The draft is like rolling dice. In the 1979 draft, Bill Walsh of the Niners wanted to draft QB Steve Fuller with their number 1 draft pick, but, the Chiefs took him with their draft pick. So Walsh went to plan b, they drafted UCLA's RB James Owens (who was a bust) and with their 3rd round pick they took a skinny QB from Norte Dame named Joe Montana. So even a genius needs luck. The Rams in the 1957 draft took Jon Arnett from USC. Dan Reeves (owner of the Rams) thought a local college hero would help at the gate. By the way there was a Syracuse running back still on the board named Jim Brown. Virtually 30 years later the Rams did the same thing taking Gaston Green of UCLA passing on Thurman Thomas. Heck, two Ram greats went in the 14th round, Deacon Jones and Larry Brooks. So I hope Armey selects the right dice this 20th and 21st.

Dod, thank God I am not in charge. In the 75 draft I was with Doug Krikorian (a reporter for the LA Herald Examiner) who believe the Rams were idiots for not taking Anthony Davis of USC. They took some nobody name Dennis Harrah (not bad, huh?). If I may ask is there any Welshman Ramfans your way? Since my Father was born in the Rhondda Valley and his favorite movie was "How green was my valley".

Dennis Harrah , now there's a name, always enjoyed that offensive line blasting holes for Dickerson and the RB's that followed.
If you're looking for welshmen then Rob's yer man, I think he's in exile in England at the moment but I'm sure he'd be pleased to hear from another exile

Let me tell you, I have been to Great Britian twice and I know that they got the idea for National Lampoon Vacation from the first trip. Their is a million stories I could tell but I tell just one. It was July of 1973 and my Father wanted to show us where he was born. First, every taxi driver over there is missing his boat. EVERYONE could sell ice to an eskimo. Great personalities. But I swear everyone one said this. I would get in they would see my LA Dodger hat on and say "oh, your an American" I would say "yes". Then they would say (everyone) "you know, we could of beaten you back in 1776 if we wanted to" like it just happened last Sunday. Joe Frazier happened to be fighting Joe Bugner when we were there. I am the biggest Smokin Joe fan (went and saw him train everyday at Piccadilly Square) the day of the fight I didn't want to miss nothing and I got my Parents to go to Earl's Court (Arena?) AT 1 in the afternoon. The Janitor's haven't even showed up yet, were sitting in the dark in our seats and the next human we saw was 5 hours later (I didn't want to miss anything). 10 hours later the place is packed. The guy sitting right behind us has 20 pounds on Frazier. 2 seconds after the fight started he is yelling "STOP THE BLOODY FIGHT!! STOP THE BLOODY FIGHT!" and Bugner was winning. It was an awesome 2 weeks. Everything was great (except back then they didn't have iced tea and it happened to be abnormally hot). take care

On Rob
Rob is a class act. When our Rams sucked gas a few years ago. We were members on Bill Kunert's (another good guy) Ram board. My Father was in critical condition and Rob emailed me on how's he doing. I don't forget that. I went by my first and middle initials "JC" on Bill's board.

most of us are members of the rampagers, and Bill is on this list as well.
Bill is a blood brother to me, even though we have diferent ideas about the rams, sometimes ;)

by bloodnhallIf Bill Walsh had his way in the 79 draft he would of taken Steve Fuller with his first pick, but KC beat him to it.
So in the third round he took Montana.
Who knows where Montana would of fallen if the 'Genius' had his way.
And would the Niners be the team of the 80's with Fuller instead of Montana at QB?
In the last few years, the Rams have taken three defensive tackles in the first round.
Larry Brooks went in the 14th round.
Brooks happens to be 5 times better than all three put together.
If it wasn't for a Ram scout that went to a game to evaluate a running back the Rams were high on, he wouldn't of seen this defensive player for the other team that was faster than this running back.
So he wrote down his name, Dave Jones.
Some of you might know him a Deacon Jones, the greatest defensive end to ever play in the NFL.
And the Rams took him in the 14th round.
When the Rams drafted Lawrence Phillips, Eddie Kennison and Tony Banks, the media gave the Rams an 'A' grade.
Saying we stole the draft.
When the Rams had 3 first round picks in the 1975 draft and didn't take Anthony Davis of USC, the LA papers slammed the Rams GM, Don Klosterman.
Saying Doug France and Mike Fanning were just OK, But, passing on Anthony Davis for some guy they never heard of playing for a 2nd rate college.
He was talking about Miami and the player was Dennis Harrah.
Here is the tale of two teams.
The Dallas Cowboys and LA Rams.
The Rams struck out with all those picks
(bill hawkins, gaston green, brian smith etc) for Eric Dickerson and the Dallas Cowboy hit HR after HR with their picks for Herschel Walker.
So one team becomes the team of the 90's and the other is swimming with the bengals.
Greatest draft ever. 1975.
Fanning, Harrah, France, Monte Jackson, Rod Perry and Haden.-

QUESTION
The Rams drafted 4 Heisman trophy winners that never played a down for them. Name them-

by mikhal5569I haven't had a ton of time to look into this, but to the best of my knowledge the Supplemental Draft recently happened a week or two ago, correct?
What is the status of the running back everyone seems to want, Harvey Unga? Do the Rams have the first rights to drop a fourth or fifth round pick down for him or is this more of the highest bidder type thing?
Also, how long do the teams have to make their bid for Supplemental Draft players?
All I know is we could really use a back like Unga.-

by Guestalright, so here is everything that you need to know in order to have a succesful draft.
The draft rules that nobody knows about
1. NEVER draft Big name players
2. NEVER draft players that have a first name longer than 8 characters
3. NEVER draft a Notre Dame QB
4. ALWAYS Second guess yourself
5. Make sure that the first player you draft, is from Mount Union university
6. NEVER EVER EVER draft a player if he couldn't even score 20 TD's in college, if he can't do it in college, then how can he do it in the NFL?
7. Players who's names begin with Tim should always be first on your board
8. Always Over reach for a player
9. if Ndamakung Suh was worthy enough to be a #1 overall pick, his name would be, Ndamakung One
10. and the BIGGEST DRAFT RULE that you need to know in order to be succesfull is this.
11. NEVER DRAFT A PLAYER THAT YOU NEED!!!
I hope you all have learned something valuable from this, because I know who I would draft with the first pick...
ARMANTI EDWARDS!!! he is the surest thing since Ryan Leaf!!
thank you ;)-

by viperI mentioned in another thread that the Rams often seem to pick no name players during the draft instead of bigger name players at the various positions. This goes back at least until the GSOT days. For example, we could have selected Golden Tate instead of Donny Avery. Can you name any bigger name players that we passed on that you would have rather we drafted at the time (no 20/20 hindsight picks)? Name the player you would have rather selected and who we picked instead.
