(On DE Tyoka Jacksons hamstring injury)
Hes got I think a grade two hamstring. When these guys get hamstrings, about a week later they feel pretty good, they feel like they can go. But its not ready, you have to make them sit down on this thing. Hes played with everything, hes like Adam Timmerman, they just play. But this thing was pretty hard, pulling a hamstring.

(On if Jacksons injury put a stress on rotating the defensive line)
A little bit. It just means Tony (Hargrove) is going to get more repetitions. Really our starters play most of the game. We havent rotated like we did a year ago.

    (On DE Anthony Hargrove)
Hes fine. Hes going to be just fine, hes going to be a real good player. Hes learning, but he has the effort and physical ability. We just have to keep working with him, and getting him in there. The only way you learn that stuff is to play, and unfortunately sometimes youre going to make mistakes, but thats the only way youre going to get them better.

(On it being confusing for Hargrove moving him from right defensive end to left)
Yeah, that is confusing, its confusing for everybody. It doesnt sound that difficult for people. Its like tackle, going from a left-hand stance to a right-hand stance. It is really bizarre. Its not an easy thing to do for anybody.

(On Tampa Bay DE Simeon Rice)
He has speed. His get-off is pretty incredible, its like Leonards (Little). You have to be focused, because he can get you at any time, I dont care how good you are.

    (On T Orlando Pace)
I think hes playing extremely well. I think this is as well as hes ever played since hes been here, to be honest with you. That whole line has just gotten better. They have really just all come together. They have a terrific attitude, theyre doing things right, and are paying attention to all the little details. Im just tickled with their progress and where they are.

(On G Scott Tercero playing with an injury)
Its just one of those things that everybody is hurt in the NFL today this time of the season. Everybody has an ankle, a rib, or a wrist, or something, but you just have to play. Young players have to learn to do that. In college you get to sit out a week or two, it doesnt work like that in the NFL.

    (On QB Marc Bulgers shoulder)
Hes fine. He threw yesterday. He really wasnt strong yesterday, but he needed to throw yesterday. He said he felt great today, and hes back to normal. I was very concerned originally, but there is no effect on it at all.

(On Bulgers performance at the end of the game)
Hes been pretty good. Hes gotten better every week. He had one get away from him. He underthrew one, and one took off on him, he lost the ball, it slipped off his hand. The first one was my fault, we were just trying to lay one for Torry (Holt) and see if he could go get a play on third and medium. We thought they would sit on the run and they didnt, they played it pretty well.

(On him not wanting the players to dwell on the Seattle game)
Its a distraction. We want to keep that good feeling of winning, the confidence, and the great feeling that has. But one game does not make a season, we have an entire season left. We enjoyed it, but its still a distraction for this week. We have to stay focused on Tampa Bay. Its a great feeling, and a boost of morale. Most importantly it has given this team confidence and energy. But we need to move on and focus on Tampa, thats whats really important at this point.

(On him reinforcing to the team that they are never out of a game)
I was so proud of the way that they played that game in every phase, special teams, defense, and offense. The coaches kept coaching hard, they just kept trying to make a break. Players make plays, not coaches. There wasnt any magic play on offense, or magic defense, or return, we just had guys step up and make plays. Thats what winning is all about, players making plays.

    (On Tampa Bay)
Theyre not the same team offensively that they were, and thats what I told our football team. This football team will be very good on offense. (Brian) Griese is very accurate, gets rid of the ball very quickly, and their running game now is up and running. Theyre going to be a very substantial offense, its not the same offense that they were earlier. Now they have given life to their defense. This football team coming in here is going to be an excellent team.

    (On LB Robert Thomas)
That ankle is still bothering him a little bit. So well rest him like we did last week.

    Re: Martz on the Mike

I think the Rams still have something to prove in this game. Even with the miraculous comeback against Seattle, I'm not convinced they're a complete team yet. A big win would get the momentum rolling, but I don't doubt that the Bucs will bring their A-game. Do not underestimate them. They have had our number in the past. I expect this to be a close game and - as every game is - be pivotal to their future success.

(Opening statement) “Pretty good shape on the injury front. Orlando [Pace] did not participate much today in practice. He was out there. Didn’t feel great the last couple of days. Precaution is with these things is to go pretty slow, so we just kept him out. He probably felt pretty much like he did last week. That’s part of the evaluation with these things. We’ll evaluate him day to day here as we get closer to the game.”

(On Pace’s condition) “I’m not sure you’d say it was nausea, but he said his head’s not quite right. He just doesn’t feel quite right so we’ve got to be a little bit cautious with him, as we have been, but kind of do it day by day.”

(On when Pace will be evaluated) “I think every day we’re going to evaluate him. Evaluate him today, see how he feels after a full day at work, and do it again tomorrow. From what I understand, the evaluation process is part on how you feel and the other on how you may to respond to questions. The post-concussion syndrome is something that goes on and on and on for weeks so we’ll just keep an eye on him.”

(On if Pace took any blows to the head in Arizona’s game) “Not that he felt or we noticed, so it wasn’t anything like that. I think it’s just…he came back pretty quickly. He wouldn’t have been cleared had he not passed all the tests, but I think he’s still got to go through some of the residuals from that.”

(On if there’s a possibility of Pace sitting out against Detroit) “He could. I think it could go on for a while now. That would be a consideration if it got worse.”

