  • Back to Square One

I really thought it would be different this time. A proven head coach. A young, energetic GM. An owner spending the big bucks to ensure success. And last year's 7-8-1 mark after a dreadful 10-65 mark spanning several seasons of futility giving us hope. Turns out it appears to all be one big tease- and yet another twist of the large knife stuck in every Ram fan's back for the last decade.

The offensive line blows. DeVaney and company spent millions and tried like hell to upgrade the line only to have injuries and ineffectiveness doom their efforts. Two years later, the line still sucks, Saffold is hurt again, there's no run blocking and Bradford is on his back every 5th play. Seems like we could have John Hannah, Joe Jacoby, Jackie Slater, Art Shell and Larry Allen on our line and still find a way to **** it all up.

It is unfathomable to me how this coaching staff could think this collection of stiffs at the RB position would be enough to compensate for the loss of SJax. These guys are so bad it's pathetic. Tonight's performance was as bad as any I've seen in 40 years of watching Rams football. Unwatchable.

Bradford sucked. I've defended the guy, sung his praises, still feel he's capable of being a winning player and am hopeful he'll have a good year when all is said and done. But tonight he showed why he has legions of critics- missing Pettis on the TD early. Poor reads. Probably could've been picked 3 times if it weren't for drops by the d-backs. Fumble inside our own 5. Poor footwork in the pocket to avoid pressure. It's not always the fault of the line or the receivers. He's not where he needs to be if the Rams are to be successful.

The defense- supposedly the team's big strength going into the season- is a monumental disappointment. Another running back had his way with us tonight, plus a 29 yard TD by a back-up tailback. Where is the pass rush? Other than Quinn, nobody has done anything. And the pass defense is no better. Finnegan is finished. If he could be cut tomorrow, it would be a blessing.

Every year it's the same rationalization; "we're young", "we have a tough schedule", "we have a new (insert position coach/coordinator/head coach/ here)", "the division is stacked". Over and over and over again. When will it end? Blind faith and masochism keep me here. If I had a brain in my head, I'd never watch another Rams game.

Special teams are a joke and have been since Vermeil left. They were horrible under Martz and in 2013, they are a carbon copy. Other than specialists Hekker and Zeurlein, the coverage teams are pathetic- can't open lanes for an electrifying returner and can't keep from committing penalties when something good happens.

I cannot believe how bad a Jeff Fisher team is playing. Penalties. Regression. Bland offense. Last week, I defended Schottenheimer. After watching tonight, I apologize to those who ripped him. No imagination. No stretching the defense. Underutilization of personnel. An inability to get the most out of guys' ability.

My depression now rivals that of the Linehan and Spagnuolo eras. One thing is certain; if we lose to Jacksonville at home after a 10 day break, we'll have come full circle. And once again we'll be wondering when this team's fortunes will finally turn for the better. Just absolutely beside myself right now.

NJ Ramsfan1, I think you perfectly articulated everything every Rams fan is feeling right now.

So, this is what it's like to have repeating nightmares.

            Re: Back to Square One

Spot on post. There is so much wrong with this team right now, from top to bottom. And speaking of top, Fisher promised to clean things up when there was criticism during the preseason over penalties, drops, and tackling. He said he wasn't worried. Well, is he worried now? I know I am.

Talk about letting the air out of the balloon! The RAMS are on Thursday Night Football via the NFL Network. Exciting to me to say the least....

I'm still having flashbacks of Bradford stepping up in the pocket to avoid pressure only to miss his receivers by a mile! He couldn't have thrown the ball in the ocean last night. Very embarrassing and I watched the entire game from start to finish....What an emabrrassing showing by our team at home no less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                Re: Back to Square One

You all have articulated my thoughts very well. So I will simply say....agreed. But as the old Brooklyn Dodgers used to say, "there's always next year" I am so tired to looking forward to the draft for redemption.

                Go Rams!
