My guess is the fact that one of the needs of the Rams this offseason is LB's.... thus making the fact that they're releasing one a 'surprise'. But really, it's not. Now if the Rams parted ways with Littleton, THAT would be a surprise.

Joyner is a free agent, so no cutting required. In answer to your question about drafting, I think Johnathan Abram from Miss. St. would be the right value at #31. He's been compared to Keanu Neal of the Falcons and is able to pass cover as well as run stop which is my high priority for the Rams in the draft. Plus how can we pass on a guy who has the team name in his name LOL.

    Go Rams!

Okay, makes sense. I'll go with that. Done with my 'somewhat surprise[d]' reaction. (^_^)

No surprise in my opinion. Too many times he was overmatched and missed tackles. I want to see a true inside backer not this converted stuff.

Completely agree with that sentiment. I have been thinking that the Rams were going cut Barron the moment the season ended. Aside from his cap number, the football performance combined with injuries made his place on the roster untenable. I think we got some very good years from Mark and I wish him well. He and Joyner may find their way to the Jets where Gregg Williams may be reuniting the "old gang".

Wade may be looking to make some wholesale changes to the LB corps as that was a weak spot for us throughout the season. I personally hope we find some run stuffing type LB's.

    Go Rams!

Definitely not a surprise to me. Clearly, they weren't able to trade him with the weight of $9.6M remaining on his contract for the upcoming season either.

    Wish him well though.

Barron just didn't effectively get the job done, has had recent injury issues, and his release will save the Rams $6.33 million this season. No surprise here.

Hmm, somewhat of a surprise as Schefter said. "A little 'somewhat'"...

    Thanks MB.

He was on the block, we know that. I am wondering how close we came. Seems like the pickup of Trautwein could have been in anticipation of Barron being gone.

Regardless, good developmental OT for the future, a future that Barron most likely won't be in.

    Rams | Barron Negotiations Underway
    Sat, 9 Jul 2005 21:42:12 -0700

Thomas Grant Jr., of the Times and Democrat, reports the St. Louis Rams have started negotiations with agent Roosevelt Barnes of Maximum Sports Management about a contract for Rams' rookie OT Alex Barron. The deal is expected to be a lucrative contract for the second offensive lineman taken in this year's NFL draft. For now, Barron's focus is mastering the Rams' blocking schemes while he waits for a deal to get done.

Rams | Barron Trying to Adjust to the NFL
    Sat, 9 Jul 2005 21:30:20 -0700

Thomas Grant Jr., of the Times and Democrat, reports St. Louis Rams rookie OT Alex Barron is trying to adjust to his role as an NFL player. The players are much quicker, stronger and, in some cases, craftier than ever and the coaches see things through a "win now" mentality. "It's been like going back to school," said Barron in a telephone interview with Grant prior to a Friday, July 8, workout. "All the players are reading and studying, but on a whole different level and there's a little bit more urgency involved." Barron has struggled with his new position, right tackle. He was named the starter earlier in the offseason by Rams' head coach Mike Martz, but at a recent minicamp Barron was demoted to No. 2. "I'm a rookie like all the other rookies," Barron said. "The fact I had to change positions had some weight on it. It's just part of the transition that I've got to try to make and then I'll be ready to see what's going on." Making the mental adjustment to the NFL has been just as challenging for Barron as the physical side.

    Something interesting on Barron
    by 39thebeast
this was posted by galaxy on the **edited** on another message board.

He has some good points on Barron and goes with the numbers. He also has some very confusing stuff that I had no clue what he was talking about. In all it makes allot of sense....