(On if Pace should have sat out against Arizona) “Not from what I understand, because had felt this way as the week went out, he certainly wouldn’t have played. He improved so much that he was cleared to go. I’m not sure that sitting would have made him feel any better now. He said he started feeling worse as the week went on. That’s why we really evaluate it up until game time.”

(On his thoughts about the offensive line) “You’ve got to start with Richie [Incognito] because he started his first game as our left guard, and then, boom, he’s right over there at the center spot, and hadn’t really done it. I think he’s done a heck of a job making that move. We had a little bit of an idea that he could do it but you’ve still got to go into the games…I think he’s played very well there. Todd [Steussie] has been in the league so long, he understands how to play the position, even though he’s more comfortable at a tackle spot, he’s able to go in and function very well at the guard spot. Our right side, with Alex [Barron] and Adam [Timmerman], that really hasn’t changed, and up until Orlando’s injury, he’s been there. I’ve been really happy with the fact that they’re adjusting. We worked a lot last week with Adam in there at the left guard spot and Todd out there at...

      A TBO.com wire report

The Bucs discuss Monday night's game against St. Louis and other topics:

      WR TIM BROWN

(On Brian Griese coming in for Chris Simms) ''He came in and played great. It was incredible to see him really be flawless. The only bad thing is now you almost expect that every week and realistically, I think it's impossible for him to go out and play as well as he played last week. But, certainly, he can go out and play just as good and just as good would be good enough to win this game. So, we're looking forward to him going out and playing good football.''

(On the opportunities presented with St. Louis' defense being down) ''There are plenty of opportunities. You just have to keep it focused, do what we do and everything will work out. In this league it doesn't matter who the defense is. Denver came in here as the number one defense and we did everything but win the game. This team could come up and play very well defensively. You just have to go out and take care of opportunities and if you do that everything will work out.''

(On the dynamics that Griese brings to the team) ''The guy is cool as a cucumber. All day Sunday he just kept on saying, 'I just want to go out and have fun, man,' and never knowing that he would have the opportunity to go out and once he got the opportunity his demeanor never changed. He has the same swagger about himself. He did what he could do and was confident about going out and getting it done.''

(On whether Griese's style opens up the game more) ''He is a guy that is used to throwing the ball down the field but I think that the most important thing that you get with him is experience. The guy started a whole bunch of games in this league, has played well, has been a Pro-Bowl player in this league and that's what you get with him. It's not a matter of changing the game plan when he's in there, it's just a matter of knowing that whatever you call he's going to be very comfortable in executing.''

      T DERRICK DEESE

(On whether there is anything more exciting than Monday night football) ''No, not at all. Everybody gets to watch, so you have to bring your 'A' game.''

(On what Brian Griese was like in the huddle) ''He's loose. He's laid back. When he came in, it was like he had started the whole game. He had confidence, good poise and everything else. He was confident the whole way through.''

(On Griese playing so well off the bench) ''I think we have three great quarterbacks to be honest with you. At any given point, I think any of them could come in and fill in. He came in and did a great job. Now he is coming in and he is going to be a starter this week. We're ready to go out and play.''

Lots of good team quotes for the week
      by RamWraith
      Head Coach Scott Linehan

      September 19, 2007

      (Opening Remarks)

“Drew (Bennett), he got all of practice in so there shouldn’t be any issue with him playing this week. He was limited some, but just because we kept him out of things. Marc (Bulger) had full participation in practice. He was limited a little bit in his throwing, but he should be fine. Tye Hill did not practice. Richie Incognito did not practice. Claude Terrell had full practice and Pisa (Tinoisamoa) was limited. We’re headed in the right direction as far as getting guys back on the field. There shouldn’t be any surprises, hopefully we don’t have another Thursday like we had last week. Tomorrow we should be okay.”

      (On G Milford Brown)

“He’s fine. There was no problem with him recovering from post game. He was a lot better yesterday and he went full today.”

      (On T Alex Barron’s attributes)

“His athleticism. He’s ability to match up against speed. He has enough size to anchor. The ends aren’t getting any smaller these days. You go against some pretty incredible athletes over there. He’s been going against some pretty good ones on the other side. It’s kind of 50-50. He’s at the blind side of a right-handed quarterback. That’s very important for your quarterback knowing he’s going to see things to his right and to his left. He has to count on that guy and Alex’s No. 1 ability is to pass protect. He’s become a lot better run blocker as he’s progressed in his career. His overall talent. He’s really improved since he’s played for us in the last two years, and certainly since he came in the league.”

(On how to reduce the number of hits on the quarterback)

“You have to do it. The No. 1 best way to protect your quarterback is the run game. We have to get our run game going. It has not been satisfactory in the first two games. That has to be our strength – for our football team to run the ball offensively and to stop the run defensively. If you get your run game going there is a certain amount of respect that the defense gives the run game and it definitely helps your pass protection and puts you in better third-down position which is critical when you get in third-and-long or extra long. It gets the defensive ends; I know our defense is much, much better, when we get in those long-area situations because we’re equipped that way as far as our speed and all that. Until we do that it’s going to be a concern. There are other ways, protection schemes. It’s not always match protecting or keeping lots of people in. There is timing of routes. Everyone knows we have a deeper design to a number of our plays, but we have to pick and chose when we do those as well.”

(On averaging 5-6 yards a carry for a short period of time in each of the first two games)

      “We’ve managed...
