  • Not impressed with NFC West

I personally feel that it is wide open, for the Rams to take. The 9'ers did last yr, what they were supposed to do....THREE yrs ago. Personally, I'm looking for a decline from them. I for one can't wait till Brockers is back, as that front 4 looks sick, espc, with much improvement in the secondary. I said before that I liked the moves done by the new front office. And yes, I have put my money where my mouth is, and bet on them winning the super bowl. The odds are simply way too good to pass up on a team that can easily win the division if they stay healthy. After that, anything can happen once the 2nd season starts. 'Nuff said.

I Think the 9ers are head of the class in the West, but they will come back to the pack this year. Can't wait to see what kind of start they get off too. They are the sexy pick, I see a lot of media types picking them to win the SB. They open on the road at Green bay and the face a pissed off Lions team after they dropped their opener to us.

Hawks are good but not great and are starting a rookie QB. No guarantee how that will go.

Cards, well if you think we a have a shaky O line, take a look at the Cards O line.

Cardinals quarterbacks were sacked 21 times in the preseason, which averages out to just more than four times per contest. While some of those takedowns can surely be blamed on inexperienced (or bad) QBs holding the ball too long, and others can be pinned directly on D.J. Young's inability to block anyone, it would be naïve to think things will magically improve in Week 1.
Not even going to get into both the Hawks and the Cards spent big money on QB's and neither one of them will be starting.

I'm not impressed with the west either, but the Rams are part of that equation. I am more worried about what WE do and whether or not we're on the right track than i am about Seattle or Arizona in particular. I think we're in a better situation than either of those two teams, both of whom have major question marks at QB and elsewhere. But we gotta' get a couple of wins under our belt before we seriously talk about overtaking anyone.

Unbrideled enthusiasm ......we shall see what type of team we have this Sunday...But Sosa is correct, we are tied for first RIGHT NOW. Let's see how many times we can say that after this Sunday.

Personally I think the Whiners are the team to beat in the West. I'm not at all concerned about the trads or Seagulls. Super Bowl?? no but we have a shot at winning the division yes...

Interestingly enough, the last time the defending Super Bowl champion lost its opening game was... 1999.

There always seems to be a team that "over achieves" in the NFL and is then found out the following year. Two years ago it was the Atlanta Falcons - great regular season record without doing anything special, bombed in the Play Offs and pretty irrelevant last year. I have wondered if last year's over-achievers would be the ***** as a lot of their wins were of course against mediocre divisional opponents.

At least now we have a proven Head Coach, I feel confident that we will be more credible opposition ourselves this year.

Re: Not impressed with NFC West

It is a passing league and if they can keep Sam upright then I would say the Rams still have the best QB in the division. That alone should give the Rams a decent chance at winning the NFC West. The ***** had a season last year where everything went right for them until the NFL championship game. They were remarkably healthy, won a huge amount of close games and there is no way Alex Smith will be able to throw only 5 interceptions in 2012, especially with them getting Moss and Manningham and expecting Smith to try to throw downfield more often.

The Seahawks were pretty strong on defense and in the run game in 2011 but I doubt Lynch will be able to remain a dominant RB considering he played 4 years in the league nowhere near that level of play. I also don't think having a rookie 3rd round draft pick at QB has ever resulted in a playoff birth.

I don't think I have to explain why I feel comfortable with the Cardinals not making the playoffs as long as teams like our own figure out not to punt to Patrick Peterson. If John Skelton and that O line lead a team to the playoffs then I think that confirms that the world will end in 2012.

The Rams are strong at QB(compared to the rest of the divion), CB and DE which are the most important positions in today's NFL. If the team can stay relatively healthy then they certainly have a shot at winning the West. This thread has given me hope and made me decide to get the NFL Sunday ticket so I don't have to watch Rams games on a crappy stream anymore. LongBlood you just made the NFL/Direct TV $300.

We hear/read about how bad the NFC West is. Even called the NFC worst. I say let's wait a few weeks before the name calling starts.

You play to win the game (s)!

I think the Bucs were a prime example of the over achieving one season then flopping the next.

Funny, I just paid for the NFL/Direct TV package on my PS3. I still plan on going down to the local sports bar and watching the game this Sunday, and I'll be in one of my Rams jersey's and LA Rams hat, but I now have access to those games in the afternoon and I can stay in and watch 'em all...

I am jacked up for this weekend. I'm preparing for a rough start, but hoping there's an upset comin'.

