  • I saw the problem last night

In glaring fashion. I went back and watched some tapes and its the same story, all year long!

Our defensive players are engaging in blocks. I am not sure why??? We are not shedding anyone, but instead we are taking the blocks on. We are going low attempting to plug the hole with the blocker. I am not sure if our guys are being taught this or what. You will see the biggest culprits of this is Archuleta, Thomas, Polley and Coady.

To me its elementary football that you teach defensive players to shed rather than engage. Go back and watch the tapes, you will see it!!

Yes, that part of the problem on defense, Just 5 more problems to address on defense then we can move to offense, special teams and coaching...

I see it too RW. Another thing I see is the D is slanting and stunting the wrong direction of the play.
I don't know who is calling the plays on D but they need to be FIRED yesterday.

And our D-backs are lining up ten yards deep instead of punching the receivers at the snap.

Only 3 more problems to go...

The lapses on defense may not have been play execution, but rather defensive play calling?

Far too many times the Rams entire front four was slanting to the Left or Right. The OT that was away from the slant sealed the corner, which was now at the 3 or 4 hole rather than 7 or 8 hole. Simple staright ahead runs turned into 30 yd gashes by Davenport (who we made look All World). This type of DL play was similar to the DL debacle during the Carolina game last year. However, Wistrom was just getting beat, I do not recall him slanting to the inside.

Back when I was in HS (the old days), our defense would run plays like that, but the idea was to block off a gap by slanting. We did that because we were smaller than the OLs we faced.

I also noticed tha GB knew when the Rams were going to slant. Marmie did not disguise or confuse the offense with his plays or formations. GB knew they could beat the Rams D from the first series of the game.
