  • Can we please acknowledge how bad the turley injury hurt this team

we paid 11 million up front to get a right tackle that didnt need help. did anyone see turley give up sacks last year? No. We are getting killed on that side and it is destroying our offense. The turley injury was really crucial. I like grant williams but he isnt in the same hemisphere as turley as a player, i will fight that point out with anyone.

our linebackers just arent very good at all and the special teams are a debacle of biblical magnitude.

Agreed. Everyone who talked about how overrated Turley is in that one thread - I forget the title - is probably wishing they could have him now over Williams. Overrated or not, he sure played a heck of a lot better than Williams is now.

And with their first pick in the 2005 draft, the Rams select __________, RIGHT TACKLE.

I will agree...however, it doesn't change my opinion on Turley!

Is there any possibility that Turley could make a return?

I wonder if it really matters who the right tackle is? Think about it. Every since Martz arrived in 1999 the right tackle, no matter who is there, is a liability for the Rams. Miller, St. Clair, Williams(someone help me out here, I know there are more) have always been underachievers...or so we thought. Maybe the scheme puts too much pressure on the RT? Even Turley last year looked pretty awful. I mean, he was okay but I didn't feel any great trepidation about losing him. He was a pro-bowler in New Orleans and he looked average at best for the Rams. Maybe he would have been just fine if he didn't have the back problems and we wouldn't be talking about this stuff but as it stands, the o-line is a mess again.

If everything to the right of Orlando Pace is always a mess and a liability in some form or another maybe the problem is somewhere else. The Rams have had quite a bit of turnover on the o-line and the players being brought in aren't any better than the players being replaced. Who takes the blame for such a thing?

This is an interesting point. The right tackle is going against the defense's left defensive end, which is typically the pass rusher and better end of the defense. I suppose that's the logic behind getting someone like Turley, a Pro Bowler who is more of a natural right tackle, to try and fill those shoes.

I'm not sure how one would change the scheme to ease the pressure on the right tackle besides leaving a tight end or RB to help block that side more often.

Yes, a healthy Kyle Turley would have made a very considerable difference at RT.

Allright, GC, I'll own up to this one. During preseason, I made the statement that the only difference between Turley and Williams is their salary. And I now openly admit, I was wrong.

Williams has slipped every week. From his play in the past, I know he is better than he is playing. I'm wondering if he has some kind of injury, because I've never seen a player continually downgrade like he has without having some kind of unreported injury. Either way, Nick is right. Our 1st round pick has to be an OT, which is unfortunate because it needs to be a CB.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

And it'll probably be a cornerback, because our front office really doesn't like spending first round picks on linemen regardless of need. Chances are we'll take someone on day two and try to whip him into shape.

I completely agree with you. The Offensive Line was really poor the seaso before we signed Turley, and we looked a lot better with him last season. We are stuggling badly without him.

We gave up alot for Turley also. A second round pick for a T to play one year.

He hasn't officially announced his retirement. Maybe he'll pull a Ricky Williams and realize he wants to keep playing (albeit we're not suing him to get bonnus money back... although maybe that's an option).
