  • The Brockers effect?

Its tough to evaluate the progress of a DT based upon individual statistics. Though, as happened yesterday, a DT will occasionally make a big play such as a sack, the primary job of a DT is to take on blockers, hold the line and clog the middle.

So, how is Michael Brockers doing?

In the first three weeks, Brockers was recovering from an ankle injury. During those weeks, the Rams gave up an average of 120 rushing yards per game on 27 carries for an average of 4.5 yards per carry.

In the last four weeks, Brockers has been a starter and the Rams have given up an average of 83 rushing yards per game on 24 carries for an average of 3.5 yards per carry.

If you eliminate his debut, and look at the last three weeks, the improvement of the run defense is even more dramatic. The Rams have given up only 50 yards per game on 20 carries for an average of 2.5 yards per carry in the last three games.

Now, to be fair, this is only a small sampling, and the teams the Rams played in the first three weeks have an average rank in rushing yards/game of 9.7 while the teams the Rams have faced in the last four have an average rank of 17.5.

Still, I think it would be appropriate to assert that Brokers has made a significant positive impact on the run defense. And, given that he's not even 22 years old, I believe he has only scratched the surface of his potential.

It is not at all difficult to see why the Rams were so high on him in the draft. I think he will prove to be well worth the 14th pick.

I thought Brockers was outstanding yesterday. They were double teaming him by the end of the game and he more than held his own.

Brockers was starting to come on in every game in the preseason and he is doing it again. Man he has been pushing the pocket and at times just blowing up running plays. He has a great line coach, after we drafted him the commentators where saying Brockers was nothing more then a run stopper. Mike Waffle said we will see about that, he thinks he will become a beast!

Brockers hasn't come close to reaching his full potential. How exciting is that?? With Long, Quinn, and Brockers, we're one component away from building another Fearsome Foursome.

Brockers had a really great game yesterday. It's exciting to see him play lately.

His spin and sack was fantastic.
