  • If Rams leave, Do you remain a fan?

I'm 30 - My childhood was spent in Los Angeles, meaning I was an LA Rams fan from 4 until 13 or whatever, when they moved to St Louis. I stayed a Rams fan, always have been a Rams fan, even living in Dallas now w/ the Cowboy bandwagon ride at full force. I really couldn't help it - even tho they moved, they just had a place in my heart.

So my question to the St Louis folks is - will you still be a fan? I visited St Louis for 4 days, went to casinos, talked with a lot of locals - I couldn't even find someone who gave a darn about the Rams. This was in 2011. It was all Cardinals, and when I brought up the Rams, it was like I was speaking Chinese.

    Whattya think?

The Rams left when I was 25. I remained a fan. So St. Louis will you do the same???

I live in neither St Louis or LA. The only time I came close to abandoning rooting for this team was when they traded Eric Dickerson. Yes I'll still be a fan.
      The restoration is complete!

I currently go to every game. With that said I will stay a casual fan if they leave. I won't mind watching them if they come on TV but I won't get DirecTV and I would be loyal to a new team if one were to come to St. Louis. I think a lot of LA fans that still follow them are those they grew up with them and still have hope that they are coming back. If they leave St. Louis, they are definitely not coming back. The Greatest Show on Turf and the Super Bowl win will always be good memories but I can move on if they leave. It would prove that the owner could care less about St. Louis so why would it be bad for the fans in this area to not care about the Rams anymore?

Completely understand where you're coming from. The one thing that I cannot understand is those random Rams fans in St Louis that say they'll go back to rooting for the Arizona Cardinals. I just can't figure out how that works.

You got me there, I have no idea why they would root for that team with their current coach. That man is a piece of work. I will admit that I didn't mind watching them when Warner was the QB but I don't like them now. I can only assume that those fans are 40 and above age wise. I barely remember the Cardinals being here and went to my first football game when the Rams came. I remember watching Tony Banks and Jerome Bettis play from the nosebleed sections. Those were the early days for the Rams in my mind. :-)

Good for you G. Yes, same here, fan for life. My interest in the Rams began in the late 50s, was a fan by 1960 then became a real diehard Ram in 1964. L.A., STL, back to L.A.[?] ... Go Rams!

I root for the nickname, not the city. Maybe I'd feel differently if I rooted for my local team, but I don't. As long as they're "The Rams", they'll have my support.

I can totally understand where you're coming from here....

I grew up in the south bay, Manhattan Beach area to be exact. I grew up a Ram's fan. When the owner-who-shall-not-be-named screwed the team and the fans by sending good players away with the intent of driving down attendance (because the OC and LA refused to give in to her demands for a new stadium) and driving away fan support for the purpose of moving them to her beloved St Louis, I was angry and vowed to "find a new team."

...but there was no team to get behind in the area at that time.

There was a zero chance of becoming a Raiders fan had they stayed in LA,or a Whiners fan because they're in California. I would give up watching the sport if that were my only choice. The closest team was the Chargers, and I became a silent Chargers fan even though my heart still followed the Rams in St Louis despite what my brain told me.

I believe in supporting the local team but there was no team to follow. ...so I continued to follow the Rams, even though I refused to buy anything with the "St Louis" name on whatever it was I was buying, if I had the choice. It had to say only; "Rams" or the logo. It angered me that the team was taken away from me after so many years of loyal support. I did not blame, nor do I to this day blame the fans of St Louis. That blames goes solely to the owner-who-shall-not-be-named. To this day, I hate her for that.

But I understand wanting to root for "the home team." ...and what I'm saying is that had a team replaced the Rams (other than a handful of teams) when they up and left, I would have abandoned the Rams and called that new team "my team." Mostly out of spite, I think, but I wanted a "home team" to call my own, and the Rams no longer fit that bill. ...but no other team did as well.

Somewhere deep inside of me said that the Rams would return, mostly I think because I just never accepted the fact the someone thought that Missouri would be a better home to the Rams than LA. LA was the Rams, the Rams were LA. St Louis Rams never sounded right to me. I don't know why, but I always believed that they would return where they (in my eyes anyway) belong.

Now it is about to happen.

However.... if this "back to LA" is just a sorry ploy to gain leverage and keep the Rams in St Louis, AND LA gets the Chargers instead to call it's own, I will have had enough of the pain that this franchise has given me (more pain than joy I hate to say) and I will give up my Rams and replace them with the local team, the LA Chargers. So, if the Rams do not come, and the Charger do, I will give up on this franchise. Enough is enough. I can't take two heartbreaks in one life time.

Well said, fair enough loyal fan.

Photo above, foreground: Olsen, Jones, and Pardee (all three now deceased). Rams hosted the Chicago Bears at the L.A. Coliseum, Dec. 8, 1968. It resulted in a heartbreaking 17-16 loss and with it the opportunity to enter the playoffs. 1966 thru 1971 were all winning years for the Los Angeles Rams, not to mention the fabulous 50s era.

Below, 1951: L.A. Rams celebrate their NFL Championship after defeating the Browns 24-17 in the Coliseum. The next seven years saw huge attendance crowds at the Coliseum, including a record-setting 102,300 ticket holders in 1957. The Rams were very, very popular that decade.

But ... come to think of it, I'd feel rather strange if the Rams were in Seattle, Frisco, or Dallas.

I'm curious about the feelings towards those who are returning to Rams fandom because of the move to LA. Those who have been in limbo or with a different franchise for 20 years? How do Rams fans feel about this particular demographic?
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I am a Rams fan. Not an L.A. Rams fan, not a Cleveland Rams fan, not a St. Louis Rams fan. You are either a fan of your city or a fan of the Rams. If you are a fan of your city then please excuse yourself from Rams nation. I followed the Rams from LA to St. Louis and now back to LA. If you are done with the Rams because they moved then be done. Breaking up is hard to do but sometimes you just gotta let go. No reason for parting shots and bitterness just let go. There is a thread for no excessive celebration well let's not be excessively bitter either. So what are you a Rams fan or a city fan?

A change of pace general off season type topic for a boring Tuesday morning. I want to hear some of your stories that made you a fan of the best franchise in the NFL!

For me I was a St. Louis native when the Rams were still in LA. I ended up moving mere days before the Rams officially moved to St. Louis. Since I moved to a non-nfl market (Redskins don't count) city, I adopted the Rams regardless to complete the trio of St. Louis professional sports teams.

                                Let's see what ya'll got!

Met a guy the other day wearing a Ram's shirt. Commented on it & he replied that it was the only clean one in his closet or he'd have worn something else. When I questioned him he said he didn't want to even talk about "THEM". Asked why, he replied they had let him down cruelly & he would be a long time getting over it. Couldn't figure out how, as Conference champs they had let anyone down & said so! And then the truth came out after much spluttering, "Besides, I lost 500 bucks on them!!!" Now, my question is: Is this a Rams fan & if there are any more like him out there can we send them to LA with a one- way ticket on a leaky boat??????? If you're not a fan when they lose, you're not a fan!
