top of that, teams like Buffalo, Denver and Cleveland could all be looking to protect the investments they've made in QBs and RBs.

All of this begs the question: What is Alex Barron worth to you?

Does that sound like what it will be next year?

                      Can Grecco beat out Incognito?

Where is Schuening's future with this team? (I really like him)

Do you think Barron will be gone next year, and would Grecco be able to play RT? (I want him to stay, but I don't know if the Front Office does)

The Alex Barron Situation Has Become More Intriguing
                      by AvengerRam_old
At the start of the season, I thought the plan for Alex Barron was pretty clear... play him at LT so that Jason Smith could cut his NFL teeth at the RT spot, let him sign elsewhere at the end of the season, move Smith to LT, and find a new RT in FA or the draft.

That still might be the plan, either by design (because Smith clearly is the intended LT of the future) or by necessity (because Barron will seek LT $ in FA). But, given Barron's play lately, I have to wonder if the Rams might need to rethink the plan.

Simply stated, right now Barron is doing an above-average job as a starting LT. In fact, he may very well be the #2 LT on the FA market next year, behind San Diego's Marcus McNeil.

The question is... how do the Rams get value from the commodity? I don't see the Rams signing Barron to a big contract and keeping Smith at RT. I also don't see Barron taking RT money and switching sides once again.

The real issue will be the state of the FA system in 2010. If it continues as currently structured, the Rams could make a francise player offer and then try to trade Barron. Would there be any takers? Not sure. Despite Barron's improved play, I'm not sure there are too many teams who would part with a high draft cholce for the privilege of paying Barron LT $ on a long-term contract.

I don't have the answer here. Thoughts?

                      Our best Lineman is.....
                      by 39thebeast
Adam Goldberg, I don't know how this happened, but he has been quietly having a good season. Maybe it is our weird 3 tackle rotation. He had some great blocks in the run game and held up well against the pass.

With that said this tackle rotation is stupid. Barron is leading the NFC in penalty yardage and besides his game against Jared Allen he really hasn't impressed me. There is no point in putting him out there, I say just bench him this rotation is ridiculous. Smith is going to take his lumps and when it comes to RE's he isn't going to face alot better than Dwight Freeney who only got 1 sack. He is the future, put the kid there and let him get comfortable and stop making him switch sides. He was good in the run game, decent in the pass have faith in the kid he will only get better whereas Barron will just keep racking up the penalties and allowing sacks to names. Barron lets get reall he isn't coming back, IMO Goldberg has been playing well enough to stay at RT and he is actually signed through next year. Start Smith at LT and Goldberg at RT and lets keep working towards the future. While we are at it we might as well also start Grecco at RG. Get some continuity and some experience for people who will actually be here in the future. I honestly think it would be an upgrade in our line with a heck of alot more upside.