Everybody's excited about their team in this division. Some sports writers have the Rams and ****** possibly taking over the division, and others seem to think that the Hawks did just enough to keep their crown. As for the Cards! well, everybody's kinda staying away from predicting anything from them. So, it looks like this entire division is up for grabs and its gonna come down to who wants it more. Its obvious there's talent in this group of teams throughout their rosters and what matters most will be who gels as a team faster and which team stays healthy longer throughout the season. If you want an answer thats as good as gold, ask the fans...we know best. This fan says the Rams are going to the SB baby!!!

Two and a half weeks into the new season and the best conclusion I can come to about the state of affairs?

                                This must be Hollywood.

There are more sub-plots and scandals, more topsy-turvy oddities, and more budding Cinderella stories than can be found at the original Mickey Mouse Club auditions.

If Walt were alive, he’d be rolling over in his grave.

As advertised, our NFC West teams have commenced to knocking the crap out of each other, almost like the only feasible movie script that could be applied here. This division is as much up for grabs now as it was two weeks ago.

If I had just woke up from a month-long coma, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit to find out that the San Francisco ***** have the same record as the Houston Texans and the Detroit Lions. But I’d probably hock up a parakeet when I learned that they all are sitting at the tops of their divisions with 2-0 records.

                                Is it a fluke?

                                Duh.

Here in the West are housed four of the best running backs in the league. Arguably the two best quarterbacks in the NFC, and a selection of wide receivers that would send any newbie offensive coordinator back to having wet dreams, and any opposing “D” man back to AA. And to top it all off, with all this fire-power that resides in this one division, the undefeated team has exactly one of these players, and hasn’t even put up more than 190 yards of offense in either “victory.”

Suggestion? Let the movie play out.

Assessment? We got this. Is that a bold assessment? Not really when you consider this.

It’s a game of inches. About six more of them off the foot of Wilky’s leg would have taken away one of the Niner’s victories, and had they not had an extra layer of skin on their teeth, the Cardinals would have taken away the other.

Mike Nolan has got to be sweating more than Mike Vick watching Old Yellar.

In the mean-time, those same Cardinals beat up on the Seahawks for the great majority of that victory, and come this week, the rest of their confidence will be shot – at home – at the hands of Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson.

If you look at it reasonably and rationally, the only teams that appear to have more upside headed their way than down are the Rams and the Cards and I still don’t see the Cards pulling it out in the first year with their new coach.

The Rams on the other hand are making positive strides with the defense, and Marc Bulger and the boys will be exploding very quickly.

Who knows, maybe all of these teams will finish under .500, but I doubt it.

But one thing I do know is that Hollywood has invaded the NFL, the Rams have been written in as the sucker-punch, and the 'Niners division title is about as likely as O.J Simpson buying a ten-speed and going Mormon.

                                .

People have been calling the NFC West the weakest division in the NFL for years now. They can say what they want, but the fact is that the West has represented the NFC in 4 of the last 10 Super Bowls, more than any other division.

I don't know about you guys, but I enjoy rooting for other West teams in the playoffs to represent us well. If we can't beat 'em out during the season, I'd rather see them take it all the way than any other team. The only exception for me was rooting for the Steelers vs. Seahawks, only because I personally can't stand Hasselbeck, but I was pulling for them throughout the playoffs up to that point.

If you find it difficult rooting for our West rivals in the playoffs, remember that one benefit of other West teams making it far in the playoffs (or esp. into the SB) is that their roster and coaching staff is usually raided by other teams afterward, boding well for the Rams in following seasons.

                                Go NFC West!

The schedule is out and it appears two divisions get to run the NFC WEST gauntlet of defenses, AFC WEST/NFC Central.

Its really to early to make predictions as to who wins or loses, but its safe to say lots of teams are not happy seeing 4 games in their schedule, those against the Rams/49Whinners/Cards and Squawks.

                                Question:

Who does your guts say survives and who likely parishes running the gauntlet? Does anyone think teams like the Broncos or the Eagles have a shot at making AFC/NFC conference championships or does teams like the Colts and Packers who don't get to run the gauntlet have a better chance?

                                Hey all,

This may a bit out of the ordinary, but the Seahawks fan is here to say congrats to the Rams and the rest of the NFC West for a great day yesterday.

It feels great that the media has to sit up and take notice, considering what the Rams, Hawks and Cards did yesterday.

I see that we are still getting abused by a lot of the media "Cowboys mistakes cost them the game" "Redskin penalty cost them game" "Patriots miss game winning field goal", but whatever, we'll never be in the NFC East, so let's take what we can get!

Normally I shouldn't root for you guys, but I say screw it, we'll let the divisional games decide the winner and pound on the rest of the NFL until they fear playing our division no matter which team.

I saw your Lions game last week and that could have gone either way. Definately feel better about our loss in Arizona after their Defense shut down the almighty Pats at home.

Look forward to playing the Rams in a couple weeks!
