    Whats the poop with Lovie???

Can we loose this guy after this year?? I do believe he is going to be a hot ticket after this year to be a head coach. Is there anything holding him back??

God I hope not we are moving the right direction defensivly and it would suck to have the rug pulled out.

i'm sure he'll get a head coaching job, but probably not next year. His name may be thrown around a bit, but it would be tough to do that kind of jump, just my thoughts, but we'll see i guess.

I think Lovie came to the Rams with the primary goal of going to the Superbowl. If the team does not make it this year, I think he will stay at least another year.

Even if the team does win it all this year, it would be amazing if Lovie went from linebackers’ coach to head coach in 2 years.

I really, really, REALLY hope that Lovie stays with the Rams for a long time. Unfortunately, I think his tenure with the Rams is limited.

We've got enough to worry about just getting the Rams back to the Super Bowl. Could we fret about this after the season is over? I have enough stress as it is.

Lovie Smith turned the worst defense in the NFL to [in my opinion] the best defense in the recent history of the NFL... We Love U Lovie

Lets hope he stays with us for a long time.

          Team President John Shaw

          News Conference

          Monday, January 02, 2006

          (Opening statement)

“Earlier today I spoke with Coach Martz, and informed him that he was being terminated as the head coach of the Rams. We have decided that a change in our head coaching position is in the best interest of the football team. We deferred taking any action until we were sure that Coach Martz had regained his health. His doctor advised us that Mike was fully recovered on January 1, 2006, which as you know was yesterday.”

“I want to express my appreciation to Coach Vitt and the coaching staff for their hard work in trying to maintain stability under very challenging and disruptive circumstances. I thank them for their efforts.”

“I will begin a search for a new head coach immediately. Our mission has always been, and continues to be, to be one of the premier franchises in the NFL. I want to assure our fans and our players that we are committed to putting a championship caliber team on the field. That will be foremost in our thinking as we conduct our search for a new head coach.”

(On what type of coach is being sought)

“A coach that we think will improve our product and put a more competitive team on the field right now.”

(On why Coach Martz was terminated)

“There were several reasons, including the general direction of the team. I can’t really pinpoint at what exact time we made a decision to change our coach. But like I said, we were going to defer any action until he had regained his health. “

(On when the decision was made to make the change)

“Again, it’s difficult for me to pinpoint the exact moment, and it was all somewhat academic because we weren’t going to do anything until we were assured through Mike’s doctor that he was healthy.”

(On what was Coach Martz’s reaction)

“I spoke to Mike earlier this morning. I guess there was a sense of expectation that it was going to happen. He was very cordial.”

(On whether he has timetable for hiring a new head coach)

“We don’t have a timetable. We will begin the search immediately, and hopefully get it done as quickly as we can.”

(On whether the number of opening in the league forces the search to go more quickly)

“No, we have identified a list of candidates. It’s quite a wide list. We will do this immediately, but diligently. I know there will be a number of coaching vacancies, but we will do it in a way that suits us.”

(On whether the hiring of a new head coach will necessitate a restructuring of the front office)

“It will start with a head coach. I’m not prepared to discuss...

          A Change at Head Coach
          by Rambos
Does this really make you a better team? I see this all the time; teams change coach after coach and they still seem to lose more then they win. Take the whiners, they changed coaches are they better now or are they looking for the next coach.

We changed one coach or Defense coordinator or we better or worse? There is way too much credit given to any head coach when teams win.

It’s all about the players, health and the roll of the ball if any team has a chance to go all the way. To make a change at head coach is to say that everything you have achieved over the last five years was some kind of fluke and now we need to get it right. When the only way that is right is the one that is working for the team that just won it all. Great defense wins championships, balance teams win it, special teams win it, great offense wins it, and really the best team that stays healthy and catches a few breaks along the way wins it not just the head coach. Most fans are like impatience investors they buy a stock and within weeks wants to sell it for the next best thing.

I would like to see Martz finish out the decade as our head coach, give him the opportunity to become one of the best head coaches this team has ever had. Funny this coming from the guy that still is pissed at him for not letting Warner finish what he started, but I for one would like Martz to finish here. Football is somewhat like a business cycle everyone at some point looks like a genius and then an idiot and if you stick at it long enough you might just become that genius again.

How about this for head coach?

What would you all think about Mike Singeltary for Head Coach. I do not think there is any question he would bring a LOT of intensity to the table.
